DESCRIPTION:This new temporary exhibition within EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum asks how the millions of Irish people in England have fared over the past 200 years. Based on landmark economic history research using new big data analysis\, it tracks the wealth\, health\, and living standards of Irish migrants and families of Irish descent\, showing that the Irish were substantially poorer than their English neighbours for generations. \nNo Irish Need Apply? highlights the extraordinary contribution Irish women and men have made to the English economy and wider society through their hard work\, vibrant culture\, and political activism. The exhibition also includes the words and music of Irish migrants in England captured in Philip Donnellan’s 1965 film “The Irishmen”\, in collaboration with the Irish Film Institute. \nThe exhibition has been developed by the Department of Economic History at the London School of Economics & Political Science from research by Professor Neil Cummins and Professor Cormac Ó Gráda (UCD). It has been curated by Dr Christoper Kissane\, Engagement & Impact Lead\, LSE Dept of Economic History.

DESCRIPTION:Chart topping folk group The Longest Johns are known the world over for their rollicking harmonies and raucous energy that are blowing new wind into the sails of traditional sea shanties and work songs. Formed in 2012 across a kitchen table in their native Bristol\, they bonded over a passion for traditional maritime folk music\, interwoven with a wry humour\, a taste for all things digital. and a flair for their own songwriting – ancient meets modern down by the docks.The Longest Johns have now announced a headline Academy\, Dublin show for Friday\, 8th May 2026. \nTickets from €29.00 (inc booking fee & venue facility fee) from Ticketmaster.ie on. Bookings subject to 12.5% service charge per ticket (max €10.50) \nConstant gigging over land and sea\, coupled with a rare command of social media and a string of quality releases saw them build a devoted fanbase at home and abroad. Their breakout moment came in 2021\, when their rendition of ‘Wellerman’ went viral on TikTok\, sparking the ‘Shanty Tok’ craze that became a global resurgence in sea shanty music and saw the band sign to Decca Records. \nThis year\, they have released their tenth album to round up the Pieces of Eight project – an EP a month for eight months culminating in the 24-track compilation. In the next 12 months they’ll continue to take folk music back to its roots by many routes\, playing more than 100 shows across the UK\, Europe\, North America and Australia. \nTheir love of heritage and tradition runs deep – in 2024 they released the fan-funded album Voyage with its companion book of original short stories\, artwork and lyrics. However\, as digital natives and avid gamers\, The Longest Johns were overjoyed to play at the opening of the 2025 Pokémon Europe International Championships where they debuted a new track\, Face the World\, written especially for the event. \nWith a strong digital presence boasting over 500\,000 YouTube subscribers and nearly 700\,000 monthly Spotify listeners\, they’ve also released a 20-track album of sea shanties digitally retooled in Chiptune\, taken part in the annual Jingle Jam hosted by gaming stream The Yogscast\, and share their own video games on YouTube and Twitch @LongestJohnsGaming. \nThe band have toured extensively across the UK\, North America\, and Europe\, as well as Australia and New Zealand. SUMMARY:Formal and Wild Landscapes by Fergus Martin
DESCRIPTION:Curated by Dr. Margarita Cappock \nAbout the exhibition\n‘Formal and Wild  Landscapes’ by Fergus Martin can be described as an exhibition of illusions and dreams.  It incorporates sculpture\, animation\, photographic prints and sound projections that connect at an emotional and subliminal level. \nEvery aspect of the exhibition\, from its commencement in the cube space to the culmination in the upper gallery\, provides the viewer with an invisible kinetic experience as the art works ‘ping’ against each other and relate sequentially to what the viewer will encounter next.   The animation has as its starting point an idea the artist had for a sculpture in a landscape and has taken on another life in the virtual world – a fantastical version of a pastoral scene. \nMartin notes\, ‘It was sparked by my always seeing hay bales from trains. They always seem mysterious to me scattered over the landscape and make me think of how leprechauns fooled people who wanted their gold by placing rocks or hawthorn trees everywhere.  These hay bales appear to have landed from space and sit there day and night in every season.’ Some of the works in this exhibition have featured in a recent exhibition at the magnificent early eighteenth-century Palazzo Birago in Turin in 2025.    Visitors now can view these works from an entirely different perspective here in the contemporary setting of the Lab gallery in Dublin. \nAbout the artist\nFergus Martin is an Irish painter\, sculptor and photographer\, known for his post-minimlaist aesthetic.  His most recent solo exhibitions were Space – New Prints – at Green On Red Gallery \, Dublin and Formal and Wild  – Landscapes at Palazzo Birago\, Turin\, Italy\, in Dublin.  Also in 2025\, he took part in the group exhibitions CAIM at Slane Castle\, curated by Jenn Ellis and Matilda Liu\, and Factory Made at Green On Red Gallery\, Dublin. \nIn 2020 Martin’s sculpture\, Oak\, was installed at the International Criminal Court in The Hague\, a gift from the Irish Government to the court; a new permanent sculpture\, Barrel was installed in the grounds of the Irish Museum of Modern Art\, Dublin.  Also in 2020\, his large-scale photograph\,Chair\, was purchased by the National Gallery of Ireland. \nMartin is a member of Aosdana and is represented by Green On Red Gallery\, Dublin. \n

SUMMARY:William Blake: The age of Romantic Fantasy | Dublin by Dusk
DESCRIPTION:William Blake\, a visionary artist and poet\, was a defining force in Romanticism. His imaginative and unconventional works continue to inspire today. This exhibition\, curated by Tate in partnership with the National Gallery of Ireland\, presents a selection of Blake’s most iconic works of art\, alongside paintings and drawings by his contemporaries. \nBlake’s world was one of fantasy\, imagination\, and the ancient past\, filled with fantastical creatures and visions of the underworld\, expressed through a wide variety of media. By placing him in context – among the artists he admired and those he inspired – the exhibition offers insight into an era of extraordinary originality and innovation in late-eighteenth and early nineteenth-century art. Featuring over 100 works\, including by James Barry (1741–1806)\, Henry Fuseli (1741–1825)\, John Hamilton Mortimer (1740–1779)\, Thomas Rowlandson (1757–1827)\, and J.M.W. Turner (1775–1851)\, the show explores how artists responded to a time of revolution and transformation\, pushing the boundaries of their art into new imaginative territories. \nOrganised in collaboration with Tate. \nCurated by Anne Hodge\, Curator of Prints and Drawings at the National Gallery of Ireland and Alice Insley\, Curator of British Art c. 1730 – 1850 at Tate. \nThis exhibition is supported by The William Blake Giving Circle.  \nThe Gallery would like to thank the Department of Culture\, Communications and Sport for their ongoing support.

DESCRIPTION:Cait is an artist newly returned to Dublin\, determined to get her life back on track and prove to her mother that she’s not a total fuck-up.  Eoin\, a proud Kerryman\, is working in finance for his sins. He has very different plans- graft hard\, retire early\, and go home to run his parents’ farm in South Kerry. \nWhen they meet\, Cait knows one thing: Eoin is absolutely not her type. He’s obsessed with GAA (and his mother) and wouldn’t know an easel from his elbow. Meanwhile Eoin can’t decide if Cait is the woman of his dreams or an agent of chaos with notions. \nBut despite themselves\, they are pulled into a can’t eat\, can’t sleep\,  rollercoaster romance. The Kerryman is a story of two clashing hearts and minds. We don’t get to choose who we fall for – but it’s the choices we make afterwards that can turn our entire world upside down. \nA new play by Eva O’Connor for the Glass Mask Theatre Stage.

DESCRIPTION:ANU Productions and The National Archives of Ireland are proud to announce The Good Luck Club\, a new off site theatre production marking the centenary of Ireland’s 1926 Census. Commissioned as part of the National Archives’ year-long commemorative programme to mark the release of the 1926 Census records\, this intimate and immersive experience will be staged within the historic National Archives building on Bishop Street from 27th May 2026 to 14th June 2026 – the first time a theatrical production has ever been mounted in the historical building. \nWritten and directed by Louise Lowe\, with design and scenography by Owen Boss\, The Good Luck Club is a commission by the National Archives and is created specifically for the landmark institution. The production invites audiences to step inside the living fabric of Ireland’s past\, moving through the building in small groups\, exploring rarely accessed spaces and encountering a series of vivid\, human stories drawn from archival records. Blending performance\, participation and historical testimony\, the production illuminates the social landscape of Ireland in 1926 – a nation finding its footing in the early years of independence. \nThe production features an ensemble cast including Ghaliah Conroy\, John Cronin\, Libby Conway Dunne\, Maeve Fitzgerald\, Oliver Flitcroft\, Jack Hassett\, Pattie Maguire\, Ciara Molloy and Jamie O’Neill. \nTaking direct inspiration from the Irish Hospitals’ Sweepstake – the hugely popular lottery initiative that captured the public’s imagination in the early 20th century – The Good Luck Club examines themes of chance\, aspiration and survival\, stepping inside the gilded machinery of the infamous Sweepstakes\, where the desperate hope meets the calculations of the new post war Ireland. Through personal stories unearthed from the census and historical records\, the production will meaningfully excavate early 20th Century Ireland and how a country was built on a ticket and a prayer.

His studio itself reflects this split: upstairs is used for filming\, editing\, teaching and reading\, while downstairs is for painting and drawing – Byrne describes his process as a movement between states of mind. After sustained periods of research or concentration\, he returns to drawing with urgency\, driven to capture the immediacy of subjects before they shift or disappear.

DESCRIPTION:LA-based duo LANY have announced their Soft World tour will land in Dublin at 3Olympia Theatre on Thursday 4th June 2026. \n\n\nPaul Klein (lead-singer & songwriter) had just finished a workout at his local gym last summer when his and LANY’s world was (for a brief moment\, quite literally) flipped upside down. Only a couple miles from where he lives in Hollywood\, he hopped on his vespa scooter to head home and a minute later was crossing an intersection when a car appeared from nowhere. He squeezed the brakes\, braced for impact and at the last second “let go”. He woke up in an ambulance. \n“The first thought I had when I woke up was that God loves me. That I’m still here for a reason and I have a purpose.” He doesn’t know how much time passed on the pavement. He doesn’t know who called the ambulance. He doesn’t know how long it took them to arrive. He does know how fortunate he is to be alive. “I’m so grateful to be alive\, but I hope there are some parts of me that died on the road that day\,” he says. “I was holding onto some things that I didn’t need to be. Resentment. Unforgiveness. I was becoming pretty bitter and callous — hard of heart.” \nIt’s poetic then that the band’s new album\, titled “Soft”\, addresses his attempts to fight against that internal hardness — to stay soft of the inside\, while simultaneously fighting to rehabilitate an even stronger\, harder exterior to protect that same vulnerability and softness within. \nThe LA-based duo (comprised of Klein and his bandmate/ best friend Jake Goss) were less than two weeks away from the Australian leg of their “a beautiful blur” world tour when the accident happened. Having already finished the European\, North American and Latin American legs\, the band were spending the first weeks of summer at home\, recharging before getting back on the road. Nobody could’ve imagined how quickly everything would change. What is perhaps more conceivable is how catalyzing a moments like this would be for Klein\, both personally and creatively. Thematically and visually “Soft” exists in tension — an intentional contrast of the hard and soft. Tangible\, literal\, physical hardness juxtaposed with metaphorical\, relational (and\, at times too\, physical) softness. The cover itself depicts the perfect visual of that dichotomy: a lamb\, representative of one’s own softness\, in the wounded and bandaged arms of the one that has fought for and protected it. “It’s so easy to let the challenges of the world harden you\,” Klein says. “The hardest thing to do is to fight against it — to stay soft. To protect your softness and the things that you love.” \nSonically\, the album explores these same tensions — much of the softness and vulnerability of lyric that has defined LANY’s acclaimed career\, now with a harder\, braver edge to the production. Where familiar listeners might’ve expected to encounter some more predictable or safer choices\, LANY has seriously matured and evolved. The soft piano ballads west-coast-indie guitars and bedroom pop sonics that LANY helped create and popularize aren’t entirely abandoned\, but their sound and Klein’s writing has expanded. The list of brave choices on “Soft” begins with Klein’s willingness to start writing mere weeks after waking up in the ambulance. It continues with the band’s decision to produce the album entirely with Tommy King\, who has a more abstract\, indie production background / history (Bon Iver\, Dijon\, Vampire Weekend\, Haim) and ends with a sonic-identity that is simultaneously incredibly fresh and peculiarly familiar (another dichotomy that defines the record and has come to define the band). \nNowhere is this seen more than lead-single “Know You Naked”. Lyrically a vulnerable love-letter\, highlighted by Klein’s vocal range and thoughtful extra touches; the tension and contrast is found in an almost-industrial\, dissonant guitar-intro (that continues to persist below the surface)\, harsh synth stabs\, punchy snare hits and momentary “glitchy” static-like sounds. There’s also a particular moment on the album’s title track and opener “Soft” that sets the scene and prepares the audience for what’s ahead. It’s only one and a half minutes into the album\, but is the first time the initial “softness” of the record is broken and it kickstarts the record into life — a daring\, crystalizing early highlight. \nIn more than a few of the tracks\, the record could more aptly even be described as R&B. Maybe that’s where some of the familiarity stems from… The band’s origins and early works felt more “80s”\, but were always very R&B-adjacent. The song “Good Parts” feels like it drew inspiration from the “late-90’s / Y2K” in that way — you can just imagine a big-budget music video played 40x a day\, every day\, on MTV to accompany such an enormous track. This feeling is identified most strongly in the unstoppable album closer “Last Forever” though — an astonishingly raw and honest\, soul-bearing ballad that existing fans and new listeners will be desperate to have on loop (or\, dare-say\, to last forever). While it pushes sonic and thematic boundaries\, it still feels a lot like LANY\, treading that tightrope of tension the band thrive on. \nWith “Soft” dropping this Fall\, the band have spent the latter parts of 2024 and early 2025 relentlessly working on the record\, but have found time outside of the studio too. Earlier this year they played two special nights with The National Symphony Orchestra at The Kennedy Center in DC before headlining Seoul Jazz Festival in Korea in May. LANY have always brought so much of the energy from their live shows to their recorded works and it’s easy to see that influence on “Soft”. While the new record was incubated in the immediate aftermath of the accident — writing and production beginning within just a couple of weeks — the band were amazingly back on stage in Europe to finish their world tour just two months after the crash\, albeit with Klein on a crutch. \nThat tour canvased the globe; highlights of the 80+ show / 300\,000+ ticket run including a first-ever sold out stadium in Manila\, a second time headlining The Forum locally in LA\, and festival headline slots at the iconic Summer Sonic Festivals in Tokyo and Osaka. Nominated for “Best Pop Tour” by Pollstar\, the band’s energetic\, entrancing\, and ever-evolving live show continues to captivate fans on multiple continents.
