SUMMARY:William Blake: The age of Romantic Fantasy | Dublin by Dusk
DESCRIPTION:William Blake\, a visionary artist and poet\, was a defining force in Romanticism. His imaginative and unconventional works continue to inspire today. This exhibition\, curated by Tate in partnership with the National Gallery of Ireland\, presents a selection of Blake’s most iconic works of art\, alongside paintings and drawings by his contemporaries. \nBlake’s world was one of fantasy\, imagination\, and the ancient past\, filled with fantastical creatures and visions of the underworld\, expressed through a wide variety of media. By placing him in context – among the artists he admired and those he inspired – the exhibition offers insight into an era of extraordinary originality and innovation in late-eighteenth and early nineteenth-century art. Featuring over 100 works\, including by James Barry (1741–1806)\, Henry Fuseli (1741–1825)\, John Hamilton Mortimer (1740–1779)\, Thomas Rowlandson (1757–1827)\, and J.M.W. Turner (1775–1851)\, the show explores how artists responded to a time of revolution and transformation\, pushing the boundaries of their art into new imaginative territories. \nOrganised in collaboration with Tate. \nCurated by Anne Hodge\, Curator of Prints and Drawings at the National Gallery of Ireland and Alice Insley\, Curator of British Art c. 1730 – 1850 at Tate. \nThis exhibition is supported by The William Blake Giving Circle.  \nThe Gallery would like to thank the Department of Culture\, Communications and Sport for their ongoing support.

SUMMARY:The Whiteheaded Boy
DESCRIPTION:“ – Glory be to God! Is it notions she has? – Aye\, notions. But they’re notions that cost me money!” \n\n\nThe table is set for Denis\, arriving home from Dublin where he’s studying Medicine at Trinity College – a source of enormous pride for his besotted mother and of great resentment to his five other siblings. \nBut when word comes that he may have failed his exams again\, the final straw breaks. Threats of deportation\, lawsuits\, bribes and counter-bribes escalate\, as the family twist the fate of their whiteheaded boy to suit themselves. Never mind about the girls. \nA smash hit when it premiered at the Abbey Theatre 110 years ago\, Lennox Robinson’s The Whiteheaded Boy is a raucous\, high-stakes tug-of-war between a generation who will do anything to keep their standing in the town and the young\, who just want to be free to do what they want to do. \nAward-winning director Annie Ryan re-imagines this bawdy and bold Irish classic with a contemporary eye and a sharp feminist wink to the past. Notions abound!

SUMMARY:The Magic Glasses | Dublin By Dusk
DESCRIPTION:The year is 1913\, but like a contemporary phone-addicted teenager\, Jaymoney Shanahan spends his days up in the loft staring into his magic glasses\, hearing strange music and seeing incredible visions. \nHis distraught parents finally call in the fabled Morgan Quille\, hoping he can cure this incurable of his wicked ways. Is Quille a genuine faith healer or a fake of a quack doctor? What will happen when a violent exorcism is attempted in this Kerry country kitchen? \nWith riotous humour\, language of astonishing richness\, and the highest of hi-jinx\, The Magic Glasses is a mini-masterpiece by this under-celebrated playwright\, a Kerry magician of singular genius\, George Fitzmaurice. \nDon’t miss the rare chance to see this glorious gem of a play.

SUMMARY:Comhghall Casey
DESCRIPTION:Solomon Fine Art is delighted to host an exhibition of new paintings by award-winning artist Comhghall Casey. In this much anticipated solo exhibition\, his first in four years\, Casey presents a new body of masterful studies in oil which observe in detail the extraordinary qualities of ordinary items. \n  \nCasey’s intimate and often nostalgic still-lives celebrate objects from everyday life\, ranging from blocks of cheese to beach toys which are singled out and meticulously observed. His compositions are universally simple\, where the object is placed centrally against a neutral background\, amplifying it’s presence and highlighting the artist’s skill and spectacular attention to detail. \n  \nBorn in 1976 Casey grew up in Omagh\, Co Tyrone before moving to Belfast to study fine art at the University of Ulster. In 2000 he moved to Dublin where he has since been living and working. \n  \nCasey has twice appeared on Sky television’s Portrait Artist of the Year competition. His self-portraits were shortlisted for the esteemed BP Portrait Awards in the UK in 2002\, 2013 and 2015 and subsequently hung in the National Portrait Gallery\, London\, the National Scottish Portrait Gallery\, Edinburgh and the Ulster Museum\, Belfast. His portraits have also been shortlisted for the Zurich (formerly Hennessy) Portrait Awards at the National Gallery of Ireland in 2014\, 2017\, 2019\, 2020 & 2023. SUMMARY:Common Ground @ EPIC
DESCRIPTION:Common Ground: Ireland and the EU is a new multimedia exhibition exploring how Ireland’s membership of the European Union has shaped the country socially\, culturally and economically over the past few decades. The exhibition also looks at the impact Ireland has had across Europe\, telling stories of migration\, opportunity\, equality\, education and cultural exchange through immersive displays and personal stories. \n  \n\n\nIreland joined the European Economic Community (EEC) – as the EU was then known – on January 1\, 1973\, after a referendum endorsed by 83% of voters. It was then among the poorest and most underdeveloped countries in western Europe\, with a population just over half of its current size. \nIreland’s accession proved to be the most consequential economic milestone in the half century since Irish independence\, but it also set in motion far-reaching social and cultural change. EU legislation has driven improvements in workers’ rights\, for example\, and set binding targets for climate action. Irish people have studied and built new lives across Europe\, while many Europeans have since made their homes here in Ireland. \nAs Ireland assumes the EU presidency in 2026\, this new multimedia exhibition explores how a small island nation has extended its influence across Europe\, and how Europe\, in turn\, has profoundly shaped modern Ireland. \nFeatured Stories:\nEqual Pay \nStudying Abroad \nAn Ghaeilge \nEntry to this exhibition is included in general admission tickets.
