DESCRIPTION:Common Ground: Ireland and the EU is a new multimedia exhibition exploring how Ireland’s membership of the European Union has shaped the country socially\, culturally and economically over the past few decades. The exhibition also looks at the impact Ireland has had across Europe\, telling stories of migration\, opportunity\, equality\, education and cultural exchange through immersive displays and personal stories. \n  \n\n\nIreland joined the European Economic Community (EEC) – as the EU was then known – on January 1\, 1973\, after a referendum endorsed by 83% of voters. It was then among the poorest and most underdeveloped countries in western Europe\, with a population just over half of its current size. \nIreland’s accession proved to be the most consequential economic milestone in the half century since Irish independence\, but it also set in motion far-reaching social and cultural change. EU legislation has driven improvements in workers’ rights\, for example\, and set binding targets for climate action. Irish people have studied and built new lives across Europe\, while many Europeans have since made their homes here in Ireland. \nAs Ireland assumes the EU presidency in 2026\, this new multimedia exhibition explores how a small island nation has extended its influence across Europe\, and how Europe\, in turn\, has profoundly shaped modern Ireland. \nFeatured Stories:\nEqual Pay \nStudying Abroad \nAn Ghaeilge \nEntry to this exhibition is included in general admission tickets.

She rose to critical acclaim from her debut album First Prize Bravery\, which was an evocative depiction of young adulthood\, a time during which she ventured from home in Dublin to New York\, Los Angeles and back again. Her follow up album Smiling Like an Idiot cemented her status as one of Ireland’s most revered songwriters and saw her tour North America\, Europe and Australia\, both as a headliner and as a special guest for artists such as Snow Patrol\, Mitski and Dermot Kennedy. \nShe returns this September 2026 with her third album\, Draw The Outline. Made after relocating to West Kerry\, it’s her most intimate and reflective record to date – trading synth-led textures for acoustic guitar\, woodwinds\, saxophone\, Hammond organ and piano\, and turning her gaze inward. \nBrigid Mae Power (27th August)\n \nBrigid Mae Power’s music never quite settles on solid ground. The Irish singer-songwriter sits between past and present\, between traditional and modern forms\, between the heaven in her voice and the earthbound epiphanies of her words. There’s something distinctively Irish in her sound\, delivered with a freshness and emotional rawness that feels entirely her own. \nShe’s released three albums to date\, including her acclaimed 2022 record Head Above the Water\, which was Rough Trade’s Album of the Month and earned praise from Pitchfork\, Mojo\, Uncut\, The Guardian and The Irish Times. Her albums blend traditional folk and country into something that feels both personal and wide-reaching. \nHer most recent record\, Songs for You\, is a heartfelt collection of covers dedicated to her father\, reworking songs by Roy Orbison\, Tom Verlaine\, Neil Young and Cass McCombs into something minimal\, intimate and entirely her own. \nEfé (24th September)\n \nEFÉ is an Irish artist hailing from Dublin. EFÉ released her debut EP What Should We Do This Summer in October 2020 which was recorded in her bedroom with the help of her friends. Her music is a sunny slice of bedroom pop\, evoking images of blue skies on a summer’s day using shimmering synth pads and funky\, modulated guitar tones. EFÉ sets herself apart from other artists with the unique and playful groove that provides the grounding for her DIY style\, and definitely marks her as one to watch from the emerging Irish scene. Her music is effortlessly nostalgic\, pulling on indie-tinged memories of the late 1990s and early 2000s. \nAfter signing to US label Fader; home to artists such as Clairo – she leaned further into her rock influences for her most recent single releases in 2024\, Truth Truth\, 2000Seven and you say that I’m crazy\, lo-fi indie tracks that make space for guitars to soar. The album \nwas written\, arranged\, produced\, and recorded by Sebastian Kinsler\, Lydia Slocum\, and Jake \nKelley across their respective homes in Pittsburgh\, Pennsylvania. \nA spirited investigation into the unnatural space created between human nature and a culture of \nconvenience\, a synthesis of dirt and digital\, bitknot by feeble little horse creates a language \nwherein one can re-imbue a sanctity of interdependence away from consumptive “self- \nsufficiency” and materialism. “The album art is based on the coincidental core memory matrix\, \nwhich was used in old computers to store memory / access information using 0s and 1s. Each \ncore\, or ‘bit\,’ is accessed through the grid of wires\, like a knot that stores secret details and \nmemories.” bitknot asks that we find new modes of being through this grid\, entrusting one \nanother with the collaborative construction of these knots. This negotiation with an ever- \ndeveloping hybrid reality is expertly exemplified in the album’s production – the buoyancy of \nKinsler’s arrangements provide a perfectly balanced surface tension for the weight of Slocum’s \nmeandering introspection as they playfully harmonize against saccharine hooks\, walls of noise\, \na supercharged car battery’s worth of synths and samples dropped in the ocean of their guitar- \ndriven songwriting framework\, and some of Kelley’s most laser-focused drums to date to create \na sonic chimera that is as likely to be found nascently developing in the early aughts as some \nunknown\, chromatic future. \nRhymes written with sidewalk chalk that refuse to be erased in the Anthropocene’s acid rain of \ndestructive relationships\, Herbert Marcuse’s One-Dimensional Man manifest through the spirit \nof a young woman born in the shadow of the Steel City’s industrial ghosts\, a study of the clumsy \nalchemy of IRL and WWW – it is within these rhizomatic contradictions that bitknot proliferates.
