If you can’t make it at 1 pm\, don’t worry\, there will be a second fashion show 4 pm. \nHair Demo – Peter Mark – 1:40 pm\nPeter Mark’s awesome stylists will be hosting a hair styling demo that you won’t want to miss. \nSilverworks workshop – Silver Works – 2:05 pm\nSilver Works will be hosting an unmissable jewellery crafting workshop\, with some of the best jewellery making classes around \, you won’t find a better workshop anywhere. \nLive Music – Ireland’s Eye Group – 2:30 pm & 3:50 pm\nIreland’s Eye Group are a fantastic Irish trad band that will be banging out live tunes throughout the day. \nCooking Demo – Port House – 3 pm\nPort House will be sending out one of their best chefs to put on a cooking demo on how to make delicious Spanish-inspired dishes. \nTattoo Workshop – Wildcat Ink – 3:35 pm\nIf you’re interested in practicing your tattoo work\, or getting into that world\, Wildcat’s tattoo workshop is the perfect activity\, with a fun atmosphere and great community\, it’s sure to be an unmissable time.

Author and illustrator Úna Woods will read from her new children’s book A Blooming Great Day (The O’Brien Press) and lead a drawing workshop. The children will draw scenes from the book and design their own hats! This is a great way for children to be introduced to Joyce and to partake in Dublin’s great literary tradition. \nÚna Woods is a children’s book illustrator and author who lives in Dublin with her husband and two children and their ginger cat. Her previous books include Have You Seen the Dublin Vampire? and A Spooktacular Place to Be\, both published by The O’Brien Press. Úna loves working with bright colours and patterns. DESCRIPTION:The lineup has just been unveiled for this year’s Culture Date with Dublin 8. The annual cultural extravaganza\, celebrating the history\, heritage and contemporary life of Dublin 8\, will take place from May 4th to May 10th.  \nThe programme boasts over 100 specially curated activities\, from walking tours and workshops to concerts\, late-night parties\, theatrical performances\, and much more. This year\, the festival will honour the 300th anniversary of Jonathan Swift’s Gulliver’s Travels with a special series of events. \nThe programme for the festival was officially unveiled at a ceremony in Marsh’s Library and speaking at the launch festival curator Grace McEvoy remarked: \n“It is my honour to launch the programme for this year’s Culture Date with Dublin 8. This year’s theme\, ‘Songlines of the City\,’ reimagines Dublin 8 as a place where the streets\, stories\, and songs reveal the neighborhood’s cultural DNA\, while ‘Gulliver 300’ reimagines Swift’s legacy with bold\, playful events where myth\, literature\, and local stories collide.” \nFlagship Events \nAmong the flagship events\, the Guinness Choir will celebrate its 75th anniversary with a special concert in St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Thursday\, 7th May. The title of the event\, “The City of Our Dreaming\,” comes from a poem commissioned by Paula Meehan to mark the occasion. \nAt the National Stadium on Saturday 9 May\, author and podcaster Donal Fallon hosts In The Ring: Dan Donnelly & Dublin’s Boxing Heroes\, a unique event celebrating the legendary 19th-century bare-knuckle boxer. Blending boxing history with poetry\, music and live performance\, the evening features contributions from Damien Dempsey\, Brian Kerr\, Barry McGovern\, Kelly McLoughlin\, Terry O’Neill\, Niamh Ní Charra and Emmet O’Brien\, followed on Sunday 10 May by a tag-team wrestling and slam poetry event. \nOn Wednesday 6 May\, The First Count: A Night in 1926 takes place at The Fumbally Stables\, hosted by Shite Talk: An Irish History Podcast. This immersive “Reeling in the Years”-style experience brings the first census of the Irish Free State vividly to life through live music\, performance\, food and storytelling in the heart of The Liberties. \nGulliver 300 Celebrations\nThis year marks the 300th anniversary of Gulliver’s Travels\, one of the most influential works of satire in literary history\, written in Dublin by Jonathan Swift. Culture Date with Dublin 8 celebrates this landmark with a series of events exploring Swift’s life\, legacy and enduring relevance. \nHighlights include a keynote lecture by Swift scholar Dr Brendan Twomey at St Patrick’s University Hospital\, examining the themes and cultural impact of Gulliver’s Travels\, followed by a guided walk and rare access to the historic Board Room\, where guests can view a selection of Swift artefacts including his writing desk and death mask. Swift’s Dublin\, a specially curated walking tour\, will trace the writer’s connections to the city\, from St Patrick’s Cathedral to the streets and spaces that shaped his work. \nAcross the district\, St Patrick’s Cathedral will open the Deanery\, where Swift once lived\, for special tours\, while Marsh’s Library will present an exhibition of original copies of Gulliver’s Travels. A range of additional activities will bring the story to life for all ages\, including Swift-themed walking tours\, a hands-on Gulliver’s Swap workshop creating DIY luggage from reclaimed textiles\, a young explorers adventure tour through Dublin 8’s green spaces\, and a Lilliputian Morning Rave featuring DJ Billy Scurry. A special Gulliver 300 collectible postcard\, illustrated by John Rooney\, will also be available during the festival. \nMusic \nOver the course of the festival\, churches\, distilleries and pubs across Dublin 8 will come alive with music\, transforming the neighbourhood into a vibrant\, multi-venue stage. \nThe Church of St Catherine & St James in Donore is set to become a uniquely atmospheric setting for a series of standout performances\, with Tom Dunne\, Fiachna O’Braonáin and Alan Connor performing on Wednesday 6 May\, followed by Phelim Drew bringing his Remembering Ronnie show to the space on Thursday 7 May. On Friday 8 May\, Camille O’Sullivan performs in the stunning surroundings of Christ Church Cathedral. \nElsewhere\, Sofar Sounds Dublin hosts an intimate night at Teeling Whiskey Distillery\, while a dynamic collaboration with BIMM Dublinwill see emerging artists take over venues across the district\, spotlighting the next generation of talent rooted in the area. An Góilín Traditional Singers bring the songs of Dublin 8 to life through a series of outdoor performances woven into a unique walking trail across the neighbourhood\, while St. George’s Brass Band will perform a lively outdoor concert in St Audoen’s Park. \nAlso on the programme\, the Westland Trio Baroque Ensemble presents Between Renaissance and Baroque at St Audoen’s Church\, an evocative concert journeying through medieval to Renaissance music from Ireland and England\, exploring the rich musical heritage of these islands in one of Dublin’s most historic settings. Raidió Rí-Rá presents AIRNEÁN\, an evening of music as Gaeilge bringing together new songwriters and traditional musicians\, offering a platform for some of the most exciting voices in contemporary Irish-language music. \nTalks & Tours \nDiscover Dublin 8 through a series of distinctive tours and talks that reveal the area’s hidden histories and lesser-told stories. Highlights include a special Alternative Tour of Kilmainham Gaol\, offering rare access to parts of the prison not usually open to the public\, and The Lost Prisons of Dublin 8\, a walking tour uncovering the sites of long-forgotten jails across the city. Dublin Decoded leads a Hidden Portobello tour exploring the area’s rich past as “Little Jerusalem” and its connections to literature\, film and migration\, while The National Archives of Ireland presents 1926 Census clinics\, giving audiences the chance to explore this landmark moment in Irish history with expert guidance. \nHistorian Liz Gillis presents a powerful talk at Richmond Barracks on the four Dublin 8 men executed following the 1916 Rising\, while a live edition of the Three Castles Burning podcast with Donal Fallon takes place at The Lord Edward. \nAdditional highlights include a lecture with David Caron at National College of Art and Design exploring the area’s stained glass heritage\, guided tours of Bully’s Acre Cemetery\, and a fascinating OPW talk on the medieval belltower of St Audoen’s Church. At Farmleigh\, visitors can explore both the poetic landscape of the estate through a Seamus Heaney-inspired walking tour and the social legacy of the Guinness Brewery through a talk on its pioneering approach to worker welfare\, amongst many others. \nFringe & Community \nAlongside the main programme\, a vibrant strand of fringe and community-led events brings together grassroots creativity\, local voices and shared experiences across Dublin 8. \nFrom exhibitions and installations to performances\, workshops and gatherings\, the programme reflects the energy of the area at street level. Highlights include a screening of Chats in the Flats at Donore Credit Union\, capturing working-class voices from the community\, alongside exhibitions by Liberties-based artists Duc Van Pham and Valerie Gannon\, offering intimate portraits of people and everyday life in the area. At Tailors’ Hall\, Throwing Shapes Artist in Residence Camilla Hanney presents her ceramic installation A Liberties Feast\, a striking and immersive work rooted in local tradition. \nCreative activity unfolds across the neighbourhood\, with a Dublin 8 art party hosted by Drink and Draw with Alternative Dublin at Drop Dead Twice\, socially engaged projects by NCAD students at Studio 8 in the Irish Museum of Modern Art\, and an exhibition trail by artists Ishmael Claxton\, Jye O’Sullivan and María Baez embedded in local businesses. The Liberties Weavers present a pop-up textile museum at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral\, continuing the area’s rich craft heritage. \nParticipation and connection are central throughout\, from LEGROOM Collective’s immersive theatre and DJ night All My Friends Are in Australia to the Rialto Community Arts Festival launch and open mic\, celebrating emerging voices. Audiences are also invited into La Catedral Studios for a special open studio evening\, while hands-on workshops like Branch Hair Studio’s ‘Studio Parents’ Hair School SOS’ offer practical\, social experiences. \nCommunity-led storytelling and heritage remain at the core of this strand. 1\,000 Waves: Hands of the City\, an interactive art ritual by Unity in the Community\, invites participants to explore belonging through shared stories and collective expression\, while projects from The Liberties Community Project and The Robert Emmet History Group\, and The Tenters Celebrated Heritage Group\, highlight the depth of local knowledge and lived experience. Dublin City Council Culture Company opens up Kilmainham Mill through its Culture Club series\, and events such as The Story of Inchicore and Kilmainham in Seven Landmarks and a creative celebration of the River Camac by Friends of the Camac further connect people to place\, memory and identity. \nTogether\, these events reflect the strength\, creativity and generosity of Dublin 8’s communities\, whose voices continue to shape and sustain the cultural life of the area. \nThe Culture Date with Dublin 8 Festival will take place from Monday 4th May – Sunday 10th May. DESCRIPTION:Dublin City Council Sensoria\, the award-winning neurodivergent friendly festival for all\, returns to Merrion Square Park on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 April\, bringing a vibrant\, inclusive\, fun and free cultural experience to the heart of Dublin city.  \nNow in its third year\, Dublin City Council Sensoria 2026 builds on the success of previous editions with an enhanced\, carefully curated programme of live performances\, workshops\, and sensory experiences. The festival is a free\, ticketed event with access structured across three relaxed two-hour sessions daily to ensure a comfortable\, non-crowded environment for all attendees. The final session each day will feature a slightly older teen and young adult-focused programme\, expanding the festival’s reach while remaining fully inclusive and accessible to all ages. \nWelcoming the return of the festival\, Lord Mayor of Dublin\, Councillor Ray McAdam said “Dublin City Council Sensoria is a powerful expression of my mayoral theme of Celebrating Dublin because it speaks to the kind of city we are striving to build: open\, welcoming\, creative and inclusive. It is Dublin at its very best\, creating a space where neurodivergent children\, young people\, adults and families can come together to experience culture\, connection and joy in an environment shaped by care\, understanding and accessibility. Dublin City Council Sensoria reminds us that a truly great city is one where everyone feels seen\, supported and able to find their own rhythm.” \nThe festival marks the beginning of a wider programme of Dublin City Council events running throughout the summer\, creating a rich season of dynamic\, vibrant\, accessible and inclusive shared cultural experiences for the enjoyment of citizens and visitors alike. \nThis year introduces a five-zone layout\, improving flow\, accessibility and ease of navigation\, while offering a diverse mix of activity levels – from lively performances to restorative spaces\, ensuring something for everyone at their own pace. Come find your own rhythm! \nA wonderful Main Stage awaits\, featuring music\, dance\, magic and performance across both days\, including Patrick Stefan\, award-winning Irish-Dutch folk artist; Aengus Devine\, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist; Moss Russell’s Stimtastic Celebration; Joe the Magician\, presenter of RTE’s abraKIDabra and Dizzy Deliveries; Magic Marta with her interactive magic\, giggles and wonder and Meabh Conneely\, trailblazing Irish dancer\, the very first Riverdance summer school student with vision impairment. \nTake part in the fabulous Interactive Experiences and Play\, from Aerial Circus and cabaret performances to The Big Dig hands-on workshop for budding archeologists\, and kazoo music regulation sessions. Pop into the low-pressure LEGO play tent and enjoy a host of creative play spaces for all. Check out the Topic Tent\, share the things that interest you with like-minded people. Join in Workshops and Creative Fun with art and messy play\, t-shirt painting\, aromatherapy\, bread making\, emotional storytelling and life drawing. The Dublin City Libraries’ Bus will be there – packed full of stories in various accessible reading materials. \nGet your chill on in the Sensory and Wellbeing Spaces\, with dedicated sensory tents and gardens\, soft play and regulation areas\, the giant interactive Touch Totem and plenty of low-stimulation wellbeing zones. Shake it out with Movement and Participation featuring Yoga sessions\, the Danspire Silent Disco\, as well as plenty of interactive play and target games. The Movement and Participation area will also be supported by Dublin City Sport & Wellbeing Partnership Inclusion Officers\, Tess Sutton and Mark Hughes\, who will be facilitating a range of inclusive\, easy-to-join activities. They will also be available for a friendly chat with families who would like general information on local opportunities and supports. \nDublin City Council Sensoria continues to prioritise accessibility through structured zones with varied activity levels\, sensory supports including ear defenders and fidget tools\, clear wayfinding and seating areas and flexible and self-paced participation opportunities. Each element is designed to create a safe\, welcoming and adaptable environment\, supporting individuals to engage in ways that suit their needs. \nProduced by Dublin City Council in consultation with AsIAm\, ADHD Ireland and Dyslexia Ireland\, Dublin City Council Sensoria is developed through ongoing collaboration to ensure best-in-class accessibility and inclusion. The festival was recently recognised at the LAMA All-Ireland Community & Council Awards\, where it received Best Irish Festival\, highlighting its innovative approach to culture\, creativity and community engagement. \nResponding to the announcement Adam Harris\, CEO of AsIAm\, Ireland’s Autism Charity said “We are delighted to see the return of Sensoria to Dublin’s Merrion Square. Children’s Lunar New Year Craft Workshop\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us for our Children’s Lunar New Year Craft Workshop taking place in Central Library on Monday 16th of February from 3pm – 3.45pm \nSuitable for ages 5+.  Spaces are limited so booking is essential \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n2. Lunar New Year Talk and Artist Panel – Auspicious Eight\nThursday\, 19 February @ 6:00-7:00pm\nBooking is not required.\nThis Lunar New Year event invites audiences to learn about the Auspicious Eight Exhibition through a curator-led introduction and a series of short artist talks. Curator Jinny Ly will begin by sharing the background of Auspicious Eight\, her curatorial practice and her multi-layered approach to creating a community within the arts. Each artist will give a 10-minute slideshow presentation introducing their work\, ideas and creative journey followed by a Q&A session.

SUMMARY:Spirit of the Horse: Family Drop in New Year Creativity Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the Year of the Horse with artist Chun Zhu Wang\, and a creative exploration of shape\, movement\, and imagination. Children will learn how the horse symbolises strength\, energy\, and good fortune in Chinese culture\, and transform these ideas into playful handcrafted artworks — a gentle and inspiring way for families to welcome the new year together. \nFor the activity\, children will use card to create abstract horse-themed artworks inspired by Picasso’s cubist shapes. The workshop will use simple materials including scissors\, colourful card\, yarn or string\, and glue sticks. \nThis event is drop in. All welcome to stay for as long or as little as you wish. Languages spoken\, English\, Mandarin and Irish.. \n  \n\n\n活动简介： \n让孩子在艺术中迎接新年。借由“马”这一贯穿中西文化的象征意涵——力量、速度、吉祥与希望——我们将引导家庭一起踏上一段有关形态、 rhythm（节奏）与想象力的旅程。\n孩子们将在轻松的氛围中认识马在中国文化中的独特寓意，并将这些象征重新诠释为富有童趣与艺术精神的手工作品。活动以毕加索立体主义为启发，将几何形状、线条与色彩组合成别具动感的马主题创作。\n我们鼓励孩子从家中带来薄纸板（如麦片盒、鞋盒纸片），用再生材料创作，呼应可持续理念。现场将提供彩卡、毛线或细绳、剪刀与胶棒等易操作材料。\n这是一次将环保、美育与节庆融合的体验，为家庭献上一份温暖而富有意义的农历新年记忆。
