SUMMARY:COLAPALOOZA
DESCRIPTION:Mike got spiked\, Cousin It and The “Friends” Ensemble play quality music to raise money for our friend Colin. \n\n\n\n\nThe Grand Social\, Dublin | Friday\, July 24\, 2026 \nDoors 7:00 PM | Tickets €20 \nLife has a cruel way of picking the wrong targets. Recently\, our dear friend Colin Howell was diagnosed with ALS. \nFor those who know him\, Colin is a “giant” in every sense—not just in stature\, but in spirit\, humour\, and a level of kindness that is frankly over-the-top. He’s the man who always has your back and the person who makes every room brighter. Now\, he is facing the fight of his life. Tasks we all take for granted—a trip to the shops or a morning shower—are becoming increasingly difficult. \nTo understand why we’re doing this\, you have to go back to Carrickmacross in the early 90s. While the rest of us were struggling to tune our guitars\, Idle Mind (led by the indefatigable Howell brothers\, Colin and Gary) was busy blowing the doors off local pubs. Watching them rip through Helmet and Therapy? covers was a religious experience. \nLet’s be honest: without the influence and unending encouragement of the Howell brothers\, there would be no Cousin It\, and by extension\, no Mike Got Spiked. Whether the world would have been a quieter\, more peaceful place without our collective noise is a debate for another day—but the fact remains: Colin is the reason we play. \nMusic brought us together and paved the way for lifelong friendships. Now it’s the only way we know how to fight back. With the blessing of the Howell family\, we are staging a massive night of music to raise the funds Colin needs for the “new normal” ahead. The lineup features: \nMike Got Spiked (Full Set) \nCousin It (Full Set) \nThe “Friends” Ensemble (A special set of covers and guest appearances) \nWhether you crashed at his home in Carrick\, shared a laugh in Dublin\, or had an adventure together in Thailand\, Germany\, or the States—we need you. Tickets priced at €20 are on sale now. \nEvery penny goes directly to Colin’s care. If you can’t make it\, buy a ticket anyway. If you can make it\, bring someone who hasn’t had the pleasure of meeting Colin yet. The man himself plans to be there to enjoy the night with us all. Let’s show this disease that while it may be “incurable\,” it’s got nothing on the community Colin Howell helped to build. \nSee you in Dublin this July. \n— Mike Got Spiked\, Cousin It\, & Friends

SUMMARY:Work Out Your Brain with Finnegans Wake
DESCRIPTION:Get ready to twist your brain and dive into the world of Finnegans Wake this Bloomsday! \n“Work Out Your Brain with Finnegans Wake” is a public reading and writing performance that invites you to engage the right side of your brain in a fun and supportive setting. Most of us tend to write with one hand\, strengthening neural pathways in the left hemisphere. \nThis event playfully encourages you to respond to James Joyce’s dreamlike book Finnegans Wake with your non-dominant hand\, awakening the right hemisphere. Joyce was said to have departed from traditional English when he wrote Finnegans Wake\, which is what makes this event especially comfortable for those with dyslexia or dyspraxia\, as there are no rules about how to read or write. \nLed by visual artist Vicki Davis\, the event is 90 minutes long\, but feel free to come and go from the room as you please. \n\nVicki Davis is a visual artist based in Cork. She graduated from the Technological University Dublin on Sherkin Island in West Cork 2020. Her practice is multidisciplinary spanning performance art\, film\, experimental sound and sculptural installation. She enjoys blurring the genres and describes her films as filmed performance art – edited. \nThe event is free but booking is essential. \nThe Bloomsday Festival is organised by The James Joyce Centre in partnership with Fáilte Ireland and the Department of Culture\, Communications and Sport.

SUMMARY:Bloomsday Festival
DESCRIPTION:Bloomsday celebrates Thursday 16 June 1904\, the day depicted in James Joyce’s novel Ulysses. The day is named after Leopold Bloom\, the central character in Ulysses. The novel follows the life and thoughts of Leopold Bloom and a host of other characters – real and fictional – from 8am on 16 June 1904 through to the early hours of the following morning. \nCelebrations often include dressing up like characters from the book and in clothes that would have been the style of the era. One of the hallmark fancy dress items of Bloomsday is the straw boater hat. Celebrations come in many different forms like readings\, performances and visiting the places and establishments referenced in the book.

DESCRIPTION:For the first Dublin by Dusk event IMMA is excited to present the screening of the multi award winning documentary North Circular: A Musical Trip Through Inner-City Dublin directed by Luke McManus. This exhibition brings together two distinct art practices – of painter Camille Souter (1929–2023) and contemporary artist Alberta Whittle (b. 1980). SUMMARY:The End Of The Beginning
DESCRIPTION:Contemporary Music Performance have a end of year gig at the Workman’s Club 29th and 30th April 2026 \n\n\n\n\nA change is in the air. The End of the Beginning is upon us\, and we want you to be a part of it. City of Dublin FET College Ballyfermot are hosting the annual end of year showcase and you won’t want to miss what we have in store. Two nights full of artistic expression\, varying from large scale soundscapes to intimate moments\, controlled and chaotic. \n\n\n\nBuilt and curated by graduates from one of the oldest modern music schools in Europe\, these gigs will offer not only a glimpse of the next generation  also a snapshot of a truly international musical world view. From Balkan influenced pop to dreamy experimentation and soul baring songwriting\, glitchy electronics to the last Seawolf\, the two-night showcase will also feature a selection of debut acts selected by the headliners.but \n\n\n\nSince 1989\, the annual Ballyfermot College Music Showcase has introduced artists like current RTE 2FM Rising artist Roe Byrne\, Choice Music Prize ‘26 nominee Junior Brother\, Damien Dempsey\, Lisa O’Neill\, Wallis Bird and Lucy Blue to wider audiences—creating unforgettable moments in some of Dublin’s most famous venues. \n\n\n\n\n2026 line-up: \nDardo: A Dublin born wizard on the loop station\, creating symphonies of chaotic bliss and pushing the very bounds of reality with a blend of vocal and instrumental dynamics that will leave your ears begging for more. \n\n\n\n\ntetiana: \nA Ukrainian songwriter whose work moves through a poetic and introspective style. Her songs explore emotional contrasts tenderness and strength\, sadness and resilience – creating a sound that feels both intimate and universal. Having written multiple successful songs for major Ukrainian artists and catching the eye of Bryan E. Miller\, tetiana’s music is destined to reach a wider audience. \n\n\n\n\nAltmae: \nEstonian-Finnish singer/songwriter blessed with a voice thousands can only dream of having\, and a grace that has hypnotised audiences from here to Germany using soft but explosive melodies that regularly leaves people slack jawed and inspired. \n\n\n\n\nVėtra: \nA Lithuanian singer/songwriter whose passion can barely be contained by the soft tones of the Kanklės\, a traditional harp that she has played since childhood. Through her powerful voice and atmospheric songs\, Vetra blends folk roots with contemporary songwriting\, creating performances that feel intimate\, emotional…and a little otherworldly. \n\n\n\n\nPatrick Finnegan: \nA Dublin born singer/songwriter who uses his past grievances with life and trauma to call forth something greater. With a thirst for life that escapes through the cracks in sombre lyrics\, his melodies stay in the mind long after first hearing. \n\n\n\n\nAndrei Yolkeen: \nThe rebellious pirate of rock is more myth than man\, the very last Seawolf on our planet. He has spent his whole life wandering the Baltic and northern seas and has just stepped off the ship onto the shores of Ireland to give an unforgettable performance. Armoured by his guitar\, accordion and pipe he strikes the audience with blatantly provocative poetry – get ready for a fierce celebration! \n\n\n\n\nThe end of an opening chapter\, the beginning of great stories. \n\n\n\n\nThe HND in Contemporary Music Performance is a two-year programme designed for aspiring professional musicians\, offering a deep dive into both the creative and business sides of the industry. Under the guidance of experienced musicians and industry professionals\, students refine their artistry\, develop industry insight\, and build lasting connections with like-minded peers. With a focus on individuality and artistic growth\, this unique programme empowers musicians to carve their own path in the world of music.
