SUMMARY:NSOI: Philip Glass Explored with Russell Davies & Namekawa
DESCRIPTION:National Symphony Orchestra Ireland\nDennis Russell Davies conductor\nMaki Namekawa piano \nPhilip Glass\nThe Light (Irish premiere)\nInterlude from The Voyage (Irish premiere)\nPiano Concerto\, ‘Mishima’ (Irish premiere) \nTwo of Philip Glass’s most distinguished champions – conductor Dennis Russell Davies and pianist Maki Namekawa – return to conclude National Symphony Orchestra Ireland’s focus on one of the most unique and distinctive voices in American contemporary music with three Irish premieres. \nGlass has praised Dennis Russell Davies as ‘one of the world’s most inventive conductors’. Crafted from the haunting soundtrack to the 1985 film\, it retains its hypnotic\, cinematic qualities while giving the piano a central\, virtuosic role. \nThe Light\, Glass’s first score for a full symphony orchestra\, and the Interlude from his opera\, The Voyage\, also receive Irish premieres. \nPresented by NCH

SUMMARY:Baliza
DESCRIPTION:Baliza is a music project born from the creative union of Gon Massey from Barcelona and Anxo Silveira from Galicia. The duo met while performing Spanish music on the streets of Dublin\, Ireland back in 2023. Their shared passion for music and their cultural background quickly evolved into a project that has captivated the Spanish community in Ireland. \nWith a unique sound that blends heartfelt storytelling with an unmistakable energy\, the duo is ready to explore new territories. Baliza isn’t just a band—it’s an experience. Their performances\, or better known as “Balizadas”\, are as much about connection and energy as they are about music. \n“The duo managed to gather between 500 and 600 people on the streets of Dublin. “They must have represented 40% of the Spanish population living in the city\,” said the band’s drummer.” – La Opinión A Coruña \n“When you go abroad\, you appreciate everything that reminds you of your country. Even if you are far away\, it is nice to feel that you can share things that you cannot with people from the country.” – Huffpost

SUMMARY:Foggy Notions presents Nerves
DESCRIPTION:Nerves return with their first new music of 2026 in the form of “N26”\, a sharp\, anxious blast that captures the band at their most immediate and confrontational. \nOriginally formed in County Mayo and now based in Dublin\, Nerves have steadily built a reputation as one of Ireland’s most uncompromising live acts. Their shows feel less like performances and more like pressure points\, all volume\, tension and release\, earning them tours alongside some of the buzziest new names in the circuit\, Maruja and Gurriers\, as well as shows with noise-rock royalty\, The Jesus Lizard. That word of mouth has been matched by growing critical support from Kerrang!\, The Line of Best Fit\, CLASH\, Cvlt Nation\, Louder Than War\, Hot Press\, Rough Trade\, Metal Sucks and vairous playback across BBC Radio 6. \nTheir 2025 EP Iarmhaireacht marked a turning point. A record rooted in atmosphere and narrative as much as abrasion\, it traced a line between rural memory and present day unease\, pairing archival textures with tightly wound\, industrial-leaning arrangements. It introduced a broader emotional range to the band’s sound without sacrificing any of its force\, and positioned \nNerves as something more expansive than a noise rock outlier. \n“N26” feels like a direct continuation of that trajectory\, but with the dial pushed further into the red. Produced once again by Daniel Fox of Gilla Band\, the track condenses their approach into three relentless minutes. There are traces of techno in its pulse\, but it lands with the blunt impact of noise rock\, drawing a line between the mechanical and the visceral. \nLyrically\, the song confronts the slow erosion of rural Irish towns\, where opportunity thins out and younger generations are left in suspension. It is a theme that ran beneath Iarmhaireacht\, but here it is brought into sharper focus\, less abstract\, more accusatory. The result is a track that feels both personal and systemic\, urgent without losing its sense of place. \nWith more new music expected across 2026\, “N26” arrives as a clear opening statement. On stage\, that momentum is already underway\, including a headline appearance at the tenth anniversary of Supersonic Festival\, signalling a year that looks set to push the band further beyond the margins they first emerged from.

SUMMARY:CHRIS BRAIN
DESCRIPTION:Chris Brain is a Yorkshire-based folk singer-songwriter whose work sits firmly in the British pastoral tradition\, shaped by close attention to place\, memory and emotional nuance. His fourth album\, Red Sun Rising (2026)\, is a quietly powerful collection of songs centred on yearning\, restlessness and the desire for change \nRooted in acoustic textures and intimate storytelling\, Red Sun Rising feels like a record made in motion: landscapes shifting\, seasons turning\, inner lives gently unsettled. Brain’s songwriting balances melody and restraint. \nA familiar voice on BBC Radio 6 Music and the BBC Radio 2 Folk Show\, Chris Brain has toured extensively across the UK and internationally\, including a seven-date sold-out tour of Japan. In 2026\, he returns with a UK & Ireland tour to accompany the release of Red Sun Rising. \n“There are shades of the master Ralph McTell here and I can think of no greater compliment than that\, I love It” – Mark Radcliffe\, BBC 2 Folk Show

SUMMARY:Foggy Notions Presents the Kitty Craft
DESCRIPTION:Kitty Craft is Pamela Valfer. \nDebuting in 1994 with the S/T cassette release on the Australian\,Toytown label\, and IT’S STUPID EP 7″ in 1995\, Pam’s sound was originally a low-tech affair. 1997’s I GOT RULEZ EP 7” expanded her sound with keys & sampler\, leading to 1998 release of BEATS & BREAKS ROM THE FLOWER PATCH. In 2000\, her 2nd full-length album\, CATSKILLS. Both albums had Japanese tours and Japanese CD releases. \nAround 2003/2004 after the completion of her 3rd Album… Pam dropped the mic\, hung up her headphones\, and put kitty craft into hibernation. The album was put down\, filed away\, and no plans to be heard. Pam then focused on her visual and multimedia art\, and career as an art professor. \nIn 2019\, kitty craft woke from hibernation and quietly without fanfare\, released “Beats and Breaks from the Flower Patch” and “Catskills” on all\nstreaming & digital platforms. Followed soon after by “Lost Tapes”\, a gem of an album\, comprised exclusively of the previously unreleased\nsongs recorded as a full album in 2003. \nIn some kind of pandemic zeitgeist\, along with stuff like Lofi Girl/ChilledCow\, a 90’s aesthetic resurgence\, and the popularity of new and old vinyl records – kitty craft has been adopted by a whole new group of digital natives. Amazing and unexpected. \nValentine’s Day 2022 brought us kitty craft’s first full-length LP vinyl record… MEW (1994-2004)\, an anthology album with tracks spanning all\nher eras… MEW\, shows an artist with a clear vision from the start. \nSince then – the Kitty Craft discography has been re-issued in expanded/deluxe CD and vinyl editions. And some cassettes too! \nIn November of 2024\, Los Angeles – Pam played her first show in 20+ years to an incredible response. Now 2025 and touring in earnest\, Kitty\nCraft’s new young fans have created a wonderful and welcoming scene. You should come say hi.

DESCRIPTION:As part of the 10th anniversary tour of her album Kayıp Aşklar Ülkesi\, Kalben comes to Dublin on June 7\, 2026\, performing at The Grand Social. \nWith her velvet-like voice\, emotional intensity\, and undeniable energy\, Kalben transforms the stage into a shared\, intimate space where songs turn into conversations and the audience becomes part of the moment. \nThis special night marks one of the European legs of her anniversary tour\, celebrating a decade of music\, stories\, and connection\, with Güneş Özgeç opening the night. \nAge Restriction: 18+ \nWho is Kalben? \nKalben is an artist who treats her songs as confessions and her concerts as sincere\, safe meeting spaces. Drawing from folk\, blues\, and indie pop\, she weaves vulnerability and strength together\, expressing deep emotions through simple yet striking lyrics. \nHer stage is a place where love\, loss\, freedom\, and the courage of being human are spoken out loud. \nTransforming the audience from listeners into participants at every show\, Kalben celebrates her 10th year as an artist with Land of Lost Lovers\, released in 2026. Standing out within her rich discography—alongside albums such as Sonsuza Kadar\, Kalp Hanım\, and Eski Dünyanın Yangını\, as well as numerous singles\, duets\, live recordings\, and EPs—this album is considered one of her most profound and grounded works\, both vocally and lyrically. \nHaving toured for over a decade from Berlin to Mardin\, New York to Diyarbakır\, Kalben openly shares the memories and emotions she has gathered along the way\, bringing together everyone who has walked this journey with her. \nThe Land of Lost Lovers tour—marking Kalben’s most free and fearless era—continues.

SUMMARY:Imelda May – Raised on Songs & Stories
DESCRIPTION:After the sell-out success of her current tour\, Raised on Songs & Stories\, globally revered Irish artist Imelda May has announced additional summer dates. She returns to Dublin’s Vicar Street on June 9th and 10th. \nThis unique series of intimate evenings will feature new stripped back versions of her wide discography and favourite songs\, integrated with her famed poetry & storytelling. \nImelda says: “I’m coming to you soon! 18 nights of an Irish tour. It’ll be an evening of songs\, poems\, stories\, joy and beauty. This idea evolved naturally over the last couple of years. You see\, when I write\, produce and release an album I get so excited to perform the songs live that I fizz up and plan and rehearse gigs with such enthusiasm that I’m like a little thrilled whirlwind but too often I leave room for little else. I work out which songs will flow best into another to create the vibe desired that I sometimes don’t leave much space for the unknown which is where a different magic lies. This space is the place where I exist and love most\, it’s where I write and create. So it feels right to stay there a while. To have a gig where someone might ask for a song I haven’t visited in a while and I think ‘yeah let’s give it a go’\, or where I can tell you the stories behind the songs and how I ended up working with some of the people I’ve worked with so far. Not a ‘show’ this will be a shared night of what music\, art\, connection and creativity means to me\, with you.”

SUMMARY:Dogstar
DESCRIPTION:Two years on from the release of their most recent album Somewhere Between the Power Lines and Palm Trees\, American alternative rock outfit Dogstar have announced a show in Dublin’s 3Olympia Theatre on Thursday 11th June 2026. \n\n\nComprised of guitarist/vocalist Bret Domrose\, drummer Robert Mailhouse and bassist Keanu Reeves\, Dogstar was born in 1991 as a band of friends who came together in a garage in Southern California and simply dreamed of playing music together and making a little noise. Now\, all these years later\, Domrose\, Mailhouse and Reeves took some time at the tail end of an historic lockdown to create this collection of songs that fully encompasses who they are as artists today. The happily reunited rock trio’s official return came in May 2023 – more than 20 years since their last performance together – with their first public performance at the BottleRock Napa Valley music festival with a set that sparked fan and critical praise alike\, including the live debut of their lead single ‘Everything Turns Around\,’ which was officially in July of that year. \nDogstar epitomize the quintessential Southern California storytelling rock band they’ve always been in their hearts\, making deeply resonant music that literally comes from Somewhere Between the Power Lines and Palm Trees – the name of their most recent album which was released in October\, 2023 via their own label Dillon Street Records (distributed through ADA).

SUMMARY:MOLLY O’MAHONY
DESCRIPTION:O’Mahony first emerged as a formidable voice in the Irish art-folk scene as front woman of Mongoose\, with whom she released two albums and toured extensively over the course of a decade. Her shift into solo work marked a turning inward. In 2022 she released her debut solo album\, The House Of David\, a deeply personal collection written largely during lockdown while back home in Ballydehob\, West Cork. The record introduced audiences to a songwriter unafraid of emotional candour\, pairing spine-tingling harmonies with diaristic honesty.\nThe House Of David earned national radio support including airplay on RTÉ Radio 1 and received a nomination for Best Debut Album at the Hot Press Awards\, confirming O’Mahony as one of Ireland’s most compelling emerging voices. \nFour years on\, she returns with her most expansive and emotionally resonant work to date. Rooted in Ireland’s storytelling tradition yet shaped by contemporary global unease\, her new album Waiting On The World explores love\, uncertainty and resilience in a post-COVID landscape. \n“Molly’s voice echoes ethereally like a cherubic Patti Smith\, like a celestial PJ Harvey soaring” – Barry Egan\, Sunday Independent \n“Stunning\, impressive and evocative…” – Alexandra Anderson\, Hotpress

SUMMARY:Dada Deux: A Joycean Cabaret
DESCRIPTION:Kick off The Bloomsday Festival celebrations at The James Joyce Centre on Thursday\, 11th June at 8.30pm with a Joyce-themed cabaret of readings\, performance\, music and natter\, hosted by author David Collard. Celebrate the eccentric and avant-garde spirit of Dadaism and James Joyce with a special Bloomsday Festival cabaret of readings and songs! \nLast year’s gathering His Art Belongs to Dada celebrated Joyce’s links to Zürich (where he wrote much of Ulysses) and the anarchic artistic movement known as Dada (which was founded in that city). This year\, David returns to the Joyce Centre to host Dada Deux: A Joycean Cabaret. We will be joined by novelist Rónán Hession (aka Mumblin’ Deaf Ro)\, composer David Bremner\, soprano Suzanne Savage\, and (live via satellite from Venice\, California) Joyce enthusiast and polymath Gerry Fialka. \nSurprises and beneficial shocks are guaranteed at this informal one-off gathering\, with a nod to 1920s Dada cabaret. There will be music\, performance\, readings\, songs\, conversation\, audience participation — and maybe a little whiskey. The evening offers a wildly entertaining start to the Bloomsday Festival and will appeal to seasoned Joyceans and newcomers alike. All are welcome! \nThe Company \nDavid Collard writes for print and online publications including the Times Literary Supplement\, Literary Review\, 3:AM Magazine\, gorse\, Exacting Clam\, White Review and others. He lives in London\, where he organises cultish online gatherings that showcase contemporary authors\, indie publishers and other creative practitioners. His next book\, another collection of 100 essays (but not about Joyce)\, will appear in June 2027. \nDavid Bremner is a composer and musician from West Cumbria who moved to Ireland in 1999 and who now lectures in composition at the Dublin Conservatoire. With soprano Elizabeth Hilliard he runs the music/text production company Béal. SUMMARY:The Youthful Labyrinth of Experience – Joyce’s Chamber Music by Composer Ross Lee Finney
DESCRIPTION:Join us at The James Joyce Centre on Friday\, 12 June 2026 at 7pm as soprano Lorna Windsor and pianist Nicole Panizza present the European premiere of Chamber Music\, with the poems of James Joyce and songs of Ross Lee Finney. \nThis collection of beautiful poems written by James Joyce between 1901 and 1904\, published in 1907\, has long remained in the shadow of Joyce’s close-following famous works: Stephen Hero\, Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man\, Dubliners\, Ulysses and Finnegan’s Wake. If Stephen Hero and Portrait of the Artist revealed much of Joyce’s personality\, it can be said that there are clues\, even strong hints\, to those very personality traits and roots\, also planted in the poems of Chamber Music. These are the poems of an exceptional young man\, already marked by the weighty\, vast culture he gained as a student and by his pithy and perspicacious views on life. Joyce\, also a talented singer and passionate music lover\, imbued his all his works with music\, including the 36 poems of Chamber Music\, which he deeply desired to be sung. \nIn 1927\, Joyce was living in Paris\, where the young American composer\, Ross Lee Finney (1906-1997) was introduced to him. Finney\, like Joyce\, was also a singer\, guitarist and pianist. Finney later became a leading American\, Pulitzer-awarded composer of the mid-twentieth century. He was the only classical music composer to set the whole collection of Chamber Music poems\, but performing the complete cycle\, due to the revised laws of the Joyce Legacy\, was too prohibitive in cost. \nThe interesting symbiosis which is found between Joyce’s poems and Finney’s music resembles those of Schubert – Müller (Winterreise) or Schumann-Heine (Dichterliebe). With great sensitivity Finney mirrors Joyce’s particular and varying poetic styles\, from madrigalist\, to folk or balladlike idioms\, to polyphonic\, to lyrical\, to symbolism. The abundant literary influences in the poems are akin to the clear compositional references in the music\, and thus give a universal dimension to the song cycle. Moreover\, in Joyce and Finney we are looking at moods and perceptions\, rather than raw or direct emotion\, as each song unwinds its story or stance\, through a learning labyrinth\, experience\, a journey. \nLORNA WINDSOR\, soprano\, opera and acclaimed vocal chamber music specialist. Her wide stage experience in major European theatres and festivals\, as singer\, actress\, or voce recitante\, is an asset to her performing in the more intimate\, sometimes miniaturist world of song or vocal chamber music\, either with piano\, instrumental groups or with orchestra. \nDR NICOLE PANIZZA is an internationally acclaimed collaborative pianist\, scholar\, educator\, and arts consultant. A Fulbright Award recipient – and Harvard University\, University of Oxford\, and Manhattan School of Music research fellow – she completed her Doctoral studies with Roger Vignoles at the Royal College of Music. \nTickets are €20. \nThe Bloomsday Festival is organised by The James Joyce Centre in partnership with Fáilte Ireland and the Department of Culture\, Communications and Sport.
