DESCRIPTION:Pat Metheny Guitars\nJoe Dyson Drums\nChris Fishman Piano/Keyboards\nJermaine Paul Bass\nLeonard Patton Percussion/Vocal \nThe acclaimed jazz musician returns to NCH with the latest iteration of his celebrated project\, Side-Eye III+. \nSide-Eye III+ showcases Pat Metheny’s enduring dedication to mentoring the next generation of jazz innovators while exploring fresh musical territories. \n  \n\n\n\nPat Metheny was born in Lee’s Summit\, MO on August 12\, 1954\, into a musical family. Starting on trumpet at the age of 8\, Metheny switched to guitar at age 12. By the age of 15\, he was working regularly with the best jazz musicians in Kansas City\, receiving valuable on-the- bandstand experience at an unusually young age. Metheny first burst onto the international jazz scene in 1974. Over the course of his three-year stint with vibraphone great Gary Burton\, the young Missouri native already displayed his soon-to-become trademarked playing style\, which blended the loose and flexible articulation customarily reserved for horn players with an advanced rhythmic and harmonic sensibility: a way of playing and improvising that was modern in conception but grounded deeply in the jazz tradition of melody\, swing\, and the blues. With the release of his first album\, Bright Size Life (1975)\, he reinvented the traditional “jazz guitar” sound for a new generation of players. Throughout his career\, Pat Metheny has continued to redefine the genre by utilizing new technology and constantly working to evolve the improvisational and sonic potential of his instrument. \nMetheny’s versatility is nearly without peer on any instrument. Over the years\, he has performed with artists as diverse as Steve Reich to Ornette Coleman to Herbie Hancock to Jim Hall to Milton Nascimento to David Bowie. Metheny’s body of work includes compositions for solo guitar\, small ensembles\, electric and acoustic instruments\, large orchestras\, and ballet pieces and even the robotic instruments of his Orchestrion project\, while always sidestepping the limits of any one genre. \nAs well as being an accomplished musician\, Metheny has also participated in the academic arena as a music educator. At 18\, he was the youngest teacher ever at the University of Miami. At 19\, he became the youngest teacher ever at the Berklee College of Music\, where he also received an honorary doctorate more than twenty years later\, in 1996. He has also taught music workshops all over the world\, from the Dutch Royal Conservatory to the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz to clinics in Asia and South America. He has also been a true musical pioneer in the realm of electronic music and was one of the very first jazz musicians to treat the synthesizer as a serious musical instrument. Years before the invention of MIDI technology\, Metheny was using the Synclavier as a composing tool. He also has been instrumental in the development of several new kinds of guitars such as the soprano acoustic guitar\, the 42-string Pikasso guitar\, Ibanez’s PM series jazz guitars\, and a variety of other custom instruments. \nIt is one thing to attain popularity as a musician\, but it is another to receive the kind of acclaim Metheny has garnered from critics and peers. Over the years\, he has won countless polls as “Best Jazz Guitarist” and awards\, including three gold records for (Still Life) Talking\, Letter from Home\, and Secret Story. He has also won 20 Grammy Awards spread out over a variety of different categories including Best Rock Instrumental\, Best Contemporary Jazz Recording\, Best Jazz Instrumental Solo\, Best Instrumental Composition at one point winning seven consecutive Grammys for seven consecutive albums. In 2015 he was inducted into the DownBeat Hall of Fame\, becoming only the fourth guitarist to be included (along with Django Reinhardt\, Charlie Christian and Wes Montgomery) and its youngest member. In 2018\, he was named an NEA Jazz Master\, the nation’s highest honor in jazz\, awarded to the recipients “for their lifetime achievements and exceptional contributions to the advancement of jazz.” Metheny has spent much of his life on tour\, often doing more than 100 shows a year since becoming a bandleader in the 70’s. \nAt the time of this writing\, he continues to be one of the brightest stars of the jazz community\, dedicating time to both his own projects and those of emerging artists and established veterans alike\, helping them to reach their audience as well as realizing their own artistic visions. \nPresented by the NCH

DESCRIPTION:Dirty Rotten Imbeciles (often abbreviated and referred to as D.R.I.) are an American crossover thrash band that formed in Houston\, Texas in 1982 and would later relocate to San Francisco\, California. The band is currently composed of two of its founding members\, lead vocalist Kurt Brecht and guitarist Spike Cassidy\, as well as bassist Greg Orr and drummer Danny Walker. \nD.R.I. never gained a mainstream audience\, but the integration of their hardcore punk roots with thrash metal influences was a stylistic catalyst for their contemporaries – most notably Suicidal Tendencies\, Corrosion of Conformity\, Stormtroopers of Death\, the Cro-Mags\, Nuclear Assault\, Adrenalin O.D.\, and Cryptic Slaughter – alongside whom they are considered to be one of the major pioneers of what would later be called “crossover thrash”. These bands had a heavy influence on modern thrash metal.

Harrell was born D’Kieran Harrell in Ruston\, Louisiana in 1998. He first heard B.B. King at age two and responded by singing along. He sang in his church choir as a boy while continuing to be drawn to the blues. Films like The Blues Brothers\, Cadillac Records and Ray made him eager to sing and play. He received his first guitar at 12\, and by 16 was writing his own songs. Initially inspired by B.B. Harrell’s first paying gig was as an invited guest to the B.B. King Of The Blues Award for Preserving Traditional Blues Heritage from the Jus’ Blues Music Foundation. In addition to B.B. King\, Harrell fell under the spell of blues masters including Albert King\, Freddie King\, Elmore James\, Muddy Waters and others\, and made their styles part of his musical vocabulary. His debut album\, ‘The Right Man’\, was released on the Little Village label in 2023 to rave reviews and wildly excited fans. \nNow\, with his Alligator Records debut album\, ‘Talkin’ Heavy’\, D.K. While the rest of us were struggling to tune our guitars\, Idle Mind (led by the indefatigable Howell brothers\, Colin and Gary) was busy blowing the doors off local pubs. Watching them rip through Helmet and Therapy? covers was a religious experience. \nLet’s be honest: without the influence and unending encouragement of the Howell brothers\, there would be no Cousin It\, and by extension\, no Mike Got Spiked. Whether the world would have been a quieter\, more peaceful place without our collective noise is a debate for another day—but the fact remains: Colin is the reason we play. \nMusic brought us together and paved the way for lifelong friendships. DESCRIPTION:GLU Esoteric melodies collide with moody beats and a dynamic flow in GLU; the solo project from Michael Shuman (Queens Of The Stone Age\, Mini Mansions). With no major concentration of genre aside from melding them\, Shuman unravels ribbons of rhyme and musicianship that are introspective and engaging. The EP entitled MY DEMONS released early 2023. “For me\, the project was about being on my own terms; having my own momentum\,” explains Shuman. “Musically\, I wanted to do something that was challenging and something that scared me. I usually start out writing riffs but for GLU I had to write a lot of lyrics. Sitting on a computer\, starting with a beat and using synthesizers and keyboards opened up so many new possibilities. This is something that is different because I do come from punk rock\, but I’m doing this… so it’s not going to sound like your typical DJ or Hip-Hop producer. I want it to feel fresh\, and that’s the most exciting thing for me.” \nThe back and forth of Shuman’s soft\, ariose soundscapes lead way to catchy lyrics touching on subjects of struggle\, loss\, addiction\, and trauma\, hence; MY DEMONS. Emotional explosions emerge in a realm of calm hip hop with upbeat\, poppy moments. “A lot of this is me speaking as an adult now\, but it’s talking about me as a child. I’m at an age where I don’t care as much about masking things\, lyrically.” With guest vocalist Sarah Barthel (vocalist of Phantogram) lending a soothing voice to the self-titled intro\, the well rounded tone of the EP lays out a curious\, sonic fantasy. “I like the idea of different voices coming in and Sarah is a real singer\,” states Shuman. “She can do anything and it sounds great. She was really helpful in elevating these songs.” Mixed by Adam Thane and mastered by Dale Becker. \nThe first single of 2025 “BOOGIE MAN”\, is an infectious genre bending power track that chronologies the feeling of losing yourself in the moment\, and not having any outside worries or anxieties about who may be watching or what they may think. Akin to artists like Jamiroquai\, Gorillaz\, and Mac Miller. \nGLU has had the chance to play these songs live on tours with Phantogram\, The Blue Stones\, Miles Kane and Blood Red Shoes. “Boogie Man is a dance song about stepping outside yourself\, letting loose\, and not taking yourself too seriously. Life is short…. Who cares about what others think.” says Shuman. \nThe track was selected for a sync placement on the latest instalment of the beloved video game series MLB The Show ‘25 and features alongside artists including Kendrick Lamar\, De La Soul and COIN. \nRiding the momentum into Spring & Summer 2025\, GLU took Boogie Man to clubs and venues across the UK and USA\, selling out release shows in London\, Chicago & Los Angeles. \nHeading into 2026 Shumans team expands\, GLU inks a recording deal with FLG (Skunk Anansie\, Corella\, As It Is) and celebrates this by releasing a cover version of the classic 90’s hit ‘Crush’ by Jennifer Paige. \n‘Looking for the right cover song is an interesting task.’ Says Shuman ‘You are searching for a song\, which inherently is so deeply personal to the person who wrote it\, yet it has to connect with you enough to try and make it your own. Not so much musically\, but lyrically. The music side is the fun part\, where you augment it to a completely different landscape\, giving a totally different perspective to the original. Crush is an amazing pop song written by Jennifer Paige\, but was produced at a time where I don’t think it got its due. That being said it was a huge hit that most of the world knows well. I think that’s the other factor in choosing\, so that when you play live to an audience who may not know your material\, there’s that one song in the set they already are a fan of.’
