DESCRIPTION:Some bands don’t just soundtrack a moment\, they stay with you. \n\n\nAs one of the defining indie-rock bands of the 21st century\, Death Cab for Cutie have spent the last 30 years defying every possible expectation. \nFormed in 1997 in Bellingham\, Washington\, Death Cab for Cutie were initially the quintessential underdog college-radio act\, anchored by co-founder\, frontman\, and lead songwriter Ben Gibbard’s achingly earnest\, erudite (yet still accessible) lyricism that drew inspiration from ‘80s alternative tastemakers The Smiths\, The Cure\, second-wave emo progenitors Sunny Day Real Estate\, lo-fi acoustic hero Elliott Smith\, Northwest contemporaries Modest Mouse\, and introspective rock heads Built To Spill. \nStill\, given the overwhelming cultural significance of the 2000s indie-rock scene\, Gibbard (and his legions of young fans) had no reason to expect that DCfC\, despite their instant-classic\, magnetic\, pop-curious melodies\, would transcend this particular moment in time\, one marked by a groundswell of mainstream interest in the once-tiny indie-rock subculture. \nNearly three decades after Gibbard recorded his bare-bones debut cassette\, You Can Play These Songs With Chords\, and completed the DCfC lineup comprising original guitarist and producer Chris Walla (later replaced by Dave Depper on guitar and Zac Rae on keyboards)\, bassist Nick Harmer\, and drummer Jason McGerr\, DCfC have grown from underground indie contenders to pillars of the modern alternative-rock landscape. \n“I’m as shocked as anybody that I’m still doing this\,” Gibbard says as he surveys the scope of his career. “Coming out of the ‘90s\, I just thought the idea of having a career playing indie rock was pretty laughable. I always kind of thought that this would be something that I would do for a period of my life\, and then I’d have to go back to grad school or something.” \nNot only did Gibbard’s onetime passion project blossom into a full-fledged music career — complete with an enviable catalog of ten studio albums (three of which have been platinum-certified)\, seven EPs\, and eight Grammy nominations — it became the very soundtrack to fans’ lives. In 2021\, Gibbard and DCfC were honored as one of the 200 Most Important Artists of Pitchfork’s First 25 Years. \nAfter developing a loyal underground following via their first three albums\, 1998’s Something About Airplanes\, 2000’s We Have The Facts and We’re Voting Yes (later voted #27 on Pitchfork’s The 50 Best Indie Rock Albums of the Pacific Northwest)\, and 2001’s The Photo Album\, DCfC broke into mainstream consciousness with 2003’s era-defining\, platinum-certified album Transatlanticism\, home to aughts classics such as “The New Year\,” “Title and Registration\,” and “The Sound of Settling\,” which would go on to be named by NPR as one of “The Decade’s 50 Most Important Recordings and place on Rolling Stone’s 100 Best Albums of the 2000s. \nAs DCfC’s profile grew\, bolstered by a prominent guest appearance on the popular teen drama The OC\, Gibbard and the group transitioned from the indie incubator Barsuk Records to major label Atlantic Records\, on which they released their Platinum-certified\, Grammy-nominated (for Best Alternative Album) 2005 project\, Plans\, which featured chart-topping singles “Soul Meets Body” and “I Will Follow You into the Dark\,” the latter of which was also honored with a GRAMMY nod (Best Pop Performance By Duo Or Group With Vocals). \nOver the next two decades\, DCfC would release five more beloved albums\, beginning with 2008’s Narrow Stairs\, 2011’s Codes and Keys\, 2015’s Kintsugi (each received GRAMMY nominations)\, 2018’s Thank You For Today\, whose lead single “Gold Rush” hit No. 1 on both the Alternative and Adult Alternative radio charts. 2022’s Asphalt Meadows\, whose singles “Here To Forever” and “Pepper” became the band’s seventh and eighth No. 1s (respectively) on the Adult Alternative Airplay chart. \nIn 2019\, the band subverted genre expectations when they hopped on Chance the Rapper’s track “Do You Remember (ft. Death Cab for Cutie).” Two years later\, Gibbard teamed up with ambient songwriter Tycho on the joint single\, “Only Love.” Meanwhile\, in 2016\, Gibbard wrote a song called “Me & Magdalena” for classic ’60s boy band The Monkees. The track appeared on The Monkees’ album Good Times! and was ranked Rolling Stone‘s 18th best song of that year. \nA prolific songwriter\, curator\, performer\, and philanthropist\, Gibbard has always found time to weave in creative projects between DCfC albums. In 2004\, DCfC supported Pearl Jam as part of the Vote for Change Tour and contributed a track to the Dave Eggers-curated compilation album\, The Future Soundtrack for America. Their political activism continued in 2008 when they performed at the Democratic National Convention in Denver. A few years later\, Gibbard became the first person to write an essay for the 90 Days\, 90 Reasons project. In 2016\, DCfC’s anti-Trump song\, “Million Dollar Loan\,” launched 30 Days\, 30 Songs\, and in 2020\, they contributed a track to the Good Music To Avert the Collapse of American Democracy compilation\, which raised funds for voters’ rights organizations ahead of that year’s election. \nMeanwhile\, as the COVID-19 pandemic upended the music industry in early 2020\, Gibbard hosted regular livestreaming events from his own home\, which brought an enormous amount of comfort to fans still trapped at home in an uncertain time and raised over $250K in donations and supplies for various Seattle-area organizations. Later that year\, DCfC released the five-song Georgia EP featuring covers of artists from the state of Georgia; the EP raised over $100K for Fair Fight Action\, the national voting rights organization founded by Stacey Abrams. \nIn February 2022\, Gibbard conceived\, curated\, and executive-produced Ocean Child: Songs of Yoko Ono\, an acclaimed tribute to the groundbreaking singer\, songwriter\, multimedia artist\, and activist released in celebration of her 89th birthday. The collection – which included DCfC’s own cover of “Waiting For The Sunrise” – also featured contributions from a wide range of artists\, including David Byrne\, Japanese Breakfast\, the Flaming Lips\, and Sharon Van Etten. \nIn the last five years\, Death Cab for Cutie have taken much-deserved victory laps across the country to celebrate the 20th anniversaries of Transatlanticism and Plans\, the former of which also reunited Gibbard with his bestselling supergroup\, The Postal Service. Both tours landed with a splash; the Transatlanticism 20th Anniversary Tour sold 400\,000 tickets in North America alone (2023-2024) and included two sold-out nights at NYC’s Madison Square Garden and three at LA’s Hollywood Bowl. Additionally\, they headlined festivals such as Kilby Court in Salt Lake City\, Just Like Heaven in Los Angeles\,  Chicago’s Riot Fest\, and London’s venerable All Points East. Reflecting on DCfC’s longevity and the way its music has touched so many lives\, Gibbard says: “Music is a time machine. It’s this thing that takes you back to places in your life. And I think that when you write earnest music in a way that soundtracks moments in people’s lives\, they tend to come see you play some 20 years later.” \nGibbard continues: “If someone comes up to me and tells me a story about how something that I’ve written has impacted them or has marked time in their life\, it sounds kind of hokey\, but it really is one of the greatest compliments you can be given.” \nAs DCfC get prepare to enter a new era\, complete with a return to their indie roots by joining ANTI- Records and readying new music for 2026\, Gibbard opens up about what inspires him to keep creating and evolving as an artist. “I just love the feeling of being in a room having just made something that I’m proud of. DESCRIPTION:Often depicted as a chameleonic artist who constantly ‘changes his style\,’ Joe Jackson insists that most of his albums are in ‘his own mainstream’ – collections of sophisticated pop songs\, using different kinds of rhythms and combinations of instruments.\nJoe Jackson has just confirmed his return to 3Olympia Theatre\, Dublin on Sunday 27th September 2026.\nJoe Jackson was born on August 11 1954 in Burton-on-Trent\, England\, but grew up in the South Coast naval port city of Portsmouth At age 16 Joe played his first paying gig\, as pianist in a pub next door to a glue factory just outside of Portsmouth.  This was followed by other pub gigs (in which he was often trying to entertain crowds of drunken\, bottle-throwing sailors) and accompanying a bouzouki player in a Greek restaurant. At age 18 Joe won a scholarship to study Composition\, Piano\, and Percussion at London’s Royal Academy of Music. By 1978 Joe was living in London and hawking an album-length demo\, with his own band (Graham Maby\, Bass; Dave Houghton\, Drums; Gary Sanford\, Guitar) standing by. That demo  –  already called Look Sharp  – eventually found its way to American producer David Kershenbaum\, who was in London in the capacity of talent scout for A&M Records.  Joe was immediately signed and Look Sharp more professionally re-recorded in August ’78.  The Joe Jackson Band finally started to play regular gigs and the album was released in January 1979. \nJoe Jackson’s story up to this point is much more fully\, fascinatingly\, and hilariously recounted in his book A CURE FOR GRAVITY.  Look Sharp was followed within a year by the very similar I’m The Man\, and in 1980 by the darker\, more reggae-influenced Beat Crazy. In 1981 Jackson recorded Jumpin’ Jive\, a ‘musical vacation’ paying tribute to Swing and Jump Blues artists such as Louis Jordan and Cab Calloway.  Returning to songwriting\, Joe spent a large chunk of 1982 in New York.  The result was Night and Day\, a more sophisticated and melodic record built around keyboards and Latin percussion\, rather than guitars.  With a new guitar-less band\, Jackson hit the road for a whole year\, and the album became his biggest success\, going platinum in the US. \nJackson’s next album Body and Soul(1984) was in a similar vein to Night and Day but featured a horn section (which\, along with the Blue Note-inspired cover art\, led many people to wrongly assume he’d made a jazz record). For Big World (1986) Jackson stripped everything down to a 4-piece again\, and recorded live\, direct to 2-track master.  In 1989 he went in the opposite direction with the majestic\, semi-autobiographical Blaze of Glory\, and toured with an 11-piece band.  Laughter and Lust (1991) was more like a mainstream (though still idiosyncratic) rock record\, but yet another lengthy world tour left Jackson exhausted and at a creative dead end.  As he sees it\, his workaholic phase\, which also included several film scores\, a live album (Live 1980-86)\, an instrumental album (Will Power\, 1987)\, guest appearances with Suzanne Vega\, Ruben Blades and Joan Armatrading\, and endless touring was over. The 1990s brought some of his most challenging and eclectic works: the gentle\, soul-searching Night Music (1994)\, the ambitious and original song-cycle based on the Seven Deadly Sins\, Heaven and Hell (1997)\, and the album Joe considers his best (and most underrated): Night and Day II (2000).  The turn of the century saw a burst of creativity: Jackson won his first Grammy (Best Pop Instrumental Album for the non-traditional\, non-orchestral Symphony No.1) and published his book A Cure For Gravity. \nIn 2003 Joe reformed the original Joe Jackson Band for a stunning new album\, Volume 4\, and a lengthy tour.  The reunion was always intended as a one-off\, but it also produced a live album\, Afterlife\, in 2004. He was also awarded a Fellowship by the Royal Academy of Music and an Honorary Doctorate by the University of Portsmouth. Having failed to happily re-establish himself in London\, he moved to Berlin\, where his next album Rain was recorded in 2007. Consisting of ten powerful\, timeless new songs\, Rain creates a surprisingly epic sound with just voices\, piano\, bass and drums. The trio toured for the next three years. A live album\, Live Music\, was released in 2011. \nIn 2012 Joe released a tribute to one of his greatest musical heroes\, Duke Ellington. The Duke is an often radical re-interpretation of fifteen Ellington classics\, arranged into ten tracks\, and featuring an eclectic roster of guest artists including Iggy Pop\, Ahmir ‘Questlove’ Thompson and other members of The Roots\, Sharon Jones\, Steve Vai\, and jazz violin star Regina Carter\, who joined Joe on the subsequent tour. In 2015\, Jackson announced the completion of his follow-up to The Duke. The album’s title\, Fast Forward\, and track list were confirmed in addition to North American tour dates. The titular first single was released for streaming via his official SoundCloud page. \nOn 18 January 2019\, Jackson released the album Fool. Jackson said about the album on his website: “One of my inspirations for this album was the band I’ve been touring with on and off for the last 3 years. I’ve had many different line-ups but this one is special.” Jackson and the band performed “Fabulously Absolute” on Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show on 21 January 2019. Fool debuted in the top 20 album charts in Holland\, Belgium\, Germany and Switzerland. In the US\, it debuted at No. 25 on Billboard’s Top Album Sales Chart. In the UK\, it entered the Indie Albums Chart at No. 13. \nAfter a Covid induced layoff Joe toured the US and Europe in 2022 for a tour named “Sing\, You Sinners!” featuring songs from his catalog plus a few select covers. The tour featured his band Graham Maby on Bass\, Teddy Kumpel on Guitar and Doug Yowell on Drums. Joe toured during 2024 touring both the US and Europe. \nApril 2026 will see the release of a new album “Hope and Fury” and extensive touring of both the US and Europe featuring a full band.

After seeing The Sex Pistols at The 100 Club\, Tom realised “the Next Big Thing probably wasn’t going to be an acoustic harmony trio” and formed a new group of his own with guitarist Danny Kustow. The Tom Robinson Band were early supporters of Rock Against Racism and went on to enjoy Top Five success with 2-4-6-8 Motorway and mild notoriety a few months later with their LGBT anthem Glad To Be Gay. Their album Power In The Darkness entered the charts at No.4. \nIn the subsequent 50 years Tom’s been mentored by Alexis Korner and Martin Carthy\, written songs with Elton John and Peter Gabriel\, toured with The Police\, Red Wedge and The Undertones\, and Rocked Against Racism alongside The Clash\, Steel Pulse and X-Ray Spex. He’s also been banned by Radio One\, bankrupt and exiled in East Berlin\, and hounded by the tabloid press for beng in love with a woman. \nMore recently he gave 10\,000+ artists their first radio airplay on his BBC Introducing shows and served for ten years on the Ivor Novello Awards committee. At age 75 Tom still enjoys a reputation among his punk contemporaries – as well as the world of acoustic/roots music – as both as a master songsmith and a funny\, ferocious live performer.

I knew what he meant. The songs just poured out almost without effort which is always a good sign.. Its a very ‘up’ record … deliberately so.” Says Robert. \n“They just recorded an album at Paul Wellers studio and it is as good as anything Dr Robert did back in the day.” Says McGee “What is unique about Blow Monkeys is bar the drummer are all original members. tour in Australia then the UK and Europe and release the album we just recorded on Creation Youth. Next year we I love this band!“ \nThese Monkeys continue to evolve. DESCRIPTION:Dharmacide are a Madrid-based band known for their eclectic fusion of shoegaze\, dream pop\, and post-punk. Their sound is characterized by intricate guitar riffs\, powerful drums\, and deep\, soulful vocals that create a unique and immersive atmosphere. Drawing influences from contemporary bands such as DIIV\, Warpaint\, and Beach House\, as well as earlier artists like Cocteau Twins\, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds\, and Tom Waits\, the group blends ethereal textures with darker\, more introspective tones. \nThe band has grown since its inception\, and some of its members are also part of other projects\, such as Depresión Sonora\, Alcalá Norte and TourJets. \nAfter several singles and performances in Paris (Supersonic) and Berlin (8MM Club)\, they released their debut LP Cult Band Member in September 2021\, whose vinyl edition is now sold out. The first half of the album was recorded in Los Angeles with producer Orchin (Hatchie\, Launder\, Tamaryn)\, and it was completed in Madrid at Alejandro Leiva’s studio (Bum Motion Club). The album was presented at Sala El Sol in Madrid with the support of Elias Bender Rønnenfelt (Iceage). \nThe strong reception of their debut led them to perform at festivals such as BBK Live\, Primavera Sound\, Eurosonic ESNS\, The New Colossus Festival in New York\, Vida Festival\, Tomavistas\, Monkey Week\, Esmorga Fest\, and Zgz Psych Fest\, among others. They have also opened for international bands such as Tess Parks\, Bodega\, and Just Mustard during their visits to Madrid. \nIn their ongoing search for the “shoe that fits Dharmacide’s size\,” the band led by René Sharrocks crossed paths with one of their reference shoemakers\, Mark Gardener (Ride)\, who produced\, mixed\, and mastered several of their latest singles at his Oxford studio\, including “Lovers” and “Horses/Divorces.” \nTheir second album\, Tougher Than The Rest\, marks a step forward for the band with a darker\, more atmospheric sound\, full of eerie riffs and ethereal vocals. DESCRIPTION:Darren Kiely’s journey with music has always been driven by something pure. When he picked up a guitar for the first time as a teenager in a small town in Co. Cork\, he did so with the hopes of simply being able to play along to the songs he loved. As he sharpened his skills\, he started to push himself further\, setting himself new challenges – learn a full cover\, play a gig\, then\, eventually\, see if he could write his own song. Throughout this years-long process\, passion and natural curiosity spurred him on. “It was never like\, ‘I’m gonna do this full time’ or ‘I want to play stadiums’\,” he recalls. “It was just one thing led to the next challenge or the next step.” \nIt’s that mindset that has led Kiely to his current position – one of the first artists to be signed to Sony Music Nashville’s non-country imprint\, Free Flight Records\, and winning legions of fans with his emotionally rich\, folk-infused music. Putting out his own music\, though\, wasn’t necessarily always on the cards for the 28-year-old. \nIn 2022\, having gradually built his way up to performing covers gigs at functions and weddings\, he was at a point where he could comfortably make a living – an enviable position\, but one that didn’t leave him fully satisfied. “Somewhere along the path\, I was like\, ‘I don’t want to play cover gigs forever\, but I do want to see if people will listen to my music’\,” he says. \nHe describes writing his own music as something of an emotional awakening. “A lot of the time\, I felt like I was drifting through life\, not really thinking about things\,” he explains. “When you write it down or make a recording and listen back to it\, it really hits you in a way where it’s almost like you’re discovering things about yourself\, but talking to yourself as well.” \nMaking the move into penning his own material was fueled by a feeling that he not only had something to say\, but that there was a value in what he wanted to express\, too. “In the music I listened to growing up\, there were loads of things I learned about myself and about life\,” Kiely says. “But I also thought\, ‘There’s some songs that have never talked about this\, or my experiences\, or how I view things.” \nSo far\, the Irish musician has proved himself right. Across his releases so far\, he’s shared a fresh perspective on timeless tales of making amends to those you’ve hurt but have stuck by you (‘Mom & Dad’) and self-doubt (‘How Could You Love Me’)\, and opened up about subjects rarely broached in music. ‘Avalon’ is a case in point for the latter – a rousing piece of folk-rock that explores the musician’s relationship with his home country and why he felt he had to leave.   “This will always be my home / I see fields of green\,” he sings. “But I can’t find a place to grow / Or the light.” \nThese days\, Kiely is based in Nashville\, but first left Ireland for New York in 2019. It was there he stumbled into playing gigs – an experience cut short by the pandemic\, which sent him back home. Once the borders re-opened\, he headed back to NYC to pick up where he left off\, securing a desk job at an accounting firm but his focus firmly on developing his artistry. “It’s a really tough place and it toughened me up an awful lot\,” he says of his time in the city. “I just got used to grafting and getting beat up a little bit by the place and coming back for more. Music’s like that – there’s a lot of great things\, but in between them\, there’s a lot of times where you’re like\, ‘Alright\, I have to go again and again’. It’s like you’re trying to write a song and it’s not as good as you want it to be\, but you have to go again.” \nAs much as New York taught him\, though\, it also left him yearning for something – a community and scene of like-minded musicians to grow and learn with. So\, in 2023\, he upped sticks to Nashville after hearing about the songwriting scene in the city. What Kiely has found since making the move is not only keeping him productive and creative\, but also aligns with his original ethos when he was first learning to play guitar. “I’m a very small fish in a big pond here\,” he smiles. “I like that. If I’m around who I think are the best\, I can try and learn a little bit from them and try and get a little bit better.” \nYou can hear that commitment to growth across his catalogue so far\, from debut single ‘How Could You Love Me’ – which landed a place on Ireland’s top 50 viral charts – to his 2023 debut EP\, ‘Lost’. The latter depicted its creator’s search for his place in both music and the world around him\, pushing through imposter syndrome and moments of uncertainty. The key to the record – its successor\, 2024’s ‘From The Dark’ EP – isn’t the moments of darkness\, though\, but the hope that lingers throughout the songs. “There’s probably a few songs that don’t have too much hope\, but there’s a tinge of it everywhere because I don’t want to wallow in anything or make things overly negative\,” he reasons. “For me\, there is that little bit of hope in every situation.” \nKiely’s upcoming music continues his knack for making distinctive folk-pop with something to say. ‘Find It In You’\, a driving\, uplifting song that finds him reassuring a partner who’s not ready for a relationship that he’ll wait for them: “Whenever your walls fall down and it’s love that you need / I hope you can find it in you to find it in me\,” he shares.  The contemplative ‘Married On My Phone’ deals with the relatable experience of witnessing someone you used to know going through big life milestones via your phone screen. “I saw someone I knew from years ago had got married via Instagram and I was just thinking\, ‘Isn’t it crazy that you see significant events of people you’ve lost touch with [like this]?’ What happens if\, one day\, you end up seeing the person in your current relationship get married on Instagram?” For Kiely\, that song is so different to anything he’s written before – and intentionally so: “I just wanted to hit the nail on the head of all the modern things I don’t really like.” \n‘Old And Grey’\, meanwhile\, harks back to his youth of playing traditional Irish music – experiences that still occasionally peek through in his music today. Midway through\, it surges with a swell of group vocals\, intertwining with a melancholy fiddle melody to create something poignant and powerful. “I don’t sing Irish folk songs really\, but I wanted to have a song that feels like it could be playing in a pub back home\, and I really want to play that fiddle part live\,” he says. \nThese songs are a testament to an artist who has always refused to get complacent or let his music become stagnant. They expand his sonic tapestry\, pushing him into new pockets of sound while keeping his core DNA intact. “I’m not a band that has the same sound for every song\,” he says. “It can sound like different things. That’s one thing that I think has changed in how I’m writing music now – it’s me\, but there’s a different sound. I think that’s important.” \nNo matter how much success Kiely has achieved so far – from gaining traction from his early self-released singles to a recent sold-out headline tour – he’s remaining true to those pure intentions he started out with. As he continues to push himself forward and give himself new challenges\, his ambitions are staying humble. “I just want to sing songs that I believe in\,” he says. “Songs that people can sense that I care about them and what I’m singing is really authentic and honest.”

DESCRIPTION:Singer-songwriter Brian Horgan hails from Enniscorthy\, the town of Colm Tobin\, Vinegar Hill\, Eileen Grey and Annie Jameson (mother to the inventor of the radio; Marconi) the River Slaney and the 10th Century historic Norman castle. \nBrian’s debut album ‘Start Again’ is rooted in the place where he grew up. He’s taught English in Europe\, worked as the Development Director in Dublin’s Abbey Theatre and has been involved in Music/Theatre/Arts all around the globe. He is also CX Director at the CX Academy and owner of Horgan Consultancy. \nHe’s home again\, for now. Not quite starting again but taking a step back and reflecting. Releasing the album he always thought he could\, and should. His songwriting and music are instinctive and well-received\, with people asking if he had anything on record? \nBrian’s passion is to sing\, to write\, to perform something unique. Something all his own. Personal\, most certainly\, but also connective and relatable. The thoughts and the sometimes travails of a lived experience. His listeners are in his songs. \nBrian’s played live with his band in sold-out shows at The Sugar Club\, No. 10 Ormond Quay\, Smock Alley\, Bewleys Café Theatre and The Abbey Theatre. Also in New York City as an invited guest performer of the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA). \nHe’s no ‘Small Voice’\, he isn’t a balladeer in the corner of your local. Not your typical ‘Singer/Songwriter’ in the typical fashion. (Much as we all love that…) There’s a bit more to Brian Horgan. He’s taken this long to create ‘Start Again’\, thought a great deal about it. He’s where it has led him and we’re invited along. \nBrian Horgan says\, “It is all simply a journey of love and experience even (or especially) in its difficult moments”.
