DESCRIPTION:Darren Kiely’s journey with music has always been driven by something pure. When he picked up a guitar for the first time as a teenager in a small town in Co. Cork\, he did so with the hopes of simply being able to play along to the songs he loved. As he sharpened his skills\, he started to push himself further\, setting himself new challenges – learn a full cover\, play a gig\, then\, eventually\, see if he could write his own song. Throughout this years-long process\, passion and natural curiosity spurred him on. “It was never like\, ‘I’m gonna do this full time’ or ‘I want to play stadiums’\,” he recalls. “It was just one thing led to the next challenge or the next step.” \nIt’s that mindset that has led Kiely to his current position – one of the first artists to be signed to Sony Music Nashville’s non-country imprint\, Free Flight Records\, and winning legions of fans with his emotionally rich\, folk-infused music. Putting out his own music\, though\, wasn’t necessarily always on the cards for the 28-year-old. \nIn 2022\, having gradually built his way up to performing covers gigs at functions and weddings\, he was at a point where he could comfortably make a living – an enviable position\, but one that didn’t leave him fully satisfied. “Somewhere along the path\, I was like\, ‘I don’t want to play cover gigs forever\, but I do want to see if people will listen to my music’\,” he says. \nHe describes writing his own music as something of an emotional awakening. “A lot of the time\, I felt like I was drifting through life\, not really thinking about things\,” he explains. “When you write it down or make a recording and listen back to it\, it really hits you in a way where it’s almost like you’re discovering things about yourself\, but talking to yourself as well.” \nMaking the move into penning his own material was fueled by a feeling that he not only had something to say\, but that there was a value in what he wanted to express\, too. “In the music I listened to growing up\, there were loads of things I learned about myself and about life\,” Kiely says. “But I also thought\, ‘There’s some songs that have never talked about this\, or my experiences\, or how I view things.” \nSo far\, the Irish musician has proved himself right. Across his releases so far\, he’s shared a fresh perspective on timeless tales of making amends to those you’ve hurt but have stuck by you (‘Mom & Dad’) and self-doubt (‘How Could You Love Me’)\, and opened up about subjects rarely broached in music. ‘Avalon’ is a case in point for the latter – a rousing piece of folk-rock that explores the musician’s relationship with his home country and why he felt he had to leave.   “This will always be my home / I see fields of green\,” he sings. “But I can’t find a place to grow / Or the light.” \nThese days\, Kiely is based in Nashville\, but first left Ireland for New York in 2019. It was there he stumbled into playing gigs – an experience cut short by the pandemic\, which sent him back home. Once the borders re-opened\, he headed back to NYC to pick up where he left off\, securing a desk job at an accounting firm but his focus firmly on developing his artistry. “It’s a really tough place and it toughened me up an awful lot\,” he says of his time in the city. “I just got used to grafting and getting beat up a little bit by the place and coming back for more. Music’s like that – there’s a lot of great things\, but in between them\, there’s a lot of times where you’re like\, ‘Alright\, I have to go again and again’. It’s like you’re trying to write a song and it’s not as good as you want it to be\, but you have to go again.” \nAs much as New York taught him\, though\, it also left him yearning for something – a community and scene of like-minded musicians to grow and learn with. So\, in 2023\, he upped sticks to Nashville after hearing about the songwriting scene in the city. What Kiely has found since making the move is not only keeping him productive and creative\, but also aligns with his original ethos when he was first learning to play guitar. “I’m a very small fish in a big pond here\,” he smiles. “I like that. If I’m around who I think are the best\, I can try and learn a little bit from them and try and get a little bit better.” \nYou can hear that commitment to growth across his catalogue so far\, from debut single ‘How Could You Love Me’ – which landed a place on Ireland’s top 50 viral charts – to his 2023 debut EP\, ‘Lost’. The latter depicted its creator’s search for his place in both music and the world around him\, pushing through imposter syndrome and moments of uncertainty. The key to the record – its successor\, 2024’s ‘From The Dark’ EP – isn’t the moments of darkness\, though\, but the hope that lingers throughout the songs. “There’s probably a few songs that don’t have too much hope\, but there’s a tinge of it everywhere because I don’t want to wallow in anything or make things overly negative\,” he reasons. “For me\, there is that little bit of hope in every situation.” \nKiely’s upcoming music continues his knack for making distinctive folk-pop with something to say. ‘Find It In You’\, a driving\, uplifting song that finds him reassuring a partner who’s not ready for a relationship that he’ll wait for them: “Whenever your walls fall down and it’s love that you need / I hope you can find it in you to find it in me\,” he shares.  The contemplative ‘Married On My Phone’ deals with the relatable experience of witnessing someone you used to know going through big life milestones via your phone screen. “I saw someone I knew from years ago had got married via Instagram and I was just thinking\, ‘Isn’t it crazy that you see significant events of people you’ve lost touch with [like this]?’ What happens if\, one day\, you end up seeing the person in your current relationship get married on Instagram?” For Kiely\, that song is so different to anything he’s written before – and intentionally so: “I just wanted to hit the nail on the head of all the modern things I don’t really like.” \n‘Old And Grey’\, meanwhile\, harks back to his youth of playing traditional Irish music – experiences that still occasionally peek through in his music today. Midway through\, it surges with a swell of group vocals\, intertwining with a melancholy fiddle melody to create something poignant and powerful. “I don’t sing Irish folk songs really\, but I wanted to have a song that feels like it could be playing in a pub back home\, and I really want to play that fiddle part live\,” he says. \nThese songs are a testament to an artist who has always refused to get complacent or let his music become stagnant. They expand his sonic tapestry\, pushing him into new pockets of sound while keeping his core DNA intact. “I’m not a band that has the same sound for every song\,” he says. “It can sound like different things. That’s one thing that I think has changed in how I’m writing music now – it’s me\, but there’s a different sound. I think that’s important.” \nNo matter how much success Kiely has achieved so far – from gaining traction from his early self-released singles to a recent sold-out headline tour – he’s remaining true to those pure intentions he started out with. As he continues to push himself forward and give himself new challenges\, his ambitions are staying humble. “I just want to sing songs that I believe in\,” he says. “Songs that people can sense that I care about them and what I’m singing is really authentic and honest.”

His listeners are in his songs. \nBrian’s played live with his band in sold-out shows at The Sugar Club\, No. 10 Ormond Quay\, Smock Alley\, Bewleys Café Theatre and The Abbey Theatre. After the tragic death of Philippe ‘Zdar’ Cerboneschi in June 2019\, the flame is burning brightly again thanks to the determination of Hubert ‘BoomBass’ Blanc-Francard\, the other member of the duo\, to revive this legendary name in the French Touch. And not just on 8 September during the Closing Ceremony of the Para Olympic Games\, the first appearance of this reinvented Cassius. The trigger for this genuine reconstruction came during the many DJ sets Hubert has performed in France and abroad in trio with his two accomplices Étienne de Crécy and Falcon over the last few months. The audience’s rapturous reactions when he played Cassius‘ hits (’Feeling For You’\, “I’m a Woman”\, “I <3 U SO” among others) convinced him that the story couldn’t end there. With the certainty that a name that still resonates on dancefloors the world over should not be allowed to fade away\, BoomBass is launching Cassius’ comeback at the end of 2024. With the release of a Best-Of on 11 October and the first Cassius Club date a few days earlier\, on 9 October at the Rex Club in Paris. This concept will soon be extended to dancefloors the world over\, where Hubert will be surrounded by his many friends as well as new talent. And there’s more surprises in store for 2025. We can’t wait. The baseline ‘Cassius rockin’ non-stop since 1999’ is back in vogue.

DESCRIPTION:Transvision Vamp were formed in West London by Wendy James and Nick Christian Sayer\, along with Dave Parsons and Tex Axile. They were signed to MCA Records by A&R legend Dave Ambrose and released their breakthrough debut album ‘Pop Art’ in 1988\, featuring hit singles such as ‘I Want Your Love’\, ‘Tell That Girl To Shut Up’ and ‘Revolution Baby’. \nSecond album ‘Velveteen’\, which included the smash hit ‘Baby I Don’t Care’\, was released the following year and reached number 1 in the UK Charts and 10 other countries around the world. Their third and final album\, ‘Little Magnets Versus The Bubble Of Babble’\, was released in 1991 and was their biggest USA release\, securing No.1 spots in all the indie and college charts. Ironically\, the album was not made available domestically in the UK until years later. \nThe band did two world tours that year\, and Kurt Cobain famously attended many of the US shows\, wearing TTV t-shirts and declaring himself a fan. Wendy cited this album as her favourite\, specifically highlighting the song ‘If Looks Could Kill’. In 1992\, Transvision Vamp called time-out in San Francisco. \nDuring the span of Transvision Vamp\, Wendy was made a cover star of many magazines worldwide\, was photographed by everyone from David Bailey for Tatler Magazine\, Jurgen Teller for The Face Magazine and i-D Magazine. DESCRIPTION:Iconic Birmingham rock band Dexys have announced details of their upcoming tour\, which includes a show in 3Olympia Theatre\, Dublin on Wednesday 4th November 2026. \n\n\nThe dates will be the first time the band\, fronted by Kevin Rowland\, have toured under the name of Dexys Midnight Runners since 2003\, when they played a sold-out show at London’s Southbank Centre. \nFounded in Birmingham in 1978\, Dexys Midnight Runners released three critically and commercially successful albums – Searching For The Young Soul Rebels (1980)\, Too-Rye-Ay (1982) & Don’t Stand Me Down (1985). The band had a string of top ten hits in the 1980s\, including two number ones\, ‘Geno’ (1980) & ‘Come on Eileen’ (1982). \nFront person Kevin Rowland would go on to release both solo and further band albums\, under the ‘Dexys’ name\, including their 2012 ‘comeback’ album\, One Day I’m Going To Soar\, which came out to widespread acclaim and 2023’s The Feminine Divine\, which made number 6 in the U.K. albums chart. Rowland\, one of the most individual and unique musical talents of the past 40 years\, recently released his memoir\, Bless Me Father. \nDexy’s Midnight Runners are working with Heavenly Recordings.

We recorded it between Belfast and the Dundalk Mountains in December when it felt like everyone else at Christmas parties. It’s an album about ego and pride\, who we tell ourselves we are\, what we tell ourselves we want\, and letting go of some of those ideas. It’s about a run in with my neighbour’s dog\, watching a funeral on TV\, wrestling with how much of yourself to share with others\, and trying to find peace in it all without needing to rip it up and start again. “I came to the realisation that I don’t need to make as much noise to take up space”

The album was recorded in Glasgow in 2023 and includes a selection of old and new songs performed by the post-1999 line-up with Paul McLoone on vocals. \nTHE UNDERTONES – Part 1 – 1976 – 1983\nThe Undertones emerged from Derry in 1976\, the result of five friends (John O’Neill\, Damian O’Neill\, Feargal Sharkey\, Billy Doherty and Michael Bradley) learning how to play basic rock and roll. \nEven by the standards of that decade Derry was not the rock and roll capital of anywhere. With no live bands worth watching\, they learned by listening to mail order records\, reading one of the few copies of NME that made it to Derry but most of all from listening to John Peel’s wonderful show on BBC Radio One. Practicing in their bedrooms eventually led to the band recording John O’Neill’s ‘Teenage Kicks’ in 1978 on Terri Hooley’s Good Vibrations label in Belfast. The legendary DJ John Peel received a copy and liked it so much he played it twice in a row on his radio show. \nThe Undertones signed with Sire Records and ‘Teenage Kicks’ was re-released\, resulting in the band’s first appearance on Top of the Pops. Over the next five years\, John O Neill\, crafted further pop gems such as `Here Comes The Summer`\, ‘Jimmy Jimmy`\, `You’ve Got My Number (Why Don’t You Use It)’ and ‘Wednesday Week’ whilst Damian O’Neill and Michael Bradley contributed ‘My Perfect Cousin. They also recorded four highly acclaimed LPs. Indeed\, they almost enjoyed the life of professional musicians. In 1983 Feargal Sharkey left the band to pursue a solo career and the remaining members decided to call it a day. The Undertones were to remain silent for the next sixteen years. \nTHE UNDERTONES – Part 2 – 1999 –\nIn 1999 The Undertones reconvened\, without Feargal Sharkey\, to once again perform their two-minute\, three and a half chord songs to a new generation of fans in Derry and around the World…Fellow Derryman Paul McLoone replaced Sharkey on vocals and his vocal prowess and electric onstage presence soon convinced any doubters that he was more than capable of doing the job. \nAfter much consideration the band released an LP of new songs called `Get What You Need’\, which was critically acclaimed by Q magazine\, Uncut\, Rolling Stone and Hot Press. Songs like ‘Thrill Me’\, ‘I Need Your Love The Way It Used To Be’ and ‘Everything But You’ showed that the art of writing short\, sharp songs had not been lost over the previous two decades. \nIn 2003 ‘Thrill Me’ was released as a limited edition 7” vinyl single and found its way to John Peel’s turntable. He introduced it on his show commenting\, “And these are words I thought I would never be saying on radio again\, a new single from The Undertones”. He liked it so much he played it twice\, just as he did with ‘Teenage Kicks’ in 1978. \nIn 2016 the Band released vinyl remasters of ther first two LPs; ‘The Undertones – The Undertones’ and ‘The Undertones – Hypnotised’ along with a 7” vinyl remix of the 1979 single ‘Get Over You’. Remixed by Kevin Shields (My Bloody Valentine/Primal Scream). Michael Bradley also published his book Teenage Kicks: My Life as An Undertone’. \n2018 marked the 40th Anniversary of the release of their most influential and famous song\, ’Teenage Kicks’.  On 21st April for Record Store Day 2018 the band released a Vinyl Singles Box Set containing the 13 x 7” original Undertones singles from the classic early period: 1978-1983.
