DESCRIPTION:Common Ground: Ireland and the EU is a new multimedia exhibition exploring how Ireland’s membership of the European Union has shaped the country socially\, culturally and economically over the past few decades. The exhibition also looks at the impact Ireland has had across Europe\, telling stories of migration\, opportunity\, equality\, education and cultural exchange through immersive displays and personal stories. \n  \n\n\nIreland joined the European Economic Community (EEC) – as the EU was then known – on January 1\, 1973\, after a referendum endorsed by 83% of voters. It was then among the poorest and most underdeveloped countries in western Europe\, with a population just over half of its current size. \nIreland’s accession proved to be the most consequential economic milestone in the half century since Irish independence\, but it also set in motion far-reaching social and cultural change. EU legislation has driven improvements in workers’ rights\, for example\, and set binding targets for climate action. Irish people have studied and built new lives across Europe\, while many Europeans have since made their homes here in Ireland. \nAs Ireland assumes the EU presidency in 2026\, this new multimedia exhibition explores how a small island nation has extended its influence across Europe\, and how Europe\, in turn\, has profoundly shaped modern Ireland. \nFeatured Stories:\nEqual Pay \nStudying Abroad \nAn Ghaeilge \nEntry to this exhibition is included in general admission tickets.

No booking is required and are on a free and first come\, first served basis. Meet in the Reception\, on the ground floor. Wheelchair accessible. She rose to critical acclaim from her debut album First Prize Bravery\, which was an evocative depiction of young adulthood\, a time during which she ventured from home in Dublin to New York\, Los Angeles and back again. Her follow up album Smiling Like an Idiot cemented her status as one of Ireland’s most revered songwriters and saw her tour North America\, Europe and Australia\, both as a headliner and as a special guest for artists such as Snow Patrol\, Mitski and Dermot Kennedy. \nShe returns this September 2026 with her third album\, Draw The Outline. Made after relocating to West Kerry\, it’s her most intimate and reflective record to date – trading synth-led textures for acoustic guitar\, woodwinds\, saxophone\, Hammond organ and piano\, and turning her gaze inward. \nBrigid Mae Power (27th August)\n \nBrigid Mae Power’s music never quite settles on solid ground. The Irish singer-songwriter sits between past and present\, between traditional and modern forms\, between the heaven in her voice and the earthbound epiphanies of her words. There’s something distinctively Irish in her sound\, delivered with a freshness and emotional rawness that feels entirely her own. \nShe’s released three albums to date\, including her acclaimed 2022 record Head Above the Water\, which was Rough Trade’s Album of the Month and earned praise from Pitchfork\, Mojo\, Uncut\, The Guardian and The Irish Times. Her albums blend traditional folk and country into something that feels both personal and wide-reaching. \nHer most recent record\, Songs for You\, is a heartfelt collection of covers dedicated to her father\, reworking songs by Roy Orbison\, Tom Verlaine\, Neil Young and Cass McCombs into something minimal\, intimate and entirely her own. \nEfé (24th September)\n \nEFÉ is an Irish artist hailing from Dublin. EFÉ released her debut EP What Should We Do This Summer in October 2020 which was recorded in her bedroom with the help of her friends. Her music is a sunny slice of bedroom pop\, evoking images of blue skies on a summer’s day using shimmering synth pads and funky\, modulated guitar tones. EFÉ sets herself apart from other artists with the unique and playful groove that provides the grounding for her DIY style\, and definitely marks her as one to watch from the emerging Irish scene. Her music is effortlessly nostalgic\, pulling on indie-tinged memories of the late 1990s and early 2000s. \nAfter signing to US label Fader; home to artists such as Clairo – she leaned further into her rock influences for her most recent single releases in 2024\, Truth Truth\, 2000Seven and you say that I’m crazy\, lo-fi indie tracks that make space for guitars to soar. As she puts it\, “In earlier projects I was scared to go full force with the rock sound\, but this year I thought\, let me just do it.” \nSaoirse Miller (29th October)\n \nSaoirse Miller is a Dublin-based singer-songwriter and producer whose music is rooted in Irish folklore and mythology and a lifelong fascination with the otherworldly. Her sound – spanning experimental folk\, ambient textures and ethereal vocal production – is less about genre and more about world-building\, creating somewhere else entirely to disappear into. \nInfluenced by Florence and the Machine\, Grouper\, Lisa O’Neill and the poetry of W.B. Yeats\, Saoirse writes songs that transform personal feeling into something mythic. Her connection to place runs deep – her grandparents are from Mizen Head in West Cork\, and it’s a landscape she returns to again and again\, in her music as much as in life. \nHer debut EP\, Birds\, was written and produced entirely by Saoirse herself\, with each track designed to blend and interlude into the next as one continuous body of work. Her sets are genre-spanning by design\, moving fluidly between afrobeat\, techno and dubstep\, with a strong undercurrent of retro and psychedelic sound that gives her selections a relatability for all. As the sun sets\, the family must confront a series of crises\, from cyber-scams and drug debts to long-buried grievances about a mother who once walked away. \n“Why must the words vulnerable and old always go together?” \nOpening on 30 September\, with previews from 25 September. It runs till 1 November.  \n  \n  \nABOUT THE WRITER:\nERICA MURRAY \nErica is from County Limerick\, Ireland. She holds a BA in Drama and Theatre Studies from Trinity College Dublin and an MFA in Playwriting from The Lir Academy. While in college\, she wrote her first play called Bunk which won the Irish Student Drama Award for Best New Writing. She is a previous member of the Soho Theatre Young Writers Group\, Lyric New Playwright’s Programme and the Six in the Attic programme at Irish Theatre Institute. \nIn 2018\, her play; The Cat’s Mother\, toured to London\, Edinburgh and Dublin Fringe where it won the Fishamble Award for Best New Writing and was subsequently nominated for the Stewart Parker Trust Award. \nIn 2019\, she was the Channel 4 Writer-in-Residence at The Lyric Theatre in Belfast where her second play All Mod Cons premiered. The new play she wrote while on this residency won the Sonia Friedman Award. \nHer play The Loved Ones premiered at the Dublin Theatre Festival 2023 in a co-production between Rough Magic and The Gate Theatre to critical acclaim. It was remounted in 2025 and went on an Irish national tour. \nIn 2024\, she wrote a play for young audiences for The Abbey Theatre called In Real Life which has been performed across many primary and secondary schools around Ireland. It is currently touring again this May.\nThe Loved Ones has been recently produced in Buffalo at the Irish Classical Theatre Company and is currently about to be produced at the Irish Repertory Theatre in New York. \nErica currently has a residency at the National Theatre Studio in London.

DESCRIPTION:Darren Kiely’s journey with music has always been driven by something pure. When he picked up a guitar for the first time as a teenager in a small town in Co. Cork\, he did so with the hopes of simply being able to play along to the songs he loved. As he sharpened his skills\, he started to push himself further\, setting himself new challenges – learn a full cover\, play a gig\, then\, eventually\, see if he could write his own song. Throughout this years-long process\, passion and natural curiosity spurred him on. “It was never like\, ‘I’m gonna do this full time’ or ‘I want to play stadiums’\,” he recalls. “It was just one thing led to the next challenge or the next step.” \nIt’s that mindset that has led Kiely to his current position – one of the first artists to be signed to Sony Music Nashville’s non-country imprint\, Free Flight Records\, and winning legions of fans with his emotionally rich\, folk-infused music. Putting out his own music\, though\, wasn’t necessarily always on the cards for the 28-year-old. \nIn 2022\, having gradually built his way up to performing covers gigs at functions and weddings\, he was at a point where he could comfortably make a living – an enviable position\, but one that didn’t leave him fully satisfied. “Somewhere along the path\, I was like\, ‘I don’t want to play cover gigs forever\, but I do want to see if people will listen to my music’\,” he says. \nHe describes writing his own music as something of an emotional awakening. “A lot of the time\, I felt like I was drifting through life\, not really thinking about things\,” he explains. “When you write it down or make a recording and listen back to it\, it really hits you in a way where it’s almost like you’re discovering things about yourself\, but talking to yourself as well.” \nMaking the move into penning his own material was fueled by a feeling that he not only had something to say\, but that there was a value in what he wanted to express\, too. “In the music I listened to growing up\, there were loads of things I learned about myself and about life\,” Kiely says. “But I also thought\, ‘There’s some songs that have never talked about this\, or my experiences\, or how I view things.” \nSo far\, the Irish musician has proved himself right. Across his releases so far\, he’s shared a fresh perspective on timeless tales of making amends to those you’ve hurt but have stuck by you (‘Mom & Dad’) and self-doubt (‘How Could You Love Me’)\, and opened up about subjects rarely broached in music. ‘Avalon’ is a case in point for the latter – a rousing piece of folk-rock that explores the musician’s relationship with his home country and why he felt he had to leave.   “This will always be my home / I see fields of green\,” he sings. “But I can’t find a place to grow / Or the light.” \nThese days\, Kiely is based in Nashville\, but first left Ireland for New York in 2019. It was there he stumbled into playing gigs – an experience cut short by the pandemic\, which sent him back home. Once the borders re-opened\, he headed back to NYC to pick up where he left off\, securing a desk job at an accounting firm but his focus firmly on developing his artistry. “It’s a really tough place and it toughened me up an awful lot\,” he says of his time in the city. “I just got used to grafting and getting beat up a little bit by the place and coming back for more. Music’s like that – there’s a lot of great things\, but in between them\, there’s a lot of times where you’re like\, ‘Alright\, I have to go again and again’. It’s like you’re trying to write a song and it’s not as good as you want it to be\, but you have to go again.” \nAs much as New York taught him\, though\, it also left him yearning for something – a community and scene of like-minded musicians to grow and learn with. So\, in 2023\, he upped sticks to Nashville after hearing about the songwriting scene in the city. What Kiely has found since making the move is not only keeping him productive and creative\, but also aligns with his original ethos when he was first learning to play guitar. “I’m a very small fish in a big pond here\,” he smiles. “I like that. If I’m around who I think are the best\, I can try and learn a little bit from them and try and get a little bit better.” \nYou can hear that commitment to growth across his catalogue so far\, from debut single ‘How Could You Love Me’ – which landed a place on Ireland’s top 50 viral charts – to his 2023 debut EP\, ‘Lost’. The latter depicted its creator’s search for his place in both music and the world around him\, pushing through imposter syndrome and moments of uncertainty. The key to the record – its successor\, 2024’s ‘From The Dark’ EP – isn’t the moments of darkness\, though\, but the hope that lingers throughout the songs. “There’s probably a few songs that don’t have too much hope\, but there’s a tinge of it everywhere because I don’t want to wallow in anything or make things overly negative\,” he reasons. “For me\, there is that little bit of hope in every situation.” \nKiely’s upcoming music continues his knack for making distinctive folk-pop with something to say. ‘Find It In You’\, a driving\, uplifting song that finds him reassuring a partner who’s not ready for a relationship that he’ll wait for them: “Whenever your walls fall down and it’s love that you need / I hope you can find it in you to find it in me\,” he shares.  The contemplative ‘Married On My Phone’ deals with the relatable experience of witnessing someone you used to know going through big life milestones via your phone screen. “I saw someone I knew from years ago had got married via Instagram and I was just thinking\, ‘Isn’t it crazy that you see significant events of people you’ve lost touch with [like this]?’ What happens if\, one day\, you end up seeing the person in your current relationship get married on Instagram?” For Kiely\, that song is so different to anything he’s written before – and intentionally so: “I just wanted to hit the nail on the head of all the modern things I don’t really like.” \n‘Old And Grey’\, meanwhile\, harks back to his youth of playing traditional Irish music – experiences that still occasionally peek through in his music today. Midway through\, it surges with a swell of group vocals\, intertwining with a melancholy fiddle melody to create something poignant and powerful. “I don’t sing Irish folk songs really\, but I wanted to have a song that feels like it could be playing in a pub back home\, and I really want to play that fiddle part live\,” he says. \nThese songs are a testament to an artist who has always refused to get complacent or let his music become stagnant. They expand his sonic tapestry\, pushing him into new pockets of sound while keeping his core DNA intact. “I’m not a band that has the same sound for every song\,” he says. “It can sound like different things. That’s one thing that I think has changed in how I’m writing music now – it’s me\, but there’s a different sound. I think that’s important.” \nNo matter how much success Kiely has achieved so far – from gaining traction from his early self-released singles to a recent sold-out headline tour – he’s remaining true to those pure intentions he started out with. As he continues to push himself forward and give himself new challenges\, his ambitions are staying humble. “I just want to sing songs that I believe in\,” he says. “Songs that people can sense that I care about them and what I’m singing is really authentic and honest.”
