DESCRIPTION:This new temporary exhibition within EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum asks how the millions of Irish people in England have fared over the past 200 years. Based on landmark economic history research using new big data analysis\, it tracks the wealth\, health\, and living standards of Irish migrants and families of Irish descent\, showing that the Irish were substantially poorer than their English neighbours for generations. \nNo Irish Need Apply? highlights the extraordinary contribution Irish women and men have made to the English economy and wider society through their hard work\, vibrant culture\, and political activism. The exhibition also includes the words and music of Irish migrants in England captured in Philip Donnellan’s 1965 film “The Irishmen”\, in collaboration with the Irish Film Institute. \nThe exhibition has been developed by the Department of Economic History at the London School of Economics & Political Science from research by Professor Neil Cummins and Professor Cormac Ó Gráda (UCD). It has been curated by Dr Christoper Kissane\, Engagement & Impact Lead\, LSE Dept of Economic History.

Formed in 2012 across a kitchen table in their native Bristol\, they bonded over a passion for traditional maritime folk music\, interwoven with a wry humour\, a taste for all things digital. and a flair for their own songwriting – ancient meets modern down by the docks.The Longest Johns have now announced a headline Academy\, Dublin show for Friday\, 8th May 2026. \nTickets from €29.00 (inc booking fee & venue facility fee) from Ticketmaster.ie on. Bookings subject to 12.5% service charge per ticket (max €10.50) \nConstant gigging over land and sea\, coupled with a rare command of social media and a string of quality releases saw them build a devoted fanbase at home and abroad. Their breakout moment came in 2021\, when their rendition of ‘Wellerman’ went viral on TikTok\, sparking the ‘Shanty Tok’ craze that became a global resurgence in sea shanty music and saw the band sign to Decca Records. \nThis year\, they have released their tenth album to round up the Pieces of Eight project – an EP a month for eight months culminating in the 24-track compilation. In the next 12 months they’ll continue to take folk music back to its roots by many routes\, playing more than 100 shows across the UK\, Europe\, North America and Australia. \nTheir love of heritage and tradition runs deep – in 2024 they released the fan-funded album Voyage with its companion book of original short stories\, artwork and lyrics. However\, as digital natives and avid gamers\, The Longest Johns were overjoyed to play at the opening of the 2025 Pokémon Europe International Championships where they debuted a new track\, Face the World\, written especially for the event. \nWith a strong digital presence boasting over 500\,000 YouTube subscribers and nearly 700\,000 monthly Spotify listeners\, they’ve also released a 20-track album of sea shanties digitally retooled in Chiptune\, taken part in the annual Jingle Jam hosted by gaming stream The Yogscast\, and share their own video games on YouTube and Twitch @LongestJohnsGaming. \nThe band have toured extensively across the UK\, North America\, and Europe\, as well as Australia and New Zealand. SUMMARY:Formal and Wild Landscapes by Fergus Martin
DESCRIPTION:Curated by Dr. Margarita Cappock \nAbout the exhibition\n‘Formal and Wild  Landscapes’ by Fergus Martin can be described as an exhibition of illusions and dreams.  It incorporates sculpture\, animation\, photographic prints and sound projections that connect at an emotional and subliminal level. \nEvery aspect of the exhibition\, from its commencement in the cube space to the culmination in the upper gallery\, provides the viewer with an invisible kinetic experience as the art works ‘ping’ against each other and relate sequentially to what the viewer will encounter next.   The animation has as its starting point an idea the artist had for a sculpture in a landscape and has taken on another life in the virtual world – a fantastical version of a pastoral scene. \nMartin notes\, ‘It was sparked by my always seeing hay bales from trains. They always seem mysterious to me scattered over the landscape and make me think of how leprechauns fooled people who wanted their gold by placing rocks or hawthorn trees everywhere.  These hay bales appear to have landed from space and sit there day and night in every season.’ Some of the works in this exhibition have featured in a recent exhibition at the magnificent early eighteenth-century Palazzo Birago in Turin in 2025.    Visitors now can view these works from an entirely different perspective here in the contemporary setting of the Lab gallery in Dublin. \nAbout the artist\nFergus Martin is an Irish painter\, sculptor and photographer\, known for his post-minimlaist aesthetic.  His most recent solo exhibitions were Space – New Prints – at Green On Red Gallery \, Dublin and Formal and Wild  – Landscapes at Palazzo Birago\, Turin\, Italy\, in Dublin.  Also in 2025\, he took part in the group exhibitions CAIM at Slane Castle\, curated by Jenn Ellis and Matilda Liu\, and Factory Made at Green On Red Gallery\, Dublin. \nIn 2020 Martin’s sculpture\, Oak\, was installed at the International Criminal Court in The Hague\, a gift from the Irish Government to the court; a new permanent sculpture\, Barrel was installed in the grounds of the Irish Museum of Modern Art\, Dublin.  Also in 2020\, his large-scale photograph\,Chair\, was purchased by the National Gallery of Ireland. \nMartin is a member of Aosdana and is represented by Green On Red Gallery\, Dublin. \n

SUMMARY:Kathy Prendergast: Stasis Field | Dublin by Dusk
DESCRIPTION:Kerlin Gallery is pleased to present Stasis Field\, an exhibition of sculpture\, work on paper and installation by Kathy Prendergast. \n  \n\n\n\n\nStasis Field features a selection of sculpture\, work on paper and installation\, offering an intimate experience that intertwines memory\, transformation\, and the passage of time. Prendergast uses an array of textile\, chalk\, stone\, fabric\, wool and found objects to create art that resonates on both personal and universal levels. \nSince the beginning of her career\, maps have been a core element of Prendergast’s practice. Reimagining maps through artistic intervention\, Prendergast subverts historic symbols of power\, identity and exploration\, creating works that reflect more personal and emotional narratives. Included in Stasis Field are hand-coloured works which invite viewers to reflect on human connections to land\, borders\, and the histories they carry. Pigmented chalk\, gouache and watercolour create a saturated geological installation\, merging hand sculpted objects with collected cartography. In Stasis unites the physical and emotional\, featuring a collection of colourful hand-painted volcanic maps\, creating a kaleidoscopic reinterpretation of the peaks Chimbarazo to Mount Kenya. Through colour\, the static arial views radiate an energetic sense of movement. In Comet\, rust coloured string radiates from an encased roll of fabric and wool. A carefully placed pattern of stones sit on the webbed string\, some like small anchors\, others seemingly guiding the material further. Elsewhere against the gallery wall\, a painted red branch stretches three metres high\, coupled with a vibrant painted arial of Cotopaxi\, Ecudaor.

SUMMARY:William Blake: The age of Romantic Fantasy | Dublin by Dusk
DESCRIPTION:William Blake\, a visionary artist and poet\, was a defining force in Romanticism. His imaginative and unconventional works continue to inspire today. This exhibition\, curated by Tate in partnership with the National Gallery of Ireland\, presents a selection of Blake’s most iconic works of art\, alongside paintings and drawings by his contemporaries. \nBlake’s world was one of fantasy\, imagination\, and the ancient past\, filled with fantastical creatures and visions of the underworld\, expressed through a wide variety of media. By placing him in context – among the artists he admired and those he inspired – the exhibition offers insight into an era of extraordinary originality and innovation in late-eighteenth and early nineteenth-century art. Featuring over 100 works\, including by James Barry (1741–1806)\, Henry Fuseli (1741–1825)\, John Hamilton Mortimer (1740–1779)\, Thomas Rowlandson (1757–1827)\, and J.M.W. DESCRIPTION:Guides from the James Joyce Centre take you through Dublin\, exploring the history of the city and the various locations described by Ireland’s greatest writer\, James Joyce.\n\nThough Joyce lived most of his life outside of Ireland\, Dublin would provide the backdrop for virtually all of his work. On a stroll around the inner city\, our guide will explain the real-life inspiration behind some of Joyce’s most celebrated writing\, demonstrating just how central the streetscape of the ‘Hibernian metropolis’ was to the author’s life and art. The tour visits such stops as Belvedere College\, the Gresham Hotel\, the James Joyce Statue\, Davy Byrnes\, and the National Library.\n\nThis is an excellent and fun introduction to Joyce in a bustling part of the city.\n\nThe James Joyce Centre offers two tours: Introducing Joyce’s Dublin and Footsteps of Leopold Bloom.\n\nEvery Thursday\, Friday & Saturday at 11 am. DESCRIPTION:In April 2025 the Nightingales released a new album “The Awful Truth” and were due to embark on a UK tour shortly afterwards before a serious illness interjected and fucked up the year’s plans. The album came out via Fire Records who were responsible for the deluxe reissues of the band’s earlier records plus the “King Rocker” movie by Stewart Lee but “The Awful Truth” was the first all new album for the label.Recorded in a remote spot in the old DDR\, the album contains 13 songs produced by the band’s bassist Andreas Schmid and comes packaged in a beautiful sleeve featuring a painting by Tomasso Salini.It is the Nightingales’ first release since September 2023’s “Live In Balsall Heath”\, a (now sold out) limited edition double LP which is an unadulterated 68 minute document of a live show that the ‘Gales played in Birmingham\, augmented by guest musicians\, including sax god Terry Edwards. Following a fairly fallow 2024/25 the glorious Gales are ready to rock n roll afresh in 2026. When it came time to create her third album\, the Nashville-based musician leaned into her lifelong love of musical theater and dreamed up a modern-day reimagining of the soundtrack to her all-time favorite musical\, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Oklahoma! \n  \nThe result: a high-concept but candidly autobiographical LP called Roadrunner!\, whose 17 powerhouse songs show the full force and extraordinary depth of Butts’ artistry for the very first time. \n  \n“Every summer when I was a kid my parents would take me to see a performance of Oklahoma! at a local amphitheater\, and I’ve felt such a strong connection to it my entire life\,” says Butts\, who first conceptualized Roadrunner! during a pandemic rewatching of the film with her husband\, Flatland Cavalry frontman Cleto Cordero. “It’s a love story\, but there’s also a murder and a little bit of an acid-trippy feel to it at times; it’s set in the same place where I come from. Once I got the idea for this album\, I couldn’t believe I hadn’t thought of it before\, and it turned into something that completely encompasses who I am and what I love.” \n  \nProduced by Oran Thornton (Brent Cobb\, Logan Brill)\, Roadrunner! marks a major tonal shift from Butts’ 2022 sophomore LP What Else Can She Do\, a character-driven exploration of complex matters like addiction\, domestic violence\, and generational trauma. \n  \n“With the last album\, I wanted to write about the struggles I’d seen people go through or experienced myself\, so a lot of the songs had a sadness or darkness to them\,” she says. “I feel like Roadrunner! is much closer to what I’m like onstage\, where there’s real emotion and truth but also humor and a tendency to poke fun. It’s all those different versions of me at once.” \n  \nMade with A-list musicians like multi-instrumentalists Russ Pahl (Sturgill Simpson\, Kacey Musgraves) and Lex Price (Miranda Lambert\, Parker McCollum)\, Roadrunner! ultimately matches that multidimensionality with a lush and fiery sound informed by Butts’ eclectic influences (outlaw country\, strong-minded country-pop\, timeless rock-and-roll\, and more). \n  \nAs Butts reveals\, the making of Roadrunner! served as an essential milestone in her journey as an artist\, allowing for the fullest expression yet of the larger-than-life vision she’s long brought to her work (e.g.\, her cinematic videos\, high-wattage stage presence\, exquisitely curated costumes reflecting her fondness for sequins and fringe). \n  \n“Some artists get up onstage in their T-shirts and jeans and do their thing\, but what comes naturally to me is the drama and going that extra mile to try to create an immersive experience\,” she says. “The more I pull from my musical-theater background\, the more emboldened I am. The 10-track project embeds the listener into duendita’s spellbinding realm and follows the lauded EP the mind is a miracle released in 2024. \na strong desire to survive was born from duendita’s transformative experience during their first extended trip to Berlin where they first met longtime collaborators Noah Becker and Anton Remy. “We would jam all the time at Baketown\, our recording studio and art space in Schoenberg. It was an era where I’d write on their beats or at the piano\, and I couldn’t stop writing about the pain\,” they share\, “all these bangers came out about how badly I wanted to live and overcome it all.” a strong desire to survive includes the previously shared track “baby teeth\,” which includes a sample of 9 vocalists\, singing in harmony as a choir – all recorded in duendita’s bedroom\, along with the track “cutie.” The upcoming project’s visual direction is equally as poignant as its musical heart. duendita enlisted friend and artist Kiyomi Taylor to create the cover art\, which features an image of a deep-sea creature who has adapted to survive in the most grotesque way. “She’s grown long nails\, gills\, scales\, and killer teeth\, just to survive.
