SUMMARY:James Joyce Centre Walking Tours
DESCRIPTION:Guides from the James Joyce Centre take you through Dublin\, exploring the history of the city and the various locations described by Ireland’s greatest writer\, James Joyce.\n\nThough Joyce lived most of his life outside of Ireland\, Dublin would provide the backdrop for virtually all of his work. On a stroll around the inner city\, our guide will explain the real-life inspiration behind some of Joyce’s most celebrated writing\, demonstrating just how central the streetscape of the ‘Hibernian metropolis’ was to the author’s life and art. The tour visits such stops as Belvedere College\, the Gresham Hotel\, the James Joyce Statue\, Davy Byrnes\, and the National Library.\n\nThis is an excellent and fun introduction to Joyce in a bustling part of the city.\n\nThe James Joyce Centre offers two tours: Introducing Joyce’s Dublin and Footsteps of Leopold Bloom.\n\nEvery Thursday\, Friday & Saturday at 11 am. Duration 2 hours.\n\nAdmission to the James Joyce Centre is included. \nThe James Joyce Centre is supported by the Department of Culture\, Communications and Sport.

SUMMARY:The Magic Glasses | Dublin By Dusk
DESCRIPTION:The year is 1913\, but like a contemporary phone-addicted teenager\, Jaymoney Shanahan spends his days up in the loft staring into his magic glasses\, hearing strange music and seeing incredible visions. \nHis distraught parents finally call in the fabled Morgan Quille\, hoping he can cure this incurable of his wicked ways. Is Quille a genuine faith healer or a fake of a quack doctor? What will happen when a violent exorcism is attempted in this Kerry country kitchen? \nWith riotous humour\, language of astonishing richness\, and the highest of hi-jinx\, The Magic Glasses is a mini-masterpiece by this under-celebrated playwright\, a Kerry magician of singular genius\, George Fitzmaurice. \nDon’t miss the rare chance to see this glorious gem of a play.

While the sound quality may not be pristine\, the decision to release this compilation of songs on vinyl was made to preserve the raw\, authentic atmosphere that has come to define Freddie’s gigs. \n“Each crackle and pop on the vinyl tells a story\,” says Freddie White. The imperfections mirror the journey\, the passion and the connection between the music and the audience. It’s a sonic time machine that captures the very essence of those magical nights. \n‘The Accidental Album’ is a collection of audience favourites that have not featured on White’s previous albums. A veritable collector’s item\, offering fans a chance to own a piece of Freddie White’s musical history. A rare artifact that encapsulates at least a sample of the soul-stirring brilliance of Freddie White’s live performances.

SUMMARY:Dirty Blond
DESCRIPTION:Corey Sanders\, aka Dirty Blond\, stepped up to the mic at a recent sold-out gig with a grin and a warning. ‘Are you having a good night? Good — because I’m going to ruin it.’ The crowd laughed. Then he played. And instead of killing the mood\, he tightened it —a roomful of strangers locked into the same feeling\, singing back every bruised lyric like it belonged to them. \nThat’s the trick: the heavier the heartbreak\, the stronger the connection. In Corey’s hands\, melancholia doesn’t isolate \, it unites. That tension — sorrow turning into connection — sits at the heart of Dirty Blond. The songs are bruised and vulnerable\, but in a live setting they feel expansive\, even euphoric. There’s comfort in the candour\, in the shared recognition of something difficult but true. It’s no surprise that audiences keep growing\, both in rooms and online. Hailing from Wales — ‘the land of music and magic\,’ as he fondly calls it — Corey has been steadily building towards this moment. \nWith an album due later this year\, he’s been sharing a run of stripped-back sad songs on TikTok\, quietly amassing tens of millions of likes and an increasingly devoted following. The online rise tells one story. The real one\, though\, is happening in real time\, in packed-out venues where heartbreak somehow makes everyone feel a little less alone. The John Lennon adage ‘Life is what happens when you’re making other plans’ landed hard for Corey after his relationship fell apart. He had bought a home and a ring while his partner was quietly making plans of her own\, ultimately leaving for the United States. \nRaised in Bridgend\, Corey describes a happy childhood\, loving parents\, and a close bond with his brother. Yet he still refers to his hometown as ‘a place where there are monsters under the bed.’ Though the coal mine closures occurred long before he was born\, their impact rippled through generations\, compounded by more recent tragedies that cast long shadows over the community. At school\, Corey wasn’t academically inclined\, but music offered a way out. He taught himself piano and guitar\, writing songs from the age of twelve. When a teacher explained he could earn a GCSE through song writing\, it was revelatory. ‘Until then\, I felt like there was no way of getting out\,’ he admits\, reflecting on the creative constraints of a working-class town weighed down by low expectations. \nAt fourteen\, he formed his first band. By seventeen\, he had signed a publishing deal. At eighteen\, he moved to north London\, living in a garage for two years on stacked mattresses while friends occupied the house above. After a breakup with his school sweetheart\, he wrote ‘You Are the Reason’ — the cinematic tearjerker that would become a global hit for Calum Scott. Many song writing successes followed. Today\, Corey’s songs have amassed more than nine billion streams\, but now he’s ready to step out from the studio and into the spotlight. So why the sadness? And is it personal\, or cultural? ‘It’s the DNA of where I grew up — trapped in its melancholia\,’ he says. ‘In Wales\, people sing in pubs\, but they don’t jump around like they do in Ireland.’ \nReflecting now\, Corey sees his roots differently. ‘I spent my whole life trying to escape. Now I see it as something beautiful and damaged. I want to write songs for the people — to give them new songs to sing in the pub\, after they’ve finished Delilah.’ Healed from the end of his last relationship\, Corey has since found love again. Alongside the sadness\, the album also holds space for songs that don’t deny the damage — but still dare to open the door once more. Ultimately\, these songs are about storytelling as catharsis: shared pain\, nostalgia\, healing — and the hope that quietly emerges in the aftermath.

SUMMARY:Metronome: Dublin Modular
DESCRIPTION:Folding Waves & Genevieve Howard \nTadhg Kinsella\nSonia Killmann  \nAn evening where modular and hardware electronics fuse with acoustic instrumentation and immersive digital art. Curated as a celebration of queer identity\, experimentation\, and collaboration\, this event brings together some of Ireland’s most exciting electro-acoustic artists. Expect performances to blur genres\, sounds and worlds. A vibrant snapshot of Ireland’s evolving electronic music landscape and grassroots communities. \nFolding Waves is an international award-winning creative audio studio based in Dublin. Comprising a small team of sound designers\, composers and mix engineers\, united by their shared enthusiasm for the symbiotic relationship between sound and moving image. \nBorne from their collaboration for ICADs Reverb event (part of Irish Design Week 2025)\, Folding Waves will be performing alongside multidisciplinary artist\, designer and musician Genevieve Howard – live processing her spontaneous harp gestures through a Eurorack modular synthesiser. \nThis\, with accompaniment from Folding Waves’ own Mark Bergin on heavily effected Banjo\, creates a sonically rich\, and texturally dense improvisational soundscape – harkening back to Ireland’s cultural music tradition through a distinctly modernist lens. \nTadhg Kinsella is a queer Dublin-based sound artist\, classically trained percussionist\, and composer whose work blends acoustic performance with experimental electronic practices.\nSpecialising in modular synthesis\, haptic sound devices\, and percussion elements. Tadhg’s practice spans contemporary classical music\, sound art\, and immersive installation. Their work explores the meeting point of sound\, technology\, and urban space\, often drawing on lived experiences; queer identity\, disability and grief to shape compositional and performative approaches. Deeply engaged in Ireland’s contemporary/experimental arts through grassroots\, queer & disability communities. \nTadhg’s compositions have recently been performed and exhibited in Berlin\, Bristol\, Romania and Stockholm\, with past performances at international masterclasses and concert halls across the United States\, Colombia\, and Europe. In Ireland\, their work has been presented at Project Arts Centre\, the RHA Gallery\, Smock Alley Theatre\, and IMRO for NMDX. \nSonia Killmann is an international saxophone player and electronic musician. They have performed across the UK and Europe and are collaborating closely with Cryptic Glasgow as a Cryptic artist\, working in immersive installations and audiovisual performance. Sonia’s work treads the boundaries between the familiar and the unfamiliar by merging organic and synthetic sound worlds. Sonia has been exploring Pauline Oliveros’ Deep Listening concepts through circular breathing and adapting environments in the context of live performance. \nPresented by NCH

Live music\, strange stories and Neck Oil in the heart of Dublin. \n\n\n\nBeavertown is bringing Soundtrack Stories to Dublin this June – a two-night celebration of live music\, storytelling and the strange magic that happens when a room full of cool people get together over a pint. \nInspired by Ireland’s rich pub culture\, we’re taking over Egan’s and The Globe\, where the crowd is every bit as important as the artists on stage. Expect live performances from SexyTadhg and Kean Kavanagh\, support from Minikimono\, and plenty of opportunities for stories to take on a life of their own. \nHosted by Bard of Beavertown Meg Reilly\, Soundtrack Stories flips the script by putting storytellers centre stage as the warm-up act\, setting the tone before the live music begins. \nPart gig\, part crowd storytelling experiment\, these are nights designed to be shared. We’ll bring the Neck Oil. You bring the stories. \n  \nTHURSDAY 25 JUNE\nEgan’s\, Dublin 2 \nFeaturing SexyTadhg + Minikimono \n  \nDoors from 6PM \nStrictly 18+. \nPlease drink responsibly. \nT&Cs\nThis venue has limited capacity and entry is subject to capacity on the night. Duplicate ticket orders may be cancelled. Each ticket will include two complimentary half pints on Beavertown’s Neck Oil Session IPA.
