SUMMARY:Comhghall Casey
DESCRIPTION:Solomon Fine Art is delighted to host an exhibition of new paintings by award-winning artist Comhghall Casey. In this much anticipated solo exhibition\, his first in four years\, Casey presents a new body of masterful studies in oil which observe in detail the extraordinary qualities of ordinary items. \n  \nCasey’s intimate and often nostalgic still-lives celebrate objects from everyday life\, ranging from blocks of cheese to beach toys which are singled out and meticulously observed. His compositions are universally simple\, where the object is placed centrally against a neutral background\, amplifying it’s presence and highlighting the artist’s skill and spectacular attention to detail. \n  \nBorn in 1976 Casey grew up in Omagh\, Co Tyrone before moving to Belfast to study fine art at the University of Ulster. In 2000 he moved to Dublin where he has since been living and working. \n  \nCasey has twice appeared on Sky television’s Portrait Artist of the Year competition. His self-portraits were shortlisted for the esteemed BP Portrait Awards in the UK in 2002\, 2013 and 2015 and subsequently hung in the National Portrait Gallery\, London\, the National Scottish Portrait Gallery\, Edinburgh and the Ulster Museum\, Belfast. His portraits have also been shortlisted for the Zurich (formerly Hennessy) Portrait Awards at the National Gallery of Ireland in 2014\, 2017\, 2019\, 2020 & 2023. Casey has exhibited regularly in the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition in London and has received numerous awards at the RHA and RUA Annual Exhibitions including the prestigious Hennessey Craig Scholarship. In 2015 An Post issued an edition of stamps featuring Casey’s toy paintings. In 2017 he was elected an Associate Member of the Royal Ulster Academy. \n  \nCasey’s work features in many notable collections including the National Self Portrait Collection\, The Ulster Museum\, The Arts Council of Northern Ireland and The Office of Public Works.

SUMMARY:Common Ground @ EPIC
DESCRIPTION:Common Ground: Ireland and the EU is a new multimedia exhibition exploring how Ireland’s membership of the European Union has shaped the country socially\, culturally and economically over the past few decades. The exhibition also looks at the impact Ireland has had across Europe\, telling stories of migration\, opportunity\, equality\, education and cultural exchange through immersive displays and personal stories. \n  \n\n\nIreland joined the European Economic Community (EEC) – as the EU was then known – on January 1\, 1973\, after a referendum endorsed by 83% of voters. It was then among the poorest and most underdeveloped countries in western Europe\, with a population just over half of its current size. \nIreland’s accession proved to be the most consequential economic milestone in the half century since Irish independence\, but it also set in motion far-reaching social and cultural change. EU legislation has driven improvements in workers’ rights\, for example\, and set binding targets for climate action. Irish people have studied and built new lives across Europe\, while many Europeans have since made their homes here in Ireland. \nAs Ireland assumes the EU presidency in 2026\, this new multimedia exhibition explores how a small island nation has extended its influence across Europe\, and how Europe\, in turn\, has profoundly shaped modern Ireland. \nFeatured Stories:\nEqual Pay \nStudying Abroad \nAn Ghaeilge \nEntry to this exhibition is included in general admission tickets.

The band is currently composed of two of its founding members\, lead vocalist Kurt Brecht and guitarist Spike Cassidy\, as well as bassist Greg Orr and drummer Danny Walker. \nD.R.I. never gained a mainstream audience\, but the integration of their hardcore punk roots with thrash metal influences was a stylistic catalyst for their contemporaries – most notably Suicidal Tendencies\, Corrosion of Conformity\, Stormtroopers of Death\, the Cro-Mags\, Nuclear Assault\, Adrenalin O.D.\, and Cryptic Slaughter – alongside whom they are considered to be one of the major pioneers of what would later be called “crossover thrash”. These bands had a heavy influence on modern thrash metal.

SUMMARY:Entering Emptiness
DESCRIPTION:Buddhism talks about śūnyatā – variously translated as emptiness\, fullness\, beauty\, even ‘the ground of perfection’. \nHow do we relate to and explore this exciting and mysterious expression of the true nature of things – this vision of a developing a consciousness that transcends all limitations? \n\n\n\n\n\n\nFirstly\, we develop a steady\, empathetic\, dynamic mind; then we turn that flexible mind towards a direct confrontation with reality. \nOnly when both of these faculties are in play can we enter the unbounded world of the truly real; only then can we fathom the mystery of the void. \nOn this day retreat\, Vajrashura will be exploring what is at the heart of the Dharma\, and how we can live with the vision of śūnyatā – emptiness\, fullness\, richness\, insight. \nIt goes far beyond managing the stresses of life\, improving concentration\, and even beyond being happier or more kind. \nCome along on this day retreat exploring the profound depths of the Dharma\, led by Vajrashura. \n  \n\nWhat the day offers:\n\nA deeper understanding of Buddhist teachings on emptiness or śūnyatā.\nConnection with meaning in your life.\nAn opportunity to engage with the great mysteries of reality.\nA chance to practice with others in a supportive environment.

SUMMARY:Curator’s Tour of ‘Come Fly with Me’
DESCRIPTION:Join curator Dr Linda King for a tour and discussion of the exhibition ‘Come Fly with Me: Aviation\, tourism and Irish design’. \n‘Come Fly with Me’ looks at the developing design landscape in Ireland during the 1940s\, 50s\, and 60s through the lens of aviation and tourism-related graphic design. With the arrival of a number of skilled Dutch graphic designers in Ireland in the mid-twentieth century\, depictions of Ireland and Irishness were forever changed. The central role of Aer Lingus\, Dublin Airport\, and other associated groups in the development of Irish graphic design is examined\, showing how our desire to reach the skies brought design to new heights. \nSupported by the Department of Culture\, Communications and Sport through the After Hours at the Museum Scheme. \nBooking essential. \nNote: This tour will be conducted in the temporary exhibition space on the Mezzanine level\, which is regrettably not accessible to wheelchair users.

SUMMARY:D.K. Harrell
DESCRIPTION:Guitarist\, vocalist and songwriter D.K. Harrell\, one of the most formidable young stars of the current blues resurgence\, sounds like no one else on the scene today. With his stinging\, single-note string bending\, deep soul vocals\, and attention-grabbing original songs\, the 27-year-old Harrell\, a major draw at blues festivals around the world–is already in a league of his own. \nD.K. Harrell was born D’Kieran Harrell in Ruston\, Louisiana in 1998. He first heard B.B. King at age two and responded by singing along. He sang in his church choir as a boy while continuing to be drawn to the blues. Films like The Blues Brothers\, Cadillac Records and Ray made him eager to sing and play. He received his first guitar at 12\, and by 16 was writing his own songs. Initially inspired by B.B. King\, the youthful Harrell spent hours studying every video of King he could find\, learning not just King’s licks but ultimately his tone\, his finesse\, his stage craft\, and his band leadership skills. Harrell’s first paying gig was as an invited guest to the B.B. King Symposium in Indianola\, Mississippi–where he played “The Thrill Is Gone” on King’s iconic guitar\, Lucille–backed by members of King’s touring band. \nIn 2022 Harrell won the B.B. King Of The Blues Award for Preserving Traditional Blues Heritage from the Jus’ Blues Music Foundation. In addition to B.B. King\, Harrell fell under the spell of blues masters including Albert King\, Freddie King\, Elmore James\, Muddy Waters and others\, and made their styles part of his musical vocabulary. His debut album\, ‘The Right Man’\, was released on the Little Village label in 2023 to rave reviews and wildly excited fans. \nNow\, with his Alligator Records debut album\, ‘Talkin’ Heavy’\, D.K. Harrell cements his place among the leading voices of the new generation of blues players. This Blues Music Award-winning guitarist with a soul man’s voice and a well-earned reputation as a mesmerizing live performer delivers fresh\, emotion-packed blues informed by the tradition he loves and played with the foot-pounding fervor of a revival tent preacher.

SUMMARY:James Joyce Centre Walking Tours
DESCRIPTION:Guides from the James Joyce Centre take you through Dublin\, exploring the history of the city and the various locations described by Ireland’s greatest writer\, James Joyce.\n\nThough Joyce lived most of his life outside of Ireland\, Dublin would provide the backdrop for virtually all of his work. On a stroll around the inner city\, our guide will explain the real-life inspiration behind some of Joyce’s most celebrated writing\, demonstrating just how central the streetscape of the ‘Hibernian metropolis’ was to the author’s life and art. The tour visits such stops as Belvedere College\, the Gresham Hotel\, the James Joyce Statue\, Davy Byrnes\, and the National Library.\n\nThis is an excellent and fun introduction to Joyce in a bustling part of the city.\n\nThe James Joyce Centre offers two tours: Introducing Joyce’s Dublin and Footsteps of Leopold Bloom.\n\nEvery Thursday\, Friday & Saturday at 11 am. Duration 2 hours.\n\nAdmission to the James Joyce Centre is included. \nThe James Joyce Centre is supported by the Department of Culture\, Communications and Sport.

SUMMARY:COLAPALOOZA
DESCRIPTION:Mike got spiked\, Cousin It and The “Friends” Ensemble play quality music to raise money for our friend Colin. \n\n\n\n\nThe Grand Social\, Dublin | Friday\, July 24\, 2026 \nDoors 7:00 PM | Tickets €20 \nLife has a cruel way of picking the wrong targets. Recently\, our dear friend Colin Howell was diagnosed with ALS. \nFor those who know him\, Colin is a “giant” in every sense—not just in stature\, but in spirit\, humour\, and a level of kindness that is frankly over-the-top. He’s the man who always has your back and the person who makes every room brighter. Now\, he is facing the fight of his life. Tasks we all take for granted—a trip to the shops or a morning shower—are becoming increasingly difficult. \nTo understand why we’re doing this\, you have to go back to Carrickmacross in the early 90s. While the rest of us were struggling to tune our guitars\, Idle Mind (led by the indefatigable Howell brothers\, Colin and Gary) was busy blowing the doors off local pubs. Watching them rip through Helmet and Therapy? covers was a religious experience. \nLet’s be honest: without the influence and unending encouragement of the Howell brothers\, there would be no Cousin It\, and by extension\, no Mike Got Spiked. Whether the world would have been a quieter\, more peaceful place without our collective noise is a debate for another day—but the fact remains: Colin is the reason we play. \nMusic brought us together and paved the way for lifelong friendships. Now it’s the only way we know how to fight back. With the blessing of the Howell family\, we are staging a massive night of music to raise the funds Colin needs for the “new normal” ahead. The lineup features: \nMike Got Spiked (Full Set) \nCousin It (Full Set) \nThe “Friends” Ensemble (A special set of covers and guest appearances) \nWhether you crashed at his home in Carrick\, shared a laugh in Dublin\, or had an adventure together in Thailand\, Germany\, or the States—we need you. Tickets priced at €20 are on sale now. \nEvery penny goes directly to Colin’s care. If you can’t make it\, buy a ticket anyway. If you can make it\, bring someone who hasn’t had the pleasure of meeting Colin yet. The man himself plans to be there to enjoy the night with us all. Let’s show this disease that while it may be “incurable\,” it’s got nothing on the community Colin Howell helped to build. \nSee you in Dublin this July. \n— Mike Got Spiked\, Cousin It\, & Friends
