SUMMARY:James Joyce Centre Walking Tours
DESCRIPTION:Guides from the James Joyce Centre take you through Dublin\, exploring the history of the city and the various locations described by Ireland’s greatest writer\, James Joyce.\n\nThough Joyce lived most of his life outside of Ireland\, Dublin would provide the backdrop for virtually all of his work. On a stroll around the inner city\, our guide will explain the real-life inspiration behind some of Joyce’s most celebrated writing\, demonstrating just how central the streetscape of the ‘Hibernian metropolis’ was to the author’s life and art. The tour visits such stops as Belvedere College\, the Gresham Hotel\, the James Joyce Statue\, Davy Byrnes\, and the National Library.\n\nThis is an excellent and fun introduction to Joyce in a bustling part of the city.\n\nThe James Joyce Centre offers two tours: Introducing Joyce’s Dublin and Footsteps of Leopold Bloom.\n\nEvery Thursday\, Friday & Saturday at 11 am. Duration 2 hours.\n\nAdmission to the James Joyce Centre is included. \nThe James Joyce Centre is supported by the Department of Culture\, Communications and Sport.

SUMMARY:Nikki Glaser: The Stunning Tour
DESCRIPTION:On January 5\, 2025\, Glaser made history as the first woman to host the Golden Globe® Awards solo. She received unanimous praise from audiences worldwide and rave reviews from critics hailing her memorable performance as “victorious.” She is set to return as host of the 83rd Golden Globe® Awards on January 11\, 2026. \n\n\nStrictly Over 16’s Only \nFor nearly two decades at sold-out tours\, and as the host of three hit podcasts\, Emmy®\, Grammy® and Golden Globe®-nominated Nikki Glaser has honed her shockingly honest\, no-holds barred style\, solidifying herself as one of the funniest voices in comedy today. On January 5\, 2025\, Glaser made history as the first woman to host the Golden Globe® Awards solo. She received unanimous praise from audiences worldwide and rave reviews from critics hailing her memorable performance as “victorious.” She is set to return as host of the 83rd Golden Globe® Awards on January 11\, 2026. This October\, in front of a sold-out crowd at the Fabulous Fox Theatre in her hometown of St. Louis\, Missouri\, Nikki taped her newest hour-long comedy special for Hulu\, set to premiere in 2026. A few weeks later on November 8 she made her SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE hosting debut with musical guest Sombr. \n2024 was a career redefining year for Glaser\, culminating with being named “Comedian of the Year” by The New York Times and one of the TIME100: The Most Influential People of 2025. In film\, Nikki has a slate of highly anticipated projects on the horizon. Next\, she will star\, alongside Kim Kardashian\, in Eva Longoria’s Netflix comedy THE FIFTH WHEEL written by Paula Pell and Janine Brito. She will also co-write\, produce and star in an original comedy inspired by the classic game MASH for Paramount Pictures. This SLIDING DOORS-style comedy follows a woman whose childhood MASH game magically becomes reality\, and she discovers that the perfect life isn’t the one she imagined. Additionally\, she will star in\, co-write and produce a new romantic comedy for Universal Pictures with Judd Apatow producing. \nFollowing the success of her Critics Choice Award-nominated HBO standup special\, GOOD CLEAN FILTH in 2022\, Glaser’s highly anticipated second HBO comedy special\, SOMEDAY YOU’LL DIE premiered in May 2024 to a record-breaking audience. It set the record for both the best premiere night for an HBO comedy special in more than two years and for the #1 largest streaming audience for a Comedy Special in HBO Max/Max history. Glaser was nominated for an Emmy® Award for “Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded)\,” a Grammy® Award for “Best Comedy Album\,” a Golden Globe® Award for “Best Performance in a Stand-Up Comedy on Television\,” a Critics Choice Award for “Best Comedy Special” and a WGA Award for “Comedy/Variety Special\,” which she won. Glaser also wrote and performed “Someday You’ll Die” the special’s theme song that is available on all streaming platforms. The single was recorded in Glaser’s hometown of St. Louis with producers Dan Monahan and Tim Convy. Released by Bailey Blues in partnership with Redbird Records\, the track shows a different side of Glaser\, but fans of her comedy will recognize her trademark wit and authenticity throughout the lyrics. \nGlaser was also the undeniable standout on Netflix’s Emmy®-nominated THE GREATEST ROAST OF ALL TIME: TOM BRADY which earned her viral attention and reinstated her title as “the best roaster on the planet” according to Indiewire. The roast aired live and unedited on Netflix from the Kia Forum in Los Angeles on May 5\, 2024. Glaser can currently be seen on her ALIVE AND UNWELL tour across the US\, Canada and Australia through October 2025\, after wrapping her global THE GOOD GIRL tour in 2024. \nFrom March 2021 to March 2025\, Glaser hosted THE NIKKI GLASER PODCAST for iHeartMedia and Will Ferrell’s Big Money Players Network\, where she provided a fun and brutally honest look into pop-culture and her personal life in weekly episodes.  THE NIKKI GLASER PODCAST was nominated for “Best Comedy” by the 2025 iHeart Podcast Awards. \nNikki hosts and executive produces LOVERS AND LIARS (formerly FGIRL ISLAND)\, which premiered on the CW on April 11\, 2024. LOVERS AND LIARS is the female spinoff of the hit HBO Max reality dating series FBOY ISLAND\, which Nikki hosted and executive produced for three seasons. The Washington Post hailed FBOY ISLAND as “deliciously twisty” and TIME called it a “compelling and clever masterpiece” with “smart execution” noting that\, “An advisor to the women and a gentle antagonist to the FBoys\, Glaser\, a comedian\, brings just the right level of self-aware humor.” Season one of FBOY ISLAND had the biggest premiere weekend for an HBO Max Original reality series since the platform’s launch. \nNikki took her love of reality TV to the next level by starring in\, and executive producing\, the E! half-hour reality sitcom WELCOME HOME NIKKI GLASER? Uprooted from her fast-paced Hollywood lifestyle\, Nikki returns to her hometown of St. Louis where she embarks on a hilarious and often uncomfortable journey of self-discovery. Unfiltered\, relatable\, and unapologetically herself\, Nikki navigates friends\, family\, and romance as a homegrown local celebrity. Previously\, Nikki flexed her over-sharing muscle as the host of Comedy Central’s first live daily morning show\, YOU UP WITH NIKKI GLASER for SiriusXM\, which ran from February 2018 to October 2020. Nikki’s most recent Netflix comedy special\, BANGIN’\, was released in October 2019. BANGIN’ was the most watched special on Netflix when it premiered. Nikki hosted\, co-created and executive produced the critically acclaimed and daring comedic show\, NOT SAFE WITH NIKKI GLASER\, for Comedy Central and NIKKI & SARA LIVE for MTV. \nNikki was a standout on three Comedy Central Roasts\, including those of Bruce Willis and Rob Lowe\, which led to her guest-hosting JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE! and hosting the inaugural edition of the 2021 MTV MOVIE & TV AWARDS: UNSCRIPTED\, which earned her stellar reviews.  She also had memorable film and television roles in Judd Apatow’s TRAINWRECK\, NBC’s AP BIO and INSIDE AMY SCHUMER\, amongst others. In November 2022 Nikki was a triumph coming in third place on the ninth season of the hit FOX series THE MASKED SINGER. \nNikki has multiple stand-up specials and late-night tv appearances in which she jokes about her most humiliating moments as a woman in the modern world. Nikki’s past and current struggles with anorexia\, depression\, and anxiety are fair game in both her stand-up\, and in-depth interviews with THE HOWARD STERN SHOW\, WTF with MARC MARON\, CONAN O ́BRIEN NEEDS A FRIEND and THE JOE ROGAN EXPERIENCE. She has become a complete open book on mic for the laughs and as the empowering voice for women that she yearned for as a confused adolescent.

SUMMARY:Baliza
DESCRIPTION:Baliza is a music project born from the creative union of Gon Massey from Barcelona and Anxo Silveira from Galicia. The duo met while performing Spanish music on the streets of Dublin\, Ireland back in 2023. Their shared passion for music and their cultural background quickly evolved into a project that has captivated the Spanish community in Ireland. \nWith a unique sound that blends heartfelt storytelling with an unmistakable energy\, the duo is ready to explore new territories. Baliza isn’t just a band—it’s an experience. Their performances\, or better known as “Balizadas”\, are as much about connection and energy as they are about music. \n“The duo managed to gather between 500 and 600 people on the streets of Dublin. “They must have represented 40% of the Spanish population living in the city\,” said the band’s drummer.” – La Opinión A Coruña \n“When you go abroad\, you appreciate everything that reminds you of your country. Even if you are far away\, it is nice to feel that you can share things that you cannot with people from the country.” – Huffpost

SUMMARY:Foggy Notions presents Nerves
DESCRIPTION:Nerves return with their first new music of 2026 in the form of “N26”\, a sharp\, anxious blast that captures the band at their most immediate and confrontational. \nOriginally formed in County Mayo and now based in Dublin\, Nerves have steadily built a reputation as one of Ireland’s most uncompromising live acts. Their shows feel less like performances and more like pressure points\, all volume\, tension and release\, earning them tours alongside some of the buzziest new names in the circuit\, Maruja and Gurriers\, as well as shows with noise-rock royalty\, The Jesus Lizard. That word of mouth has been matched by growing critical support from Kerrang!\, The Line of Best Fit\, CLASH\, Cvlt Nation\, Louder Than War\, Hot Press\, Rough Trade\, Metal Sucks and vairous playback across BBC Radio 6. \nTheir 2025 EP Iarmhaireacht marked a turning point. A record rooted in atmosphere and narrative as much as abrasion\, it traced a line between rural memory and present day unease\, pairing archival textures with tightly wound\, industrial-leaning arrangements. It introduced a broader emotional range to the band’s sound without sacrificing any of its force\, and positioned \nNerves as something more expansive than a noise rock outlier. \n“N26” feels like a direct continuation of that trajectory\, but with the dial pushed further into the red. Produced once again by Daniel Fox of Gilla Band\, the track condenses their approach into three relentless minutes. There are traces of techno in its pulse\, but it lands with the blunt impact of noise rock\, drawing a line between the mechanical and the visceral. \nLyrically\, the song confronts the slow erosion of rural Irish towns\, where opportunity thins out and younger generations are left in suspension. It is a theme that ran beneath Iarmhaireacht\, but here it is brought into sharper focus\, less abstract\, more accusatory. The result is a track that feels both personal and systemic\, urgent without losing its sense of place. \nWith more new music expected across 2026\, “N26” arrives as a clear opening statement. On stage\, that momentum is already underway\, including a headline appearance at the tenth anniversary of Supersonic Festival\, signalling a year that looks set to push the band further beyond the margins they first emerged from.

SUMMARY:CHRIS BRAIN
DESCRIPTION:Chris Brain is a Yorkshire-based folk singer-songwriter whose work sits firmly in the British pastoral tradition\, shaped by close attention to place\, memory and emotional nuance. His fourth album\, Red Sun Rising (2026)\, is a quietly powerful collection of songs centred on yearning\, restlessness and the desire for change \nRooted in acoustic textures and intimate storytelling\, Red Sun Rising feels like a record made in motion: landscapes shifting\, seasons turning\, inner lives gently unsettled. Brain’s songwriting balances melody and restraint. \nA familiar voice on BBC Radio 6 Music and the BBC Radio 2 Folk Show\, Chris Brain has toured extensively across the UK and internationally\, including a seven-date sold-out tour of Japan. In 2026\, he returns with a UK & Ireland tour to accompany the release of Red Sun Rising. \n“There are shades of the master Ralph McTell here and I can think of no greater compliment than that\, I love It” – Mark Radcliffe\, BBC 2 Folk Show

SUMMARY:Foggy Notions Presents the Kitty Craft
DESCRIPTION:Kitty Craft is Pamela Valfer. \nDebuting in 1994 with the S/T cassette release on the Australian\,Toytown label\, and IT’S STUPID EP 7″ in 1995\, Pam’s sound was originally a low-tech affair. 1997’s I GOT RULEZ EP 7” expanded her sound with keys & sampler\, leading to 1998 release of BEATS & BREAKS ROM THE FLOWER PATCH. In 2000\, her 2nd full-length album\, CATSKILLS. Both albums had Japanese tours and Japanese CD releases. \nAround 2003/2004 after the completion of her 3rd Album… Pam dropped the mic\, hung up her headphones\, and put kitty craft into hibernation. The album was put down\, filed away\, and no plans to be heard. Pam then focused on her visual and multimedia art\, and career as an art professor. \nIn 2019\, kitty craft woke from hibernation and quietly without fanfare\, released “Beats and Breaks from the Flower Patch” and “Catskills” on all\nstreaming & digital platforms. Followed soon after by “Lost Tapes”\, a gem of an album\, comprised exclusively of the previously unreleased\nsongs recorded as a full album in 2003. \nIn some kind of pandemic zeitgeist\, along with stuff like Lofi Girl/ChilledCow\, a 90’s aesthetic resurgence\, and the popularity of new and old vinyl records – kitty craft has been adopted by a whole new group of digital natives. Amazing and unexpected. \nValentine’s Day 2022 brought us kitty craft’s first full-length LP vinyl record… MEW (1994-2004)\, an anthology album with tracks spanning all\nher eras… MEW\, shows an artist with a clear vision from the start. \nSince then – the Kitty Craft discography has been re-issued in expanded/deluxe CD and vinyl editions. And some cassettes too! \nIn November of 2024\, Los Angeles – Pam played her first show in 20+ years to an incredible response. Now 2025 and touring in earnest\, Kitty\nCraft’s new young fans have created a wonderful and welcoming scene. You should come say hi.

SUMMARY:Imelda May – Raised on Songs & Stories
DESCRIPTION:After the sell-out success of her current tour\, Raised on Songs & Stories\, globally revered Irish artist Imelda May has announced additional summer dates. She returns to Dublin’s Vicar Street on June 9th and 10th. \nThis unique series of intimate evenings will feature new stripped back versions of her wide discography and favourite songs\, integrated with her famed poetry & storytelling. \nImelda says: “I’m coming to you soon! 18 nights of an Irish tour. It’ll be an evening of songs\, poems\, stories\, joy and beauty. This idea evolved naturally over the last couple of years. You see\, when I write\, produce and release an album I get so excited to perform the songs live that I fizz up and plan and rehearse gigs with such enthusiasm that I’m like a little thrilled whirlwind but too often I leave room for little else. I work out which songs will flow best into another to create the vibe desired that I sometimes don’t leave much space for the unknown which is where a different magic lies. This space is the place where I exist and love most\, it’s where I write and create. So it feels right to stay there a while. To have a gig where someone might ask for a song I haven’t visited in a while and I think ‘yeah let’s give it a go’\, or where I can tell you the stories behind the songs and how I ended up working with some of the people I’ve worked with so far. Not a ‘show’ this will be a shared night of what music\, art\, connection and creativity means to me\, with you.”

SUMMARY:Ancient Manuscripts and the Psychology of Reading
DESCRIPTION:Dr Christoph Scheepers\, Senior Lecturer in Psychology\, University of Glasgow \nResearch in the psychology of reading has traditionally centred on the cognitive processes involved in text comprehension. This includes exploring questions such as: “How do readers recognize words?”\, “How do they integrate information at the word\, sentence\, and discourse levels to construct a coherent interpretation of the text?”\, or “How do they resolve ambiguities at these various levels?”. \nAncient manuscripts introduce an additional aesthetic dimension to these inquiries—an area that so far has received relatively little attention in the psychology of reading. These manuscripts are particularly rich in paratextual features\, such as marginalia\, cross-referencing systems\, and artworks\, which supplement the main text. These elements have the potential to convey knowledge and understanding that extend beyond the content of the primary text itself. \nExamining how this process occurs requires a comprehensive approach that combines methodologies from the psychology of reading—particularly eye-tracking (to identify where readers focus their attention)—with survey and qualitative data. This integrated approach aims to assess not only the reading process\, but also the aesthetic and emotional responses to manuscript elements and how they affect interpretation in different readers. \nIn this lecture\, I will discuss key findings from applying this method to ancient manuscripts as part of the Paratexts Seeking Understanding project\, with a particular emphasis on the role of aesthetics\, in shaping readers’ interpretations of texts. \nFREE Talk:  No booking required for onsite talk\, please register for online viewing via Zoom HERE. \nAbout the Speaker:\nDr Christoph Scheepers is a Senior Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Glasgow and is the Scientific Director of the Templeton project Paratext Seeking Understanding. He obtained his Master’s degree at the University of Bochum (1991) and his PhD at the University of Freiburg (1997). He held an Assistant Professorship in Computational Linguistics at Saarbruecken University (2000–2003) and Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Dundee (2003-2005)\, before moving to Glasgow. Dr Scheepers’s scientific background is in general cognitive science\, with a particular focus on psycholinguistics. He is an expert in eye-tracking research and statistical methods. He has held various research grants funded by ESRC\, and his Google Scholar citation index confirms over 18\,000 citations of his work so far.

SUMMARY:James Joyce Centre Walking Tours

SUMMARY:Bloomsday Festival
DESCRIPTION:Bloomsday celebrates Thursday 16 June 1904\, the day depicted in James Joyce’s novel Ulysses. The day is named after Leopold Bloom\, the central character in Ulysses. The novel follows the life and thoughts of Leopold Bloom and a host of other characters – real and fictional – from 8am on 16 June 1904 through to the early hours of the following morning. \nCelebrations often include dressing up like characters from the book and in clothes that would have been the style of the era. One of the hallmark fancy dress items of Bloomsday is the straw boater hat. Celebrations come in many different forms like readings\, performances and visiting the places and establishments referenced in the book.
