SUMMARY:After the Image: Collage Workshop | Dublin By Dusk
DESCRIPTION:In an age of infinite scrolling and endless image production\, what happens when we stop consuming images and begin entering into conversation with them? \nResponding to Afterimage: Photography in the Digital Age\, this workshop explores analogue collage as a practice of slow looking\, personal reflection and creative inquiry. \nWorking with found photographs\, participants will cut\, rearrange and recontextualise existing images. Rather than beginning with a fixed idea\, you will be encouraged to follow your instincts and discover meaning through the process of selecting\, placing and layering imagery. As unexpected themes\, memories and associations begin to emerge\, collage invites a different question: not simply “What do I want to make?” but “What is trying to reveal itself?” \nWorking by hand offers a way to interrupt the speed at which we usually encounter images. The tactile process of cutting and composing creates space to notice the photographs before us\, as well as our own patterns\, instincts and ways of seeing. \nThrough a series of guided prompts\, participants will explore symbolism\, composition and visual storytelling while creating an original collage to take home. \nThe workshop will consider collage as both an artistic practice and a method of inquiry: a way of thinking with images and uncovering meaning through making. \nNo previous artistic experience is necessary. All materials will be provided. Participants are also welcome to bring copies of personal photographs or printed imagery to incorporate into their collage.

Thus\, delivering a continuous\, collaborative flow of original work. \nPlease note: This is a very limited ticketed event. \nSteve O’Toole\nA street stalking creative\, poet\, storyteller\, artist\, and the creative force behind The Write Stuff. Not one to sit on the fence\, Steve firmly wears both his heart & mind on his sleeve\, delivering forceful versed commentary by the page full. Originally performing in the mid 90’s as support to Irish writer ‘Pat Ingoldsby’. It was early 2023\, when Steve returned after a far too long hiatus. Since then\, he has gone on to read & perform at The International Literary Festival\, The Dublin Arts & Human Rights Festival\, The Bram Stoker Festival\, Culture Nights\, Craicly Stories\, and curate & host The Write Stuff gatherings at Chapters Bookstore\, and other Dublin city venues. \nLuke Clerkin\nAn award-winning singer songwriter from Tallaght whose music has taken him from major festivals like Electric Picnic\, Body & Soul\, and Stendhal to headline shows at iconic Irish venues including Whelan’s and The Workman’s Club. His music has been featured by outlets including Hot Press and RTÉ\, with airplay across Ireland and the UK. Following the critically acclaimed release of his debut album Orpheus in 2025\, Luke performed sold out shows in Dublin and Germany\, appeared at Electric Picnic and Regard Belfast\, and closed the year sharing the stage with Bono\, Glen Hansard and Imelda May at the famous Christmas Eve Busk. He is currently working on new material and exciting collaborations set for release throughout the second half of 2026. \nDanila\nAn Italian singer/songwriter based in Dublin. She started off as a singer\, then added the ukulele to put her own spin on covers. Now\, she writes songs about self-love\, self-acceptance\, all in a soft and honest package. \nSean Corrigan\nA sporty lad first and foremost\, who in recent years sought an alternative form of self-expression and found it through poetry and fashion. His poetry is written with the aim of creating and maintaining a rhythm more so than through as an outlet of impressive vocabulary\, as one can tell from this bio! A far cry from abstract poetry; will hit every nail on the head and use every cliche to create an image. Has spoken at events such as ‘Slip of the Tongue\,’ ‘Seanchoice\,’ ‘Sunflower Sessions\,’ and ‘Smithfield Creatives.’ \nThe James Joyce Centre is supported by the Department of Culture\, Communications\, and Sport.

SUMMARY:Artist Talk – John O’Flynn | Dublin By Dusk

During the evening\, O’Flynn will discuss the ideas\, inspirations and creative process behind his work\, offering insight into a practice that blends reality\, memory and imagination. \nThe semi-abstract paintings in Painting Air are inspired by moments from the artist’s everyday life that evoke peace\, excitement\, hope and “the ineffable”. His paintings invite viewers to reflect on the unseen qualities that shape our perception of the world. \nOriginally from Galway and now based in Dublin\, John O’Flynn’s works explore themes of landscape\, light\, introspection and the rhythms of everyday life. His work is held in private collections across Europe\, North America\, Asia and Australia. \nThis event forms part of ‘Dublin by Dusk’\, a new citywide initiative celebrating arts\, culture\, hospitality and shopping on the last Thursday of each month. \n\n  \nPLEASE NOTE: Admission is FREE but booking is essential\, to book your spot please e-mail info@sofinearteditions.com

SUMMARY:James Joyce Centre Walking Tours
DESCRIPTION:Guides from the James Joyce Centre take you through Dublin\, exploring the history of the city and the various locations described by Ireland’s greatest writer\, James Joyce.\n\nThough Joyce lived most of his life outside of Ireland\, Dublin would provide the backdrop for virtually all of his work. On a stroll around the inner city\, our guide will explain the real-life inspiration behind some of Joyce’s most celebrated writing\, demonstrating just how central the streetscape of the ‘Hibernian metropolis’ was to the author’s life and art. The tour visits such stops as Belvedere College\, the Gresham Hotel\, the James Joyce Statue\, Davy Byrnes\, and the National Library.\n\nThis is an excellent and fun introduction to Joyce in a bustling part of the city.\n\nThe James Joyce Centre offers two tours: Introducing Joyce’s Dublin and Footsteps of Leopold Bloom.\n\nEvery Thursday\, Friday & Saturday at 11 am. Duration 2 hours.\n\nAdmission to the James Joyce Centre is included. \nThe James Joyce Centre is supported by the Department of Culture\, Communications and Sport.

SUMMARY:GLU
DESCRIPTION:GLU Esoteric melodies collide with moody beats and a dynamic flow in GLU; the solo project from Michael Shuman (Queens Of The Stone Age\, Mini Mansions). With no major concentration of genre aside from melding them\, Shuman unravels ribbons of rhyme and musicianship that are introspective and engaging. The EP entitled MY DEMONS released early 2023. “For me\, the project was about being on my own terms; having my own momentum\,” explains Shuman. “Musically\, I wanted to do something that was challenging and something that scared me. I usually start out writing riffs but for GLU I had to write a lot of lyrics. Sitting on a computer\, starting with a beat and using synthesizers and keyboards opened up so many new possibilities. This is something that is different because I do come from punk rock\, but I’m doing this… so it’s not going to sound like your typical DJ or Hip-Hop producer. I want it to feel fresh\, and that’s the most exciting thing for me.” \nThe back and forth of Shuman’s soft\, ariose soundscapes lead way to catchy lyrics touching on subjects of struggle\, loss\, addiction\, and trauma\, hence; MY DEMONS. Emotional explosions emerge in a realm of calm hip hop with upbeat\, poppy moments. “A lot of this is me speaking as an adult now\, but it’s talking about me as a child. I’m at an age where I don’t care as much about masking things\, lyrically.” With guest vocalist Sarah Barthel (vocalist of Phantogram) lending a soothing voice to the self-titled intro\, the well rounded tone of the EP lays out a curious\, sonic fantasy. “I like the idea of different voices coming in and Sarah is a real singer\,” states Shuman. “She can do anything and it sounds great. She was really helpful in elevating these songs.” Mixed by Adam Thane and mastered by Dale Becker. \nThe first single of 2025 “BOOGIE MAN”\, is an infectious genre bending power track that chronologies the feeling of losing yourself in the moment\, and not having any outside worries or anxieties about who may be watching or what they may think. Akin to artists like Jamiroquai\, Gorillaz\, and Mac Miller. \nGLU has had the chance to play these songs live on tours with Phantogram\, The Blue Stones\, Miles Kane and Blood Red Shoes. “Boogie Man is a dance song about stepping outside yourself\, letting loose\, and not taking yourself too seriously. Life is short…. Who cares about what others think.” says Shuman. \nThe track was selected for a sync placement on the latest instalment of the beloved video game series MLB The Show ‘25 and features alongside artists including Kendrick Lamar\, De La Soul and COIN. \nRiding the momentum into Spring & Summer 2025\, GLU took Boogie Man to clubs and venues across the UK and USA\, selling out release shows in London\, Chicago & Los Angeles. \nHeading into 2026 Shumans team expands\, GLU inks a recording deal with FLG (Skunk Anansie\, Corella\, As It Is) and celebrates this by releasing a cover version of the classic 90’s hit ‘Crush’ by Jennifer Paige. \n‘Looking for the right cover song is an interesting task.’ Says Shuman ‘You are searching for a song\, which inherently is so deeply personal to the person who wrote it\, yet it has to connect with you enough to try and make it your own. Not so much musically\, but lyrically. The music side is the fun part\, where you augment it to a completely different landscape\, giving a totally different perspective to the original. Crush is an amazing pop song written by Jennifer Paige\, but was produced at a time where I don’t think it got its due. That being said it was a huge hit that most of the world knows well. I think that’s the other factor in choosing\, so that when you play live to an audience who may not know your material\, there’s that one song in the set they already are a fan of.’
