SUMMARY:Stella Sings Ella: A Tribute to Ella Fitzgerald
DESCRIPTION:Ella Fitzgerald is probably the most beloved jazz singer of all time\, with hits like Manhattan\, Summertime\, Bewitched and Lady is a Tramp. \nAmassing 13 Grammy Awards and 40 million albums sales over an astounding 60-plus year career\, Ella could effortlessly cross over between sultry ballads\, intricate jazz arrangements and light pop tunes\, and could imitate any instrument of the orchestra. Born in 1917\, Ella worked with all the greats including Ellington\, Basie\, Sinatra\, Gillespie\, Armstrong (or perhaps we should say they worked with her!) and she packed out venues worldwide during her career\, including Dublin’s Adelphi Theatre in 1964 and the Cork Jazz Festival in 1982. Her greatest legacy is probably the Songbook Series\, recorded between 1956 and 1981\, considered a cornerstone of 20th century recorded popular music\, representing some of the finest interpretations of the greater part of the musical canon known as the Great American Songbook.

SUMMARY:James Joyce Centre Walking Tours
DESCRIPTION:Guides from the James Joyce Centre take you through Dublin\, exploring the history of the city and the various locations described by Ireland’s greatest writer\, James Joyce.\n\nThough Joyce lived most of his life outside of Ireland\, Dublin would provide the backdrop for virtually all of his work. On a stroll around the inner city\, our guide will explain the real-life inspiration behind some of Joyce’s most celebrated writing\, demonstrating just how central the streetscape of the ‘Hibernian metropolis’ was to the author’s life and art. The tour visits such stops as Belvedere College\, the Gresham Hotel\, the James Joyce Statue\, Davy Byrnes\, and the National Library.\n\nThis is an excellent and fun introduction to Joyce in a bustling part of the city.\n\nThe James Joyce Centre offers two tours: Introducing Joyce’s Dublin and Footsteps of Leopold Bloom.\n\nEvery Thursday\, Friday & Saturday at 11 am. Duration 2 hours.\n\nAdmission to the James Joyce Centre is included. \nThe James Joyce Centre is supported by the Department of Culture\, Communications and Sport.

SUMMARY:SILK
DESCRIPTION:‘Auralux’ is the highly anticipated debut mini-album from Irish shoegazers\, Silk. Michael Smyth\, songwriter/guitarist of the acclaimed but now defunct band Virgins\, is the sole contributor to the project. Taking on responsibilities for all the songwriting\, performance and recording\, gives the project intense personal meaning for Michael. Michael says\, ‘There is no beauty in perfection\, it feels fake and manufactured to me. I want the record to feel real\, so this is the sound of visceral self-expression.’ 2025 saw the release of three highly successful singles and Irish tours\, including festival appearances at GazeFest supporting Whitelands and Sweet Sweet Noise. Lead single of the album ‘Clementine’ released earlier this year\, which found Silk push into darker and more abrasive territory\, leaning hard into texture and density. ‘Auralux’ covers a wide range of sonic territory over its 6 tracks; celestial and euphoric guitars dove tail with impossibly thick crushing fuzz\, while cascading reverse reverbs melt into one another. Lyrically the mini-album moves between themes of mortality\, memory\, loss\, love and time. Auralux is catharsis via volume and reverb. ‘Auralux’\, is released May 7th by Blowtorch Records (IRE/vinyl) and Shoredive Records (UK/CD).

SUMMARY:Curator's Tour EX/IT: LIFT| Dublin By Dusk
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special Curator’s Tour of our current exhibitions EX/IT: LIFT by artist Abbas Zahedi and The Artist’s Eye: Bushra Mustafa Dunne\, as part of Dublin by Dusk. \nFor his exhibition\, Zahedi presents a newly commissioned body of work that interrogates bureaucratic systems – administrative\, religious\, institutional\, and militaristic. Through a series of sound sculptures\, some of which sound alarms\, whilst others reflect endless rhythms of manual labour or ritual practice; Zahedi explores the capacity of the gallery space to challenge dominant systems through dialogue and collective action. \nThe Artist’s Eye series asks those exhibiting in Gallery 1 to invite an artist of influence to present work in Gallery 2. In this instalment Abbas Zahedi has invited poet Bushra Mustafa Dunne to write and record a new poem. Evoking the Irish mourning tradition of keening\, Dunne’s new poem weaves together personal narratives and reflections on militarism\, memory\, and grief\, to imagine shared histories of sonic rituals and communal grieving.

SUMMARY:Éire to Everywhere: Stories Without Borders with Nicola Pierce
DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to welcome author Nicola Pierce into EPIC for the May edition of Éire to Everywhere\, which takes places on the 28th May. \nNicola will be in conversation with our Head of Exhibitions and Programmes\, Nathan Mannion\, where they will delve into the many women covered in the book and why their stories are so important in a modern context. \nThe talk will conclude with a Q&A session\, inviting the audience to engage with Nicola directly and understand further what drew her to this topic. \nCopies of Great Irish Wives will be available to purchase on the night\, with a book signing to follow. \nAbout the Book\nGreat Irish Wives shines a spotlight on ten wives who were instrumental in their famous husbands’ success: Matilda Tone\, Mary O’Connell\, Constance Wilde\, Charlotte Shaw\, Emily Shackleton\, Annette Carson\, Sinéad de Valera\, Margaret Clarke\, George Yeats and Beatrice Behan. \nThroughout history\, the stories of women’s lives and work have been overshadowed by those of men. Wives\, especially\, disappear\, unacknowledged as patrons and champions of their husband’s work\, as collaborators\, muses\, carers and managers of the family domain. \nThe men in this book are household names\, from Wolfe Tone and Daniel O’Connell to Oscar Wilde and Brendan Behan\, and they all have one thing in common: they married women who enabled them to pursue their dreams\, even if that meant courting death or outrage. Nicola Pierce tells the stories of these truly remarkable women. \nAbout the Author\nOriginally from Tallaght but now living in Drogheda\, Nicola Pierce loves reading and writing about history. Her first novel\, Spirit of the Titanic\, published by The O’Brien Press in 2011\, was reprinted five times within its first twelve months. \nHer second novel\, City of Fate\, about World War II’s Battle of Stalingrad\, was shortlisted for the Warwickshire Year Nine Book Award 2014. In 2015\, The O’Brien Press published Behind the Walls\, about the 1688-9 Siege of Derry. Kings of the Boyne\, released in 2016\, was shortlisted for the 2017 LAI Children’s Book Award. April 2018 saw the publication of her first history book for adults\, Titanic\, True Stories of Her Passengers\, Crew and Legacy. Chasing Ghosts; An Arctic Adventure\, her novel about the doomed John Franklin expedition\, was published in March 2020 and\, the following year\, she released her history of Dublin’s O’Connell Street. \nHer sixth children’s novel\, In Between Worlds\, The Journey of the Famine Girls\, was published in 2023. Her third history book for adults\, Great Irish Wives\, won the An Post Irish History Book of 2025. \nEndorsements\n“I find myself galloping through the story and on to the other chapters to inhale more details of these great Irish wives” – Clodagh Finn\, Great Irish Wives \n“Pierce brings their stories to life\, proving that history isn’t just about famous men sometimes\, the women behind them are the true heroines” – Irish Farmers Journal \n“Fascinating reframing of the historical narrative” – The Irish Times

SUMMARY:KASSI VALAZZA
DESCRIPTION:Kassi Valazza crafts songs that glow softly\, like streetlights in the fog – lush\, lyrical Americana steeped in solitude and self-discovery. Her most recent album\, From Newman Street (May 2025\, Fluff & Gravy / Loose Music)\, unfolds like a millennial companion to Joni Mitchell’s Hejira\, tracing internal and external landscapes with sharp wit and quiet grace. Written between Portland and her home in New Orleans\, and recorded with Matt Thomson at Echo Echo Studios\, the album marks both a homecoming and a departure\, a reflection on change\, restlessness\, and growth. Rooted in the rustic romance of the Southwest and the restless realism of the Pacific Northwest\, Valazza’s music hums with movement and reflection. These meditative\, soul-stirring songs invite listeners into a world where uncertainty becomes its own kind of peace.

SUMMARY:Marcos Valle
DESCRIPTION:“Bossa nova pioneer” Resident Advisor “Rio beach boogie legend” The Vinyl Factory \n“One of the most important and popular performers in the history of Brazilian pop” All Music \nFrom samba & bossa to psychedelic MPB & beach boogie\, Marcos Valle is one the most important composers\, arrangers\, writers and performers in Brazil’s history. There are not many artists in any era in recorded music history that can boast a career as stylistically varied as Marcos’ – let alone the fact he has maintained quality consistent throughout a storied six decade career. The renaissance man of Brazilian pop has worked with Leon Ware\, Sarah Vaughan\, and Chicago; seen his music sampled by Jay Z\, Kanye West\, Childish Gambino\, Madlib\, and Kaytranada; had his songs recorded by the likes of Frank Sinatra\, Bebel Gilberto – even Emma Bunton of The Spice Girls once took on his classic ‘Os Grilos (The Crickets Sing For Anamaria)’. \nOne of the second-wave of early bossa nova composers\, following in the footsteps of João Gilberto and Antonio Carlos Jobim\, Valle rose to prominence in the early 60s following the release of his now world famous bossa nova standard ‘Samba de Verao (Summer Samba)’. Written with his brother and long-standing songwriting partner Paulo-Sergio as a tribute to the joys of life as a Rio surfer\, it’s up there with ‘The Girl From Ipanema’ as one of the most universally recognisable Brazilian songs. \nSeeking reinvention in the 1970s after the bossa nova sensation had died down\, Marcos developed a more refined\, jazzier\, and more psychedelic MPB sound which characterized a string of his finest and most sought after albums: Marcos Valle (1970)\, Garra (1971)\, Vento Sul (1972)\, and Previsao Do Tempo (1974). In the midst of these masterpieces he was writing and recording music for film and television (including Brazilian Sesame Street!): it was through this line of work he met the trio who would go on to be known as Azymuth\, naming themselves after one of Valle’s songs from the soundtrack to O Fabuloso Fittipaldi (1973) \nAs the 70s drew to a close Marcos started a hugely successful partnership with the renowned US producer and singer-songwriter Leon Ware\, together they wrote a string of US soul cult classics like ‘Rocking You Eternally’ and ‘Baby Don’t Stop Me’. Marcos would go on to record his own Brazilianised versions on Vontade De Rever Você (1981). Ware would then join forces once again with Marcos a couple of years later for what is one of his most enduring hits (partly thanks to today’s Youtube & Spotify algorithms!)\, the workout-boogie monster ‘Estrelar’. \nMoving into the 90s\, Valle became somewhat disenfranchised with the Brazilian music market and stepped away to focus again on composing for film & TV. But over in the UK and Europe a newfound cult status was brewing thanks to flourishing music subcultures like acid-jazz\, jazz-dance\, and rare groove\, along with crate- digger culture that unified these inter-connected scenes. After meeting Far Out Recordings’ Joe Davis at London’s Jazz Cafe while on tour in 1995\, the pair hit it off and started what became a near 25 year (and counting) partnership\, beginning with the release of Nova Bossa Nova in 1998. Celebrating his 80th Birthday year\, Marcos Valle returns to Europe in 2023 coincide with a celebratory 20th anniversary reissue of his long out-of -print 2003 modern classic Contrasts\, home to the aptly titled ‘Parabens’\, which translating directly as “Congratulations” is what Brazilins say to wish someone a happy birthday.

As Velour embodies different characters through a series of jaw-dropping lip-syncs spectacles\, she invites you to take part in the cycle of existence\, resistance\, and camp that IS drag. Part performance art\, part history\, part call to action\, Travesty will have you screaming at the top of your lungs\, dancing in the aisles\, and inspired to “change the muthaf*ckin’ world!” \nCelebrated for her influential visuals and her emotional live performances\, Velour is poised to take her art to the next level with Travesty. “Travesty is unlike any show I’ve created\,” Velour says. “It is the purest\, but also the most radical and experimental version of drag I’ve ever put on stage. No apologies or explanations\, just ART! Drag is for everyone\, because our message of freedom\, love\, and authenticity is universal. People have been doing ‘drag’—dressing up\, blurring gender\, and telling stories—since the dawn of time. With Travesty\, I wanted to honor those traditions\, while exploring where we can go next.”  \nThis show follows a string of successes for Velour. Since the release of her best-selling book The Big Reveal\, An Illustrated Manifesto of Drag (Harpers) in 2023 the “RuPaul’s Drag Race”-winner became a host on HBO’s “We’re Here”\, a judge on the world’s first televised Drag King competition\, “King of Drag” (Revry)\, hosted the official Drag Race tour\, “Werq the World” on three continents\, and brought a stage adaptation of her book “The Big Reveal” to such prestigious theaters as The London Palladium\, Folies Bergère\, Steppenwolf\, Berkeley Rep\, La MaMa\, and The Wallis. Her beloved NY-based drag revue “NightGowns” celebrated ten years of sold-out shows this past August and in 2025 alone\, raised over 50k for LGBTQIA+ mutual aid\, immigration\, and Gaza. \nTravesty reunites Velour with past collaborators at the top of their fields. Costuming will be from Emmy Award-winning Diego Montoya Studio as well as Andres Caballero\, Jazzmint Dash\, Pierretta Viktori\, and Gloria Swansong\, Sound design from Tony Award-nominated Palmer Hefferan\, and Scenic/Lighting/Projection design from Cosette “Ettie” Pin. The show and tour are produced by House of Velour\, Velour’s namesake production company. \nPraise for Sasha Velour: \n“One of the world’s finest drag entertainers” — Attitude Magazine \n“…redraws the boundaries of drag and theater”  — San Francisco Chronicle \n“…not only one of the best drag queens of her generation but also one of the definitive voices on the history and art of drag.” — LA Review of Books
