After signing with Secret Road Music Publishing at 17\, he quickly gained traction with early placements like “Up\, Up & Away” in the film Five Feet Apart and later earned a Grammy nomination for co-writing John Legend’s song “Conversations in the Dark.” Peña has since released three EPs\, numerous singles\, and his 2024 debut album Ever-Shifting\, Continual Blossoming\, amassing over a billion Spotify streams to date and selling out tours across the US\, UK\, and Europe. He’s collaborated with artists across various genres\, from working with KYGO and Julia Michels on 2024’s “Louder\,” to joining country-rock singer/songwriter Sam Barber for the duet “Better Than the Floor.” \nPeña’s work radiates a contagious warmth\, and his latest Columbia Records release When I Change My Mind I Don’t Mean It (2025) marks his most ambitious project yet. Following the album’s lead track “Waiting For The Phone Call”\, released last October\, today the band share the equally epic new single “DESIGNED TO LOSE”. The second track on the album is a beautifully meditative yet muscular reflection on the human condition\, hinged on how we can seem doomed to lose in so many of our endeavours – including our capacity to cope with loss. \nTHE TWILIGHT SAD – DESIGNED TO LOSE \n“It had to contain every element of emotion I was feeling\,” says singer/lyricist James Graham of THE TWILIGHT SAD’s deeply resonant sixth album. On their first record in seven years\, Scotland’s post-punk outfit return with a story to share: a cogent story of loss and personal crisis\, rooted in specific experience yet mounted with a palpable emotional power that feels universal. Set to urgent and guitar-rich arrangements from bandmate Andy MacFarlane\, IT’S THE LONG GOODBYE reflects on James’s mother’s illness\, her subsequent death and his own mental health struggles\, exploring profound human vulnerability with tenderness and tempestuous force. \nThe result is the most personal yet relatable album to date from a band whose portraits of bruised humanity have forged close ties with their audience. As James says\, “In the past I’ve used a lot of metaphors within my lyrics. With this\, there’s not as much. The record is heavily influenced by my mental health\, grief and loss\, and the need to be strong in positions where you’re not feeling it. It’s a very human story\, I think – this is just my version of it. I feel that everybody goes through something like this. Everybody loses somebody. Everybody questions life.” \nBack in 2016\, James and Andy returned from the “pinch yourself” high of a tour with The Cure to find that James’s mother had been diagnosed with early onset frontotemporal dementia. Roughly 80 per cent of the record was written as James wrestled with the contrast between the joys in his life – marriage\, parenthood – and the cruelty of his mother’s decline. In November 2023\, another tour with The Cure was brought to a necessary halt as his mental health deteriorated. “And then my mum passed away in the January afterwards\,” says James. \nThe record was developed over seven years\, with the London-based MacFarlane stockpiling musical ideas during lockdown while exchanging words and sounds with Graham. The Cure’s Robert Smith\, by now a longtime close friend of the band\, provided invaluable input on the demos and guested on the record\, supplying extra guitars on ‘WAITING FOR THE PHONE CALL’\, guitars/“Tron keys” on ‘DEAD FLOWERS’ and six-string bass on ‘BACK TO FOURTEEN’. “Then we had to piece together a band\,” says Andy\, with THE TWILIGHT SAD now centred on him and James after former bandmates were drawn away by life commitments. Sometime Arab Strap player David Jeans and Mogwai live team-member Alex Mackay play drums and bass respectively\, while the album was produced by MacFarlane at Willesden’s Battery Studios – a location rich in cherished Cure history\, notably – with additional production from Andy Savours (My Bloody Valentine) and mixing by Chris Coady (Slowdive). \nThe result is a pinnacle for THE TWILIGHT SAD in a career of tremendous integrity and artistry\, and a record that honours the band’s ability to turn lived experience into fully felt music. “To know that I’m saying things that connect with other people\, that’s such a powerful thing\,” says James. “I want to be a relatable person that talks about things that can happen and give an opportunity for people to go\, well\, you’re not alone. I want people to be able to listen to this record and hear that it comes from a place of raw emotion. The album is an opportunity to share my experience and move forward with my life.” \nThe Twilight Sad will be on tour in the UK and Europe in April and May including a performance at the Roundhouse in London. The band also recently announced news of a second Glasgow Barrowland show in early May. This will be followed by a handful of dates performing as special guests to The Cure in June and July.

DESCRIPTION:FIXITY is an avant garde music project formed by Irish multi instrumentalist and producer Dan Walsh in 2015 which moves in the worlds of psychedelic rock\, minimalism\, krautrock and free improvisation\, featuring an ever-growing pool of collaborators. \nIn 2024 Fixity released FIXITY8\, the most recent installment in a decade spanning series of solo-produced albums. Now Walsh and collaborators present a return to ensemble work for the first time since 2019’s ‘No Man Can Tell’ LP\, with a collection of new tunes and sounds expanding Fixity’s sonic territory ranging from expansive punk improv to ecstatic celebrations and minimalist explorations. \nThis project represents a new stage in the growth of Fixity’s music at a greater scale\, reaching across fresh musical worlds with the addition of strings arranged by NY/Cork based arranger Aine Delaney. Half recorded in Studio Sickan\, Malmo in 2022 and half in Cork’s Heavy Meitheal Studios HQ in 2023\, the album features an extended cast of long-time collaborators augmented with String ensemble. \nASSURANCE will be released on Vinyl and Digital in Spring 2026 on MOOTAPES label with Artwork by Stephen Morton.

A bubbling cultural cauldron set to boiling point\, the sound overflows with accordion\, banjo\, bouzouki\, mandolin and perky penny whistle\, where ancient folk tradition meets an indie Gen Z sensibility and laughs\, sings and dances in the face of 21st century darkness. The death of the swaggering good-time band has been greatly exaggerated. \nFrom small-town Falkirk in central Scotland the folk-punk-indie-pop five-piece have big ideas\, with a reputation as one of the best live bands in Britain\, their communal\, sing-along\, delirious anthems igniting mosh-pit madness throughout the UK\, Ireland and beyond. Everybody loves them. \n“The thing about our music is that it transcends all age groups\,” notes vocalist/songwriter/guitarist Daniel Harkins. “You’ve got 14-year-old boys with their mums\, they’re all going mental\, you’ve got old punks\, middle-aged women\, young adults\, old people\, everybody’s digging it\, you know? There’s something for everybody because you’ve got your folky influences\, The Pogues\, with this indie edge and pop sensibilities.” \nBrògeal (pronounced Bro-gale) got here via the old-school\, DIY route. Borne from a friendship on a bus – Daniel and fellow songwriter Aidan Callaghan (vocals\, banjo) met on journeys to Celtic football games – they formed a typically ramshackle school punk band\, Shiva\,who were “shit”\, but the passion remained. Traditional folk fans forever\, loving The Dubliners nand The Pogues\, ideas for a folk band evolved\, soon joined by Sam MacMillan who taught himself to play his grandad’s accordion. When Covid struck in 2020\, more self-taught musicianship filled the void\, learning their folky craft on curious olde instruments\, two metres apart\, in Daniel’s back garden under a leaky Asda gazebo. Emerging from Covid\, two new recruits joined – local studio engineer Euan Mundie (bass) and Luke Mortimer (drums) – and the distinctive Brògeal sound took shape: fearlessly merging traditionally raucous Celtic folk with deft\, harmonious songcraft\, pop nous and the indie noughties energy they grew up on. \n“We never set out with a [musical] plan\,” notes Daniel. “Whatever we bring to the band\, no matter what genre\, it always ends up sounding like a Brògeal song anyway.” \nThey made their first EP for themselves\, ‘Dirt and Daydreams’ (2023) released on their own winningly titled CraicDen label\, followed by an eponymous EP in 2024 on Is Right Records\, leading to a signing with revered independent label Play It Again Sam (PIAS\, home to Nick Cave\, The Hives\, Cameron Winter). For the last 18 months they’ve toured relentlessly\, throughout the UK and Ireland\, gathering ecstatic fans\, have supported Paolo Nutini\, The Mary Wallopers and The Lathums\, found fans in both 6 Music’s Huw Stephen and Line of Duty actor Martin Compston\, been eulogised in Rolling Stone\, the Independent\, Clash\, The New Cue\, So Young and Dork. \n“We’ve always been kept busy and it just kind of got bigger and bigger at a really natural rate\,” says Aidan. “It’s the stuff of dreams. You think\, ‘Oh\, that could never happen’\, and we’re doing it!” \n“Aidan’s being kind of humble there\,” interjects Daniel. “Because we had the belief from the very start. That we’d be massive!” \nTheir debut album\, released this October\, spectacularly fulfils the belief. Tuesday Paper Club showcases their limitless musical range\, with lyrical themes of romance\, heartache\, booze\, local nutters\, nostalgia and loss\, its artwork featuring a paper boy\, Aidan’s wee brother Finn. The title is a withering\, generational quip: Daniel once worked the day shift in Falkirk’s oldest pub\, The Wheatsheaf (established 1779)\, “a total old man’s pub”\, where most days three old fellers took up residency with the newspapers. “They wouldn’t talk to each other until they’d had about five pints\,” says Daniel\, and when talk did start\, alongside the headlines\, there would be disparaging remarks on the apparently “stupid” young. “So I just thought it would be really cheeky to write about them\,” laughs Daniel\, who wrote the lyrics there on a Tuesday. “Just talking about the mundanity of what they were up to while being so judgmental\, you know?” \nThe album’s recording location was also unique. Black Bay Studio sits on the Isle of Lewis in Scotland’s profoundly remote Outer Hebrides\, a residential studio refurbished from a fish processing factory\, overlooking a stunning bay. Here\, the five slept alongside producer Richie Kennedy\, the Irish Producer/Engineer/Mixer based in London (Libertines\, Cardinals\, Last Dinner Party\, Interpol\, Dua Lipa/Kylie\, U2). \n“We want to be the biggest and best band in the world!” he now declares. “But we also want to have a good time doing this. Because\, in theory\, it could be curtains tomorrow.” Brògeal: A proper band\, for everyone\, cheering up the world. The good times\, finally\, are back.
